This video made me realize how long a portrait really takes😂 if I were to make just one video about the entire portrait, it would be much more sped up and kind of hard to show what I’m doing! I think I will just do one more after this - hair and clothing☺️ (I’m done with the hair at this point hehe)

Brilliant tutorial Alexis! I don’t draw portraits but I’ve always wanted to! Every time I’ve tried I always mess the proportions up and make my drawings look like cartoons! But at least I know I can come back to your videos when I try to draw portraits again 😊💕

Thank you Amy💜 it definitely can be difficult so I understand where you’re coming from. I feel the same way about certain animal drawings😂 I think it would be fun to see you try portraits again one day but definitely no pressure on yourself. I love the work you produce already!

Yay been waiting for part 2 🤩!! Black and white sketches are definitely easier to learn how to shadow compared to colored sketches. Gradient scales was one of my favorite units to study. It definitely makes a difference! Thicker paper with a lot of tooth is perf for layering 🙌🏻! Q-tips are amazing!! Not the best to use in your ears- but perfect for an art project lol! Mouths are something I struggle with drawing too. I loveeee how you did the teeth 🦷🤍!! The forehead is coming together too. Ears are definitely tricky! Excited to see part 3 😊💖!

Thank you Kari💕 I know what you mean, colored drawings can be really difficult. I also love creating gradient scales and don’t think I’ll ever get tired of it😂 and I’m glad to know it’s not just me that struggles with drawing mouths!

Once you started getting the glasses in, her face really came together. This was so interesting to watch. Also I don't mind if you make more then one video about the same subject :)

I think Nick has some of those jumbo pencils; I will need to search for them because they look like fun to draw with! Portrait is looking amazing....I really like the combination of graphite and the darker charcoal together.

I highly recommend it- now that I have the jumbo pencils, I can't resist using them and I've barely used my regular sized pencils😂For some reason they are just so fun. They feel more comfortable in the hand as well. And thank you! I almost never use graphite on its own because it just doesn't get dark enough for me ahh!

It looks absolutely incredible! And thank you so much for all the tips- you really are wonderful at explaining things & I love hearing your thought process. Perhaps a coloured pencil portrait is next🤔 or maybe skin swatches with your beautiful 100 set of luminance pencils would be a first place to start 😊 Actually, as you said, colour really can be so overwhelming so perhaps a charcoal portrait ( I thought I would absolutely hate charcoal ... thought it would be messy... but turned out, I loved it & it’s not messy as long as you do it a certain way!! Your charcoal/ graphite crocodile was absolutely incredible which is why I mentioned the charcoal portrait 😊). Anyway, thank you so much again and I’m looking forward to the next part! It’s amazing already and I know completed it will be incredible!! Edit- paper update!!! I couldn’t resist ( we chatted quite a bit on your paper comparison videos... I just didn’t want to bug you again there!). I purchased a sheet of arches hot pressed watercolour paper instead of a pad as it was more economical. I compared it to the paper in the pads of arches hot pressed watercolour paper they had in the shop and it seemed so different!! The sheets slightly more textured and seemed thicker ( hope that makes sense).... so now you may have another paper to test & compare to your already large paper collection! 😂 thank you so much again Alexis

Thank you Paige!💜I am happy you're enjoying this series. I definitely would like to make some skin swatches, maybe I'd start with polychromos as I find they are more difficult, but definitely luminance eventually too. Ahh charcoal, it really is fun to work with so maybe I should. Did you use charcoal sticks or pencils out of curiosity? What! The single sheet hot pressed Arches were different? Oh no, now I am very confused and will need to investigate😂 Also, I've got a bonus video Monday coming out about graphite/charcoal materials and I will address paper a little bit there as well:)

Wow , the portrait is really coming together , I'm so glad you broke up the process into more than one video , it's a lot easier to follow that way .. it surprised me to hear you say that you are( were?) intimidated by lips and the glasses .. I didn't think you'd be intimidated by anything,lol .. can't wait to see the next instalment 👍🙂
@AlexisCassandraArt
@AlexisCassandraArt 3 жыл бұрын
Thank you! Yes, lips are difficult because they can easily look cartoon-like and glasses are something I don't practice much as most portraits I draw don't include them! But I am happy with how they turned out for this drawing. I'm glad you're enjoying this series and thanks for always supporting my channel! :)
