Grateful Dead

Күн бұрын

"When Loser was 'on,' the song was sung with conviction and passion, and the instrumental segment built to a massive crescendo, one of those moments that indicated the band was having a great night. In the late 1980s into the early 1990s, there were several versions of Loser that fit this bill. The Albany rendition from 3/24/90 gets a lot of the mentions, but this one from the previous summer is every bit as great." - David Lemieux
Directed by Len Dell’Amico and co-produced by Len Dell’Amico and GDP.

Yep, for me, the '89 Riverfront Coliseum "Loser" was the template that Jerry would use throughout that period until reaching a climax at Knickerbocker 3/24/90. Such a powerful tune!

I always felt like Brent was the musician Garcia needed in the GD. Sometimes it looks and sounds as if the two of them are just playing as a duo, and everyone else slides in around them. A great team.

The way they look at each other when they're locked in together says it all. I find myself rewatching any time Jerry makes that little smile from some move Brent made, it's always heartwarming to see and incredible to listen to. What a band.

I found them in '87. I'm an avid listener, seen them many times, Ratdog, Jerry Band, GD and Dead and Company. I still find amazing gems all the time. 12 30 77 is a mind-blowing show I first heard this year. There is a 16mm film of the entire show on KZfaq. The second set is absolutely ridiculously good. It's an ode to the Tantric Arts. I am still deciphering the esoteric meanings of the work. It never gets old, and it seems there is no end of finding new, incredible shows. My first shows were post Brent. I've hardly scratched the surface of the Brent years, and I'm nearly forty years in already.

Jerry shredding a distorted guitar solo on this song during these few years (late 80’s early 90’s) is something so special. Nothing the man couldn’t play.

Just wow! The soul Jerry had on this day (and most others) was so ever present and just beamed into the souls of everyone in attendance. This version is way up there!!❤️❤️❤️

Brent always seems just overjoyed to be there, playing this music with these particular guys. May he (and Pig, and Jerry) rest in peace. I saw this iteration of the band in '80, at the outdoor Lewiston show that seems to have become legendary. Levon opened, and since there's audio of the Dead's show floating around I'm wondering if they recorded Levon's excellent band as well. Gotta take a look. That show was the last time I did acid, a fitting farewell to that particular vice...
