In this grain to glass video I teach out how to make an (easier than you thought) American light lager. This approachable, crushable, craveable, see-through-able beer will quench your thirst and leave you wanting more. Which is good! Because it's under 4% ABV and light enough to pair with just about anything you can put on a BBQ. I tried my hand at using biofine in this one, so check out how darn clear this turned out.
Recommended Equipment:
✭ Inkbird - amzn.to/3wHzy1z
✭ Fermonster with spigot - amzn.to/2VNGWf2

✭ PBW - amzn.to/36HFTiZ
✭ Recommended starter kettle - amzn.to/3iFyRSS
✭ Propane burner - amzn.to/3xoz0yu

✭ Immersion chiller - amzn.to/3goWugZ

I just copied your version … it taste awesome 😎 thanks 🙏 I only swapped out whirlflock for Irish moss … an I racked into secondary fermenter for extra clear beer since I didn’t use biofine.

I think another video that we would enjoy is your process of adding biofine to your beer. I have used gelatin and it does seem to work well. But I also have been a bit apprehensive about that for several reasons. One being what you mentioned of adding animal product to my beer, but other being adding water that could possibly oxidate my beer.
@ProstwithPeter
@ProstwithPeter 3 жыл бұрын
I could! It was pretty easy since I’m kegging. It was basically purge sanitized keg, add 10 droppers (~10 mL) biofine, repurge a bit, then keg as normal! Shake a bit with CO2 attached to make sure the biofine is well distributed, then leave in the kegerator on pressure to carbonate and fine. First couple ounces were gunky, maybe one pour was a little cloudy, then BAM! Very clear beer.
@MachuPichuu
@MachuPichuu 2 жыл бұрын
Another good way is to add it to a 1L bottle. Pressurize it with a soda pressurizer adapter (can't remember the name off hand) and then add it to your gas line on your already cooled and pressurized keg. It just has to be higher pressure then your keg for it to empty.

Hey Peter. I know it's been a year but just curious if that beer changed over time and did you also brew it a second time? Also do you still think that the dextrose could be omitted? Or keep it? Thanks, cheers

@ProstwithPeter
@ProstwithPeter 3 жыл бұрын
I used about 10mL for the 5 gallon batch. The dropper wasn’t graduated, but I was definitely in the right range. I think that’s a bit high of a dose based on what it says, but I’d rather go high than low.

I have, in the past, put all my grains in at 100 degrees and bring the temp up to mash temp and then rest. I feel I get a better conversion. However, you cant bring the heat up to fast or you can scorch your grain. So it does take a little longer on the brew day but hey, if your just making beer and drinking beer, what's the difference? Give this a try/do a video. What's your opinion? Great video, love the whole brew from start to finish in one video!

@lazyplumber1616
@lazyplumber1616 2 жыл бұрын
@@ProstwithPeter yeah I do BIAB, I have a stand off in the bottom of my kettle from my pressure cooker and try and suspend the bag off the bottom to minimize the possibility of scorching. Low heat is the key. Just got a new Stainless false bottom, cant wait to try it. It fits in my kettle as well as my 10 gallon mash ton (home depot water cooler)

That's crazy clear! Have you ever used plain table sugar or cane sugar instead of dextrose to similarly lighten a beer? I've seen hard seltzer experiments comparing the two and coming up with very similar results but I'm yet to test it myself and wondering if it applies the same in light beer.
@ProstwithPeter

I’ve used other sugars in a saison, but never a light lager. I think in theory it should come up pretty darn similarly. Maybe I’ll have to do a little reading.

@@ProstwithPeter I've got some extra pilsen malt that I need to use soon and have biofine I'm just low on dextrose and saving what I've got for bottling so I might try this but swapping the sugar and see what happens. Or get my butt to the homebrew store sooner but we'll see which happens first 😅
