Join me as I repaint this easy Pacific Northwest mountain landscape in Gouache. I'll compare gouache to watercolor and which I prefer for this style of painting. Have you tried Gouache before? Which do you prefer?
Art Deco and Folk Art paintings have also been inspiring my style.

I prefer the gouache. For a different, even smoother result try hot press paper, it’s lovely

I have one book of hot press paper. I hate it for watercolor for the way I like to paint. I will have to give it a try with gouache.

Gouache totally. Look at the style, it's less watery and it's nice but watercolor looks too watery for me. So I am choosing gouache

I love gouache. I have used it successfully to paint fruit and veg on paper for pencil and charcoal. Thick and watered down, it's easy to add shadow on light colour and white is hugely successful for highlights. My next attempt will be on black paper. I did a little dab and it looked as though it would work. Great demo... thank you for spreading the word on gouache.

I have Holbein and recently purchased Winsor Newton….the Winsor Newton is definitely my preferred gouache.

I liked this! I’ve never used gouache, know nothing about it so this was very interesting to me. I can see where this could fill the bill for many different techniques and looks. I just may invest in some. ( even though I’ve said for the 100th time…NO MORE SUPPLIES!!!) 🤗👍👍

I wonder if Kuretaki paints would work well for this. When used concentrated, I am told they are similar to gouache.

Do you use any different type of brush for gouache than watercolor?

I use the same brushes for both watercolor and gouache.

I don't like the patchiness of gouache - I like it velvet smooth but then you lose the movement - it looks too flat! I can't win with gouache! Your moon is fantastic and I love the painting - maybe I can try to embrace the patchiness!

It’s always worth a try. You may discover something new or just reaffirm that you don’t particularly care for gouache. Keep experimenting and keep learning!
