As a small nursery and someone basically trying to "perfect" grafting, it's nice to hear I'm not the only one who's experienced very humbling failure despite thinking you've done everything right! I really appreciate your insights Matt and Tim. I don't have the luxury of a mentor so every little tidbit is valuable. Considering some of the devastating failure you folks have experienced on the grafting side as you mentioned, you absolutely deserve all the success you are experiencing now.

Very little if none until it is leafing out. I basically splash with a wand

What type of graft would u guys call it when u take a scion off of the same tree and graft it to a new position on the trunk and when is the best time to do that on a japanese maple? Is it possible to do that in winter and summer? Thanks

Hey Guys. Do you use the "wax" to cover the cut end of a scion (top end not the end in the graft union-an internode basically)? I've noticed on some of my scions some mold or fungus growing on this cut, above a set of buds. I have not covered this before but wondering if perhaps it's a good idea.
