I had a different way too teach my dog not to jump on people. I learned her the word down by first making her go up on a ledge and then jumping off with the word down. Then she understood the word down and I repeated that a few times when she wanted to go jump on someone and she understood and stopped doing it
@jwtre Жыл бұрын
I just put a knee up or push them off and say “no jumping!”. The jumping stops in 2 days max. You can keep trying this fake way, which doesn’t work, but it stops being funny when 100lbs dogs keep knocking down toddlers because they get treats for jumping and acting excited.

This method is perhaps the longest and least effective way to teach a dog to not jump. If that dog isn't sitting, she won't think twice before jumping again. Use a leash, keep your foot on it so it's not long enough for the dog to jump properly so when they try they'll deliver a self-correction. Reinforce when they stop trying to jump and let them receive that pressure when they do jump.

Please don't use this video as a method. Its impractical, the dog thinks it must jump then sit for the food.

Everyone is an expert. Takes take and conditioning. I agree, break up the motions a bit, but this can work with good timing and firmness. Only big thing I'd note is I wouldn't be doing that without a house lease, you can step on lease and it's self correcting.
@Gluvkgluvk28 күн бұрын
See here you’re teaching her to sit, you have to correct her when she jumps by saying off or leave it and reward when she decides to sit when you correct and say off or leave it. A little different.

Im confused. The dog keeps jumping ? Are you teaching to jump her ? What if you dont have treats in you at all times ? 🤔

The dog gets a treat when he or she sits along with an encouraging "Yes", this is the verbal equivalent of a reinforcing click, the dog gets nothing when jumping up.

This is video gives me a headache… just put a leash on the dog simple fix.. don’t even gotta use “harsh” collars use a regular collar. Because this + only method is trash because then everyone in the family has to follow your positive methods even grandma….and I don’t think she’s gonna be able to dodge the dog…Where as just using a leash on your dog inside will eliminate jumping altogether by never letting the dog jump in the first place. I do recommend using corrections to Reinforce the sit command…. Sit means sit. Not just when the dog thinks he’s getting something.
@Rocky-N-Angel9 ай бұрын
LOL the dog sit you gave the dog a treat and it jumped again. Then you said she jumped but did not make contact, however grandma and any handicap person would have been knocked over. A child could be hurt badly if the dog jumped on them, not everyone can just dodge the dog when she jumps. Then every time you give the dog a treat and hold the bowl in air when the dog knows the treat is there it will jump to get to the treat or food. This means by holding the treat and food up high you are literally asking the dog to jump to where the food or treats are that you are giving to her. However you may be insulting the dogs intelligence, the dog knows the food and treats are in the bowl held high in view. I am so very confused by this.

@chrisking66959 ай бұрын
Just because you don't see a result right away doesn't mean it's ineffective. It takes time for the dog to learn the pattern. It's always easier to pop a pinch or slip leash. But the long term results are not as stable as when you let the dog learn through reinforcement.

@okal24688 ай бұрын
I have an overexcited dog. Trained out her jumping that’s been problems for years in one day when I got interested in dog training obviously not with Zac’s video but by this simple method, CUE a word any word, make it negative though let’s use OFF, then, knee bump them down. I trained everyone in my family it do this simple exercise and anyone who encounters my dog, she stopped within a day with maybe one accidental jump a week. Training your dog consistently is by going through other people, the dog will realize that no human wants this so no human won’t take it.

Because the premise of the challenge is flawed. You cannot contain am aggressive dog with positive reinforcement in one session. But you can with aversive methods. The challenge is nonsense. It takes a lot of time to work with behavioral methods. But the upside to that path is that you'll get a more balanced dog that isn't reliant on external stimulus (e.g. pinch) to do a behavior.

This is not very effective. You need to say "no" when the dog jumps on you to teach the dog a negative association with jumping. You are basically perfecting your sits, not dissuading her from jumping on you.
@Peppaq Жыл бұрын
I couldn't think of a more ineffective method, saying "NO!" rather than teaching them what you want them to actually do in that situation is gonna help right! Might aswell give them an English course aswell so they can figure out what to do with the word no
@Yusheesan Жыл бұрын
@@Peppaq This is the ultimate stupidity of the positive only community. They cannot comprehend the difference between teaching and preventing and they just keep regurgitating each other's talking points. Teaching a dog what you want them to do will not prevent a dog from making mistakes. "No" means stop doing what you are doing because it's bad. It's effective and it works. My dog stops doing what I don't want them to do because I taught him that "no" means stop. He does what I want him to do because I taught him to. With respect to English, do you teach your dog "sit", "come", and other commands? Do you put your dog through an English course for that? Dogs understand associations, they don't actually know what those words mean. I might as well use the word "unicorn" as a substitute for "no" and my dog will still listen and stop doing what I don't want him to do.

It has literally taken me three years to get my dog to stop doing this with even just SOME guests. She still does it with people she doesn’t really know. I think she just really wants to sniff their faces to get to know them better, but it scares off lots of potential friends that might want to come over to my place to just hang out. It’s driving me insane. Sometimes I think she’s gonna keep doing it until she’s old and arthritic and physically can’t anymore.
