The Live Actions leaves out two things. 1. Kuina died by falling down the stairs and breaking her neck in her rush to get her whetstone to sharpen her sword for her daily Zoro duel they'd been doing for a while. (There's a rumor/fan theory that this was a 'code' for taking her own life, but no, she really just fell down the stairs.) 2. Zoro's Sensei is Kuina's father, that's why he can give her sword to Zoro.

Fun fact: the music that plays when the Going Merry first sets sail toward the end of this episode is an orchestral version of We Are!, the first anime opening and one of the most iconic musical elements of the show. I love that they waited four episodes for the perfect moment to use it instead of immediately to please the fans

Zoro being lost is just a great running gag

You'll hear people say that Kuina killed herself. That was a rumour that someone started on the One Piece reddit back in the day and a complete falsity. The sad truth is that after the katana fight with Zoro she went to get supplies to sharpen her sword from the warehouse, fell down some steps and died. It's simple and tragic - life being so easily extinguished by something so random. And that's the point - she's the one person Zoro can never beat. She will always be above him, even if he achieves their dream.

Actually, Devil Fruits are quite rare in the East Blue, and Klahadore didn't possess a Devil Fruit power. Having super strength or speed doesn't necessarily indicate that someone has a Devil Fruit power.

Zoro actually has an absolutly terrible sense of direction like the man getting lost is a running gag in the series, also something very enfuriating about Luffy sometimes is the fact that he knows a lot of veeeery important information that he never tells to anyone because "they never ask about it".

Also! On the Usopp scene where he tries to fire a slingshot at Kuro, he doesn't miss! Kuro actually catches the pellet in-between his fingers, if you look closely, you can see the little ball in a specific shot. And! If you ever rewatch the show or end up watching the anime, a little fun detail to notice, is that even when we first meet "Klahadore", the way he adjusts his glasses is very... unique!

Is Garp a famous marine? - He stood at the scaffold to execute the Pirate King at Episode 1. I guess yes :)

I wont spoil anything about Garp and Luffy, you will understand later in the show, but just a reminder that in the first episode Garp chose to go after the map when marines told him that it was a kid with a straw hat, and in the 2nd episode Koby told him his name was Luffy, Garp totally know what he is doing

I must say the fight choreography in this show is very very well done. All characters skills are well displayed, Zoro’s scenes are my favorite. The swordplay is smooth.

Garp happens to be one of the most strongest person in the world. Marines and pirates fear him alike. He’s a legend in the anime.

The addition of Usopp, and his bickering with Luffy, is what caused Nami to laugh and smile for the first time. The crew gets stronger when they are together.

I can't help but fall in love with how much joy, fun and happiness (amongst tension, excitement and sadness) the story brings you and how those emotions radiate from you! One Piece is such an amazing show, the live action is really well done particularly in regards to the cast (Mackenyu, the guy who plays Zoro, has been a huge One Piece fan before this, is caught up with the manga and had actually trained in sword skill before already!). Kuro's weird tic of lifting his glasses with his palm is directly noted as being due to avoiding cutting himself with his own weapon, as a way of noting that even after three years he hasn't lost his edge.

Four episodes in, I think I can fairly say that Zoro is my favorite character of the straw hat crew. Underneath that badass stoic swordsmen persona, lays a sweet, caring heart.

The accident was Kuina falling down the stairs while going to meet Zoro. It's implied she fell on her blade. The showrunners had no idea how to put that in live action without making unintentional comedy so they just didn't mention it.

In manga her body is show at the ground with her eyes covered with a handkerchief and her legs covered with a sheet. In anime they add a funeral procession where some older villagers commented that Kuina fall the stairs in the intent to sharpen her sword, and one of them said: But why someone so yyoung would do that? So in anime happened that no one knew that Kuina and Zoro were used to train eachh other with real blades. There're also some who believe that she commited seppuku (suicide) duo to her father (in anime) said that she could not inherit her father's dojo. But this is incorret. Either the anime is not canon information, either Oda would never insert such adult drama in a shonen manga, at the very beginning. Of course, people gossip about it. But its easy to understand... The value of Kuina sword which scarries her soul and her promisse with Zoro. On samurai basis if Kuina had neglected her promisse takin her own life, her sword would not have moral value. Would be a sword of someone who give up.

Kuro didn't eat a Devil Fruit. There are several different power systems in One Piece. Devil Fruit is only one of them. Most people in One Piece who are super strong or fast just trained a lot.

There are two interpretation. She fell off the stairs and died. It simple and unceremonious. I think the message here is no matter how big your dream is or how grand your plan for your life is , death is something that will stop it regardless. The other interpretation is she killed herself. In the manga her father doesnt want her to inherit the dojo and belittle her because she is a woman. So she off herself.

Stuff like speed, strength, and endurance can just be honed to supernatural levels in One Piece. Devil Fruits impart distinctly unique supernatural gifts like being made of rubber or the ability to disassemble yourself. Basically, if it's not _that_ weird, it's probably not a Devil Fruit.

The accident that killed Kuina was actually explained in the flashback here in both the anime and manga. Not sure why the live action chose to leave it ambiguous. The revelation that Garp is Luffy's grandfather didn't come until a couple hundred chapters later in the manga. Garp actually wasn't even present in the East Blue Saga in the anime and manga. Kuro uses his palm to adjust his glasses. In the manga and anime, there's another member of his crew (one left out in the live action) who sees him do so in his disguise as Klahadore the butler and comment about it giving him chills. Another fun reaction. Now on to the next episode!

i don't know where the confusion comes from.. ofc luffy knows who his grandpa is, but this was simply the first time luffy saw his grandpa is chasing them... i am also very sure garp already knew or assumed that it must be luffy who stole the map after he got the message on his "shell-phone" about a pirate in a straw hat stealing it in episode 1 ofc garp could also think it was shanks or some other random dude in a straw hat but i am pretty sure garp was already aware in EP1 who the pirate is.. only the viewers weren't.. koby also told garp luffy's name in episode 2 and i am quite sure garp knows his grandsons name... so if garp wasn't aware in EP1 he was in EP2... there might exist a world where grandson and grandpa never met and don't know each other, but then luffy recognizing garp would make no sense.. so its more likely garp and luffy know each other, which includes knowing each others name and looks, and garp already knew who he was since episode 1 or 2 latest

Klahadore/Captain Kuro, Sham, and Buchi are 1/1 casting like Oda plucked them right out of the anime even though Sham is male in the manga and anime I love the LA version of the Black Cat Pirates.

if the show doesnt specifically say someone has a devil fruit then that person doesnt have a devil fruit, This story has 4 completely different power systems aside from physical prowess. Kuro is just naturally fast which is a physical prowess. The power systems are (and anyone can have combinations of these): Devil Fruit Haki Technology and I would actually count the NAMED SWORDS as a separate power system.

Heads up/little bit dark theory around Kuina: Apparently, in the original version of the manga, when Kuina died there was a term used that can say "Fell down the stairs". However, apparently that term can also be a proverb for "committing suicide". So with Kuina having been such a strong girl but clearly suffering from the expectation that no matter how hard she worked and no matter how much talent she had, eventually there would come a time when others would surpass her just because she was a women, people have been speculating for a long time whether the duality of the term (if real) is actually meant to imply that she did commit suicide because of that despair, and to use the other translation to make it more kids-friendly. The opponents of this theory argue that she didn't commit suicide because making that vow with Zoro and seeing how he accepted her as his eternal rival despite being a girl pulled her out of that despair. And that the accident was in fact just a cruel act of fate. We don't know what the truth is. But I thought you might be interested in this. In any case, Zoro's fierce ambition stems exactly from this, from his promise to her that they would continue until one of them becomes the best in the world. He wants to carry on her will and their dream and become a swordsman so good that his name even reaches the heavens.

In the manga, Kuina's death isn't shown either but they are more precise about the accident, I dont know if they keep it secret to change it later but I personally think that they didnt say it cause it's a too "dumb" but the important part is just that it's a "natural" death, like a bad accident that happens IRL, wich is link to what she said about being a girl, life isnt fair and she is the representation of it. In this series if anyone has eaten a Devil Fruit, they will tell you, like they did with Luffy and Buggy. In this world, there is something like the Force or Ch'i, called Haki. Haki is a mysterious power that allows the user to utilize their own spiritual energy for various purposes. All living beings in the world are capable of learning Haki; however, most people do not notice it or fail to awaken it.

It is hard not to say anything but because this is a fantasy world, devil fruits gives people powers but there are other strengths/powers that are in this world. Shanks doesn't have devil fruit powers but you saw how he "controlled" the sea king with his stare. Zoro has strong fighting skills and isn't a devil fruit user. You will find out later about Garp and Luffy's relationship in the live action but it is explained later how much Garp was actually part of Luffy's life growing up. I don't remember exactly where but it does come later in the series when they introduce other characters. But Garp is indeed his actual grandfather since they do establish that in the manga but what they don't talk about in the live action as much as they do in the manga and anime is how much of a big shot that Garp is in the Marines even before Gold Roger.

This was skipped in the Live Action but Zoro's Sensei is Kuina's Father. In fact the village Zoro is from is called Shimotsuki Village, the same name as Kuina's family name, Shimotsuki Kuina. This is actually important later on but it would be years (maybe even decades) before the LA ever gets there.
