Hey man, I just found your channel last month after doing my internship at a museum in Germany where we had three pinball machines (a Bally Monte Carlo, a LaserCue and a Revenge from Mars). I really enjoyed playing them but due to them being played daily by many people they always had some trouble. I became friends with the guy who owned and maintained them and I was happy to help him. (During that time, I got into the fun of repairing them myself.) He was a really nice guy and had a lot of knowledge on them. After my internship was over, I found your channel . So I Just wanted to say: It's great work you do and fun to watch you fix and play these machines. Keep up your great work!

What a cool machine. I like the roto targets much better than the swinging targets. Old pinball machines are a delight to the senses, I can imagine the smell of overheated electrical components and imbedded cigarette smoke. The sounds and lights, quite a treat.

There are insulting creeps on the internet. Life is too short and precious to let them bother you. Schematics used to make my brain fog up. They are starting to make sense. Your explanation of mechanical devices and your appreciation of the genius of the old ways. You buck the trend of our disposable mentality. Thanks man don’t mean to gush.

What a great looking game this is now. Really useful stuff on the roto target and the problem with the pop bumper. It’s gonna look dynamite with the instruction cards and the backglass on. The bells sound fantastic too.

I was just at the Las Vegas Pinball Hall of Fame last week, and after that visit, yes, I am a new believer in the Roto-Target, both this fan version, and the carousel version. Also the turntable spinner where you hit pegs on the turntable to make it spin to score. (Not the kind like on Fireball and many others that are there specifically to cause chaos) Having a whole section of EM's it was great to walk around hearing nothing but chimes, bells, and the occasional knock. Did you know modern day Stern has released a retro series game. I don't know about the innards but from the outside it is built to look like a wood cabinet EM, has score reels, ball in play lights, the shorter 2" flippers, and a playfield layout reminicent of an EM. Game title is "Whoa Nellie!" I'd put picture here but can't figure out how to do that. Agree with you - I like the older games where all you need to know could fit on an apron card or two, not like the newer games where the apron card gives you a QR code to a 19 page PDF Players Manual for the game. Lots of games unfortunately were down, but I bet Joe could tell me exactly what's wrong with them without even seeing them. ;)

Whoa Nellie was originally made by Whizbang Pinball, This game is a conversion of a 1957 Gottlieb Continental Cafe. Stern acquired the rights to make additional versions of the game. Complete name is "Whoa Nellie! Big Juicy Melons"

The shorted coil was interesting because half of the paper was all burnt and the rest looked pretty fine. In normal operation I would expect it to darken evenly. It probably shorted so only half of one layer worked, then a gazillion amps went through that part and burnt the paper unevenly.

Yeah that’s prob the part that had the short so it got hotter there than the other side…

I think sharpies are alcohol based and that's why it runs with the clear coating

Walking through schematics honestly is the best help anyone can provide for old pinballs. It's certainly not intuitive at first glance or attempt.

Are replacement bulbs available, or do you have a stockpile of old bulbs? Is there an LED replacement available?
@LyonsArcade
@LyonsArcade 10 ай бұрын
They still make the bulbs (incandescent) and there are also LED's available so light bulbs aren't a problem on them. The Incandescent bulbs are about 20 cents and the LED bulbs are about a dollar.
