I definitely see them as intersecting at some points, I'm kinda an amorous alt kinda person myself but I would say I am more punk and goth than emo, I've dated old school emos and there is definitely a difference there, but I think with new emos and nu goth the lines get a bit trickier, like the emo revival chick who got into the occult and more passive edge than agro edge mellows out into nu goth if that makes sense

For some kids who couldn't spring right into goth, emo was kind of like a right of passage to me lol. Was emo through most of high school and now a goth in my twenties

Emily Rachel Gilley I kind of agree with emo being in the video. No, goth and emo aren't the same, but a lot of former emo kids (myself included) got into goth after growing out of emo. Emo was my introduction to alternative subculture as a whole and it layed the foundation for me becoming goth.

Coming from someone who everyone in school considered emo (though i was more halfway between emo and punk) i couldn’t agree more, emo is not goth it is its own category in the whole alternative scene.

In high school I super related to emo fashion and music, but now, over 10 years later, I love everything to do with goth. 80's post punk and new wave is my favourite music ever. But I still remember those emo days and look back fondly. Still have a bunch of emo music that I visit on my spotify sometimes.

Christina Nielsen she meant the real Matias at the end of the video had cards, not the model. If you watch all the way through there are a couple of brief moments where you can see Matias holding cards during his input. I think it's sweet that he has cards too and made sure he got all of his points covered.

NO NO NO it most definetly is not. Many people say it is or believe it is, but that's not true. Metalheads have a world of their own. The styling and stuff is definetly similar and you have goth metalheads but metalheads are really just all about the metal music. If you're into metal music, then you're a metalhead.

I guess because the emo scene began from gothic culture. What I mean by that is that the emo scene/culture had something to use as a base. It borrowed quite a few elements from this kind of alternative cultures, like the black clothes, the heavy makeup, especially eye makeup, the music styles that are more aggressive in general and all that. I believe that the emo scene wouldn't start without something this edgy already existing. But these are just some thoughts of mine, not facts necessarily.

It came from Punk. Punk is the root for most alternative subcultures. Musically it emerged as a post-hardcore style with the 80's hardcore Punk movement. It was known as emotional hardcore. Started by bands such as Rites of Spring and Embrace. It slowly shifted to more indie rock and pop Punk through out the years before eventually screamo became a thing. It only broke into the mainstream around the mid 2000's and by then had become stylistically what people stereotype as Emo. Though originally style wise the original Emos resembled nothing of that of the modern Emo.

Emo is considered "gothic" when I have talked to other kids my age because it's about being artsy, not the stereotype that the kids make a fad of.

I am gonna lookup the past 40 years of Hardcore. I am a Metalhead that is also Straight-Edge. My friends tell me I dress quite Straight-Edge Hardcore with a mix of Metal in there, I just thought I was a Metalhead who just as much harped over Hardcore, you learn new things every day. I have done some research and it turns up that I am almost 50-50 between the fashions because today's Hardcore borrows from Emo, Old-School Hardcore, Metal and Goth fashion. I think that's why Emo is under the "goth" section: they borrow some things from goth fashion and people get confused because of the similarities... almost completely the same in aesthetics but: similar doesn't mean same. Emo kids take some ideas from goths but bend it and twist it around. It is a punk fashion with drama-filled lyrics, whiny vocals and a more intricate sense of melody than the rest of the punk styles. I now agree with Emo not being Gothic. Just because I wear mostly black, listen to metal and Hardcore: does that make me a goth? Answer: no, it doesn't. We have a different set of philosophies, different looks, different music, different patterns of fashion, a different outlook of life, etc. We are not the same! Would a goth do the follow: shave their head, identify as a SHARP, listen to metal/hardcore, wear skater shoes, converse, boat shoes, sneakers, etc. exes on the back of their hands, be predominately vegan, mix up screaming, singing, rapping, shouting or yelling for vocals? How about Mosh, Ska-dance or Pogo? How about have an aggressive mosh-pit? I mean, think about that, I am Straight-Edge Hardcore and I am a Metalhead (not at all the same thing at all). Emo belongs to the Punk/Hardcore Scene, not the Gothic scene, Amen.
