I feel like people overlook Calvin's ability to do impressions. That Gideon was so good and he often does good impressions in the background.

Long before this episode released the guy who voiced Tad Strange, despite being told not to publicise it yet, added it to his online resume and people noticed it and immediately started theorising that it was a new character related to Bill Cipher, and decided he would be a purple square to compliment/contrast Bill's yellow triangle, with a bowler hat instead of a tophat. There was fanart and everything, people dressed up as him at cons. Alex Hirsch tried to tell people it was just a one-off joke and not anything big, and they of course didn't believe him. When this episode did finally air, some people even accused him of changing it because of their theories and he had to explain that the episode was already made long before

This event will forever scar Tad Strange.

After the series they 100% need to do some sort of video or livestream of them reading the physical journal. Either physically or online so it's easier to read together. It has so much plot and so many answers for their questions

I remember how before this episode aired, when people figured out Tad Strange was gonna be voiced by the guy from Welcome to Night Vale, everyone was freaking out and thinking it would be a counterpart to Bill Cipher. There were so many drawings of people making him a purple square because someone from the crew had commented that Tad is "kind of a square". It was a whole thing. And then he turned out to be a 2 minute cameo of some random guy and people were floored LMAO

Tad Strange is voiced by Cecil Baldwin, who is the narrator of the podcast Welcome to Night Vale. Both shows actually released their first episodes on the same day, and they both focus on a town with a lot of weirdness going on, though WTNV leans more toward horror than Gravity Falls does. Both also have a lot of eye motifs, now that I think about it.

I think it's really funny that the people in the town still call Stan Stanford, since they have no way of knowing he's actually Stanley.

eric's face at llamacide was priceless. also, I've only watched the first couple eps of Inside Job (ran by a gravity falls writer and co-produced by alex hirsch), and the line about ronald reagan's masters could imply a bit of a connection between that show and this one.

So, the vibe I get is that Stan’s crimes are things he’s accused of or on the run from, meaning he’s an active fugitive from the law as opposed to someone who has already been tried by a court and had their debt to society “settled”. No idea if that makes any difference in regards to electoral laws though.

Fun little detail!! Gideon calls Stanley here 'Stanford' which makes sense cause no one knows Stan even has a twin. But this is how Stan knew Gideon was a fake psychic back in s1 when he called him 'Stanford' if he had been a real mind reader he wouldve known that his real name was Stanley

When the crew imprisoned Gideon at the end of Season 1, they intended to get a ton of mileage out of it in Season 2; but, for one reason or another it never worked out. With the endgame on the horizon, Stanchurian Candidate was the crew's last chance to do a Gideon episode. A deleted short titled Mabel’s Guide to Smiles would’ve seen her go to prison to cheer people up and there were plans of have an episode showing Gideon climbing the ranks of the prison. Likewise, there would’ve been episode where Waddles got sick and Mabel needed to break into prison and work with Gideon to the cure.

Rick is right that there was an infamous mayor in Canada who smoked crack. His name was Rob Ford and he was mayor of Toronto from 2010 to 2014, though he had been a city councillor since 2000.

Man, I love Grunkle Stan with all my heart. He can be a real asshole but he sure loves his family & would practically do anything to keep them safe. Like the man taught himself extremely advanced science to fix & manage a dimensional portal with only a third of the information needed to get his brother back, and pretty much managed it besides the last final part that was in the other journals (and even that part probably required a lot of baseline knowledge to implement in the first place). It took so many years for him to do, sure, but he stuck to it religiously. He could have just walked away. Taken Stanford's identity & ran off. But he didn't.

If you remember who founded Gravity Falls the election process makes a lot more sense. Well not really but why it's like that makes sense.

Honestly, other than the super plot/lore heavy episodes, this is probably my favorite episode. The jokes are so incredibly on point and it makes me laugh every time.

At least if you have the same mixture of imagination and… frustration as the people who named them. As for Stan not noticing he was being controlled, while Soos did - Stan was _expecting_ to stand befor ethe crowd and speaking whatever happened to pop into his mind, without a prepared speech (or any form of self-reflection), so it wouldn't seem incongruous to him when that's what happened. Soos, on the other hand, was raking the grass, when suddenly he was singing, dancing, and eating a pinecone. That's kinda _noticeable._

I have no idea what "burglebezzlement" entails, but I am intrigued.

fun fact, it is canon that Stanford Pines and Rick Sanchez met at some point during his time in the portal. The creators know each other and like to make a lot of references/cameos between the two series.

Really fun episode. Loved Stan’s clear resentment being set off when it’s revealed that the twins used Ford’s device, love seeing that Bud Gleeful can be just as heinous in his own right when he wants to. Also interesting to see just how far the twins will go, and Gideon even calls them out for possessing their grunkle just like he did. The ending was also ominous. Also, this episode was released the summer of 2015 aka the same summer that a certain orange evil POS started his campaign for President. A lot of people said how it would’ve been effective satire if Stan’s complete ineptitude at politics actually worked and got him elected - though obviously the show couldn’t possibly have known what was going to happen in the real world a year in advance.
