Yes, this is how we do it in the Philippines - from elementary to university graduation - we students sing the graduation song, usually a tribute to parents, teachers and mentors or an expression of love, camaraderie, and unity among the graduates. We also sing the alma mater song.

It is part of our culture. It is done in ALL schools except perhaps during the pandemic and that’s the reason why nothing was streamed during the past 2 years or so. I miss my country when I saw this. Memories of Home! Thank you for reacting to our culture!

I can recall, since the 1970's in Cebu City and everywhere in the Philippines Graduating high school always had their own individual graduation song. We did have mandatory music class to graduate. During the school year a appropriate song is picked or one is created or composed by a group or one of the senior music teacher. All graduating students must attend these song rehearsals to graduate.

No graduation is complete without a song, I graduated back in 94 and we had a graduation song that we practiced for weeks and even to the extent of having different harmonies. I don't understand why we do this but I guess it is a tradition and I thought that it is true to any graduation in the world. I just found out that it is only common in our country.

Yes, from kinder, grade school, high school through college. This is a special day and they even have their own graduation song that they have to remember as they go ahead to their new life and so on. There's a video from Baylosis Squad, the Mom is a foreigner and Dad is Pilipino, I think and they their their children went to the public school and part of the graduation ceremony/recognition day.

One thing I will never forget! We did respect all our teachers coz, we students know they CARE... Our school teachers do not have a difficult time in the classroom because, there is Discipline, most of all our parents, listens to our teachers if and when we get in trouble.

@@rociorccolon yeah i dont think it's like an official competition. i'm filipno but i didnt go to school there, but i too a getting my mind blown from them. they are at another level when it comes to music and performances just in general. they have school parades, they have something like 'dipolog' championships, i guess it's like chear leaders and bands and parades etc. one thing that blew my mind (if you haven't seen) was what efra and waleska reviewed with the children playing ukele at elementary school kzfaq.info/get/bejne/j8ylY5WIuKzYgmQ.html not sure where the original video is, maybe you could review the original video if you could find it. cause yep i agree with the image, probably why they are goood at music cause they get them started so early!

Yes, EVERY school--be it public AND private in ALL ACADEMIC LEVELS, in the Philippines to have their Graduation Song. It's a REQUIREMENT. It's either the school's song like when I graduated HS, since it's also common in private schools to have their own originally composed graduation songs. Or a popular song for the time--usually a "Christian-themed" song or something similar to it.

NDDU-Notre Dame of Dadianggas University. Dadianggas is the old name of General Santos city. And what they doing is a norm in PH. A part of graduation ceremony in the country.

We usually do it, the graduates sing for the parents , sometimes you cant help the tears from falling specially to all the parents. Somehow with the hardship and endeavors in sending their children to school graduation is one step of fulfillment

Yeah I just graduated there last year. We really sing in graduation. For nursing students we also sing for our capping and pinning celebration. We have great singers in particular because of that. Many belt out the songs for fun as well no matter the setting. One even sang during our hospital shift 😂

Graduations in the Philippines is the best either it'a graduation of Kindergarten, Elementary, High School or College each school has prepared a beautiful graduation rites. Graduation has mixed emotions of excitement to march on the stage to get the diploma, happiness having finished the studies and sadness for leaving the Alma Mater, the teachers and classmates, above all gratitude to the parents who supported our studies from Kindergarten to college. Once the graduation March Music is played some cried for the excitement to receive on stage the hard earned diploma. That's the feelings of each filipino graduate during graduation, a thing we treasure and cant forget. Proud Filipino here. Mabuhay ang Filipinas🇵🇭🙂👍

Our graduation song for elementary was The Climb and our parents were beside us while we sing so I saw my mother crying and I cried a little too because I saw her cried, when she teased me about it, I said I cried because the song was too high 🤣 For high school, it was Long Live and for University, it was A Million Dreams 😊

As a member of the Gen X cohort, it was customary for all the graduating students to participate in a group singing performance during our elementary graduation ceremony. Similarly, during my high school graduation ceremony, which involved thousands of graduates, we all sang together as well. This practice is widely observed in the Philippines, regardless of the size of the graduating class.
