That hidden switch is a nightmare on my 1954 Lady Luck. It's lurking under a large relay bank hanging under the playfield, and is nearly impossible to adjust. Thanks for another great video Ron.

I think we all want to see you attempt a resurrection of a super complicated bally bingo machine. Even if it doesnt work at the end. We want to see your process of logic. More than that we want to see the schematic stretch from the front door to the back of the building and watch you patiently explain. With the occasional "it's broke" from Joe and the "c'mon people" from you. That series would push you to 75k viewers

Well I’ve just completed the C’mon People journey. Watched and liked EVERY video on the channel. Thank you so much Ron for what you’re doing. It’s literally life changing for me. I never had the confidence to do any kind of board repairs but now I’m taking them on and actually doing an ok job of it. You make it all seem much less complicated and doable.

Thanks for this suspenseful video: what could possibly go wrong with this EM?! 🤔 I’m looking forward to the follow-up 😬. Gottlieb’s Mayfair (aka Hyde Park) pinball was released in 1966. But it was not until 1971, with Gottlieb’s Playball (aka, Home Run, aka Extra Inning), that the company introduced 3-inch flippers. The Mayfair pinball you are repairing have been modified. This was done in the early 70’s, to give a new breath of life to the old machines which had been outdated due to the arrival of 3-inch flippers, especially in Europe (more specifically in Italy).

There is something to be said for keeping a game as original as possible but the kick switch for power is probably something I would modify to make it like more modern games. My Gottlieb Paradise is nearly identical in most ways to this Mayfair and I got tired of the kick switch really quickly. I added a push button switch in the location of modern power switches and rewired the kick switch to that. Because it's low profile it's just screwed into the bottom of the cab so really a minor modification. I much prefer the way it is now and I believe most collectors wouldn't mind this mod.

On many automotive applications, a starter solenoid may have a double winding, they call one a Pull-In winding, the other a Hold-In winding, for the amp draw reduction as you said.

True also as in other of his pinball videos has been brought up about the two warnings on The Flipper and sometimes other coils as well but for a different reason there are all kinds of weird and wonderful types of coils in various types of equipment or even things that you think would not have any additional electrical portions but do in some cases. Such as a thermal switch with an additional one or more additional lead wires depending on circumstances and how it's used but having a heating element to affect the opener closing point-of- the thermal switch either to affect the cycle or a different reason. One clever use of this is basically a delay startup or a sequencer type of circuitry such as a sequence startup of heating elements to avoid a very heavy start up load of various systems but pretty clever. One saw component I got a bunch of surplus parts see a Treasurer it looks a large what I call Sandstone resistor except rectangular and taller than most resistors no documentation on it whatsoever possibly part number or not even a part number probably was something that was used in something and maybe the project was discontinued or just surplus of them it had four wire leads to at the bottom of each end I'm like what could this be took some measurements. Two of these was a disc complete circuit Aki showed continuity probably extremely close to 0 ohms can't remember so long ago but or very close. The other had quite a bit of resistance I was thinking some sort of weird power resistor but something got me scratching my head knowing that good and well this is door component would not be a safety issue to do this just didn't have access to an x-ray machine per se do the old big Clive x-ray machine routine or Allies known as Vice of knowledge wish I had one of those swing press Hammers and I've been nice. But then again this was back long time ago back where those channels didn't even exist or close to it perhaps! Since I had a gazillion of those Surplus components and was curious give one a few whacks with a 12 or 14 oz hammer seeing what it's that's look like or making it spill its guts whatever you want to say. The thing what it was was the two of the leads were going to a wire wound resistive element in a common block of material! The other thing in there which was another component was a one-time thermal fuse! The idea was that if enough current would pastors resistor to create enough heat it would open the thermal fuse. Of course no idea what these would have been used in but I've seen similar ideas in other things especially back in the day. Something very similar in an old TV use resistor to either measure current or the circuit that would measure current and amplify enough to drive the resistor to melt a fuse link! I understand some old microwaves used to use something similar that if excessive current was gone on the high-voltage enough current would flow to open a fusible element or something in somewhere to what this component would have been! Also I understand in some old automotive AC systems there was a one-time component like this that was used under certain circumstances to open the circuit I believe it was something like a superheat switch or something like this I've heard of something on besides I might have this wrong. I know there's going to be people saying about right to repair and built-in obsolescence and so on and one-time parts that deliberately shut something down when something happens but there were some applications were something like this would have been used sprayer for texture of device or to shove something down to prevent further damage or under certain circumstances we're repair would need to be made without causing more issues. Most of I've seen has been in older equipment that would have been harder to do it a different way or somewhat similar not really so much modern times! Sort of a similar idea to one-time switch or relay such as in at least one automotive AC system Howard that there was a switch that would only activate under certain conditions of temperature and pressure and would open I believe it was open circuit under the conditions in which the repeal of refrigerant charge that result in the system being worse off if not repaired it when this occurs. Provides protection for other components so that you know something repairable is not turned into something that was not so much repairable and so their complaints would not need to be replaced and still be serviceable was the idea behind

There have been some interesting components and some other videos on this line such as a rather interesting relay that essentially had a fuse link and a spring-loaded contact but almost look like the case of say supersizing a diode Chase Butthead Ford leads one going to a either a coil for a heating element or a fuse link that would melt a certain temperature possibly enough current to blow the fuse link and the plunger spring-loaded Witchwood short gold contacts at the other end I think this was eevblog don't know if there was a follow up video as of this time still need a to check in this case it's presumably something military almost like that is meant to be something in the final missionary or final Sing sang a no-go or a go under certain circumstances the need to be reliable

Another scene that was clever was the resistors in some systems a pinball for the flash lamps those larger lamps that were as certain voltage and they call them flash lamps even know they are not actually yourself flashing bulbs like some of the pinball machines had but it's just the type of lamp that's used to give very bright indications and or light source not going into very specific detail as much as could have. Like also does self flashing bulbs in some of the pinball systems were used as a timing ailment and some of them in the old school ones as well which were harder to get ahold at one point evidently possibly more recently but of course that could cause an issue. I remember years ago when a hardware place closed they had all kind of voltage lamps and bulbs in the kids to replace them all labeled and everything like an old cardboard things in a case. Remember back in the day I got all the ones I could afford from this Just for future got a lot of stuff from that place closed! Wish I had room for one of the things that we're holding wire spools would have been really nice do something like that. Although one thing that at one time something happened where are some stuff is no longer needed and doing some updates I was asked by the guy owned it if I could use some stuff and try to find a way to four spools of wire what's something that had been taken apart and that might be of use to do so so Salvage a few components from this almost went to other something else

Also if anyone's ever noticed hell sometimes when a bulb is used as a fuse sometimes this is used for protection of speakers even but it look cases sometimes back in the day and got all sure what I'll use them but it was actually cheaper to use a bulb that was have a fuse and holder crazy I know but back in the day perhaps a more modern sometimes this was a real thing. Not so much as a current limiter but just to act as a screwed-up use of too much current is drawn the filament Burns Out Even a lot of times if I'm building a project that where you're using multiple bulbs in series and there's a chance that when doing things there could be a short and accidentally killed low-voltage bulbs at be harder to get a hold of and would be easier just to put a higher voltage bulb in series limiting the current to keep from blowing bulbs this has been successful in many of my projects and sometimes just having a sacrificial bulb that would be less expensive than the ones been protected work as well! Sometimes a good incandescent bulb in the right type makes for better lighting than LED in modern times we're certain things it just works better Anthem does vice versa. Back in the day get something used or otherwise and salvaging something that's not really worth repairing or just something Oddball they don't need but yet it has highly usable parts for other things! I'm sure most people would realize back in the day there was a lot of incandescent indicators and bulbs and things more so the nowadays. Plus sometimes having all the sockets with them and some bulbs are more desirable than others using these for other uses was worth saving you know they might have a lot of hours although sometimes not they were still handy. Hard to believe somebody virtual bulbs they used to produce still have modern bulbs being made for these bases and modern Bob's being produced for the old holders. Sometimes even using your old light socket with a modern LED twist is great for some things Niche when all you need is just something specific for a one-of illumination for something. Not to mention just using incandescent sometimes works better and easier than LED if you've got everything needed to use incandescent voltages and currents might as Wells if it looks better in some cases as well. As well as say you've got 12 or 24 volts and you're just needing to have a bunch of Lights just run a bunch of all voltage bulbs in series is easier than trying to figure out how to do LEDs if it's just something that is one off here and there and not something that left together forever Jay-Z even use the power Transformers from clock radios and digital clocks for things like this even had used some old God the gutted clocks for the low-voltage portion that would run filaments on something like a vacuum fluorescent display was proper voltage for some bulbs also ran across a bunch of eggs funds that used 6 volt wedge base bulbs and even use the Transformers. Had seen some of these that seem to have a relay setup so that could have been used on some sort of old backup system perhaps emergency lighting or otherwise where that if AC power cut out a relay with a changeover switching the low-voltage bulbs which were on I believe AC don't know if there was a diode undies or not can't remember that would have had any terminal block for auxiliary input these things were ancient but it's was just interesting that they were intended for some sort of backup system back in the day when usually it was just connected to straight AC power and the only exit time the exercise early it was just one circuit and the power was on. All the old equipment like this and other sorts of weird and wonderful things are great for parts when you want something nicer or just vintage or just something a little more useful than the original things might have been any more it's worth doing something with something old to make it new again nowadays so much stuff is basically just plastic and I get thrown out it's kind of like those so-called energy-saving LED fixture is that once One LED decides to go south the whole thing is trash landfill lights ofsome people refer to

I am extra interested in this series. I'm to the play testing stage of a 1963 Flying Chariots that is much like your Mayfair. Mine was stored dry, but perhaps hot-the glue had let go for most of the wood and no rust. Besides a couple fried coils I found about 4 wires had fallen off switches. My playfield art also looks great. Well, except for the holes from posts partially blocking the side drains somebody added. lol

If the game has a 1st point relay in the control bank, trip it with your finger. That's probably all the matter. The 1st point relay tells the game to wait, so you can deposit a coin for 2nd player, and the relay then tells the game, go ahead start play (or reset at the next new game.) . If it's not the 1st point relay, then SB is not pulling in, or the reset relay is somehow involved. Or possibly the armature switch, but I bet it's just the 1st pointer. Game won't reset unless 1st point is down.

really envoy your repair videos...I have a cowpoke wiht monor issues but need help to figure them out....any suggestions on where to go for troubleshooting ? I have a couple of issues with my cowpoke. Basically in great shape and I keep it going by blind luck. Have an issue with the 10 point "kicker" at the top (round 10 point when lit with the top cap) It still kicks the ball but no bell ring or points register ? Replaced bulbs in that area and it stopped working then....Any ideas what it may be ? Also 3 lights that should rotate from side to side (one green and 2 white on the bottom kicker sides and the 100 point when lit that should rotate from side to side). not sure if these ever worked but think they once did ? Any suggestions would be appreciated...the new led lights look great

As it's looping, it appears it's not seeing a reset of some sort and so goes around resetting again. Might be a mis-aligned switch which derails the reset once complete and isn't working quite right, which one, is another matter!

The trouble with using a dropping resistor like that is the lamps have to have an expected load. To much current they become dim and the resistor overheats. To little current and voltage goes to high and shortens lamp life.
