Awesome video! Straight to the point. You didn't talk about some stupid story for 5 minutes about how you needed more power. You didn't spend 2 minutes struggling to find the right socket for this and that. We don't need to see you remove every single rocker arm bolt. You kept it simple. This. I’m amazed how many techs don’t do proper engine bay prep prior to internal work. Takes very little time compared to dirt and debris falling down into the motor. Valve cover removal alone will allow dirt from hoses and harnesses above to just float right down into the heads and oil areas.

So I just used the dowel rod trick on a 2007 4.8 but not the way you are thinking. I had to put the engine on a stand and turn it upside down so I could remove the oil pan, windage tray and poke the lifters out of the way enough for the cam to come out. PITA the lobes do not go as far out as the journals on that stock 4.8 cam so there is no way to raise the lifters enough.

@cerberous741
@cerberous741 3 жыл бұрын
You can't do that on this engine. This not a 350. This is a 5.3 that is ls based. You have to remove the heads to get to the lifters. I do agree that he should have changed out the timing chain but it requires removal of the oil pump which requires the oil pan to be dropped.

Hey great video, I’m about to swap just about everything mentioned at 150k miles... I have a few questions just double checking here. 1: which way did you rotate cam sprocket when you were doing 45* turns? 2. Would you follow the same turning process on valve springs if you’re replacing lifters as well? Or just pull the whole cylinder? 3. Did you mean to say torque valve cover bolts to 106 lb in or 106 lb ft? Thanks for the great video - really awesome stuff.

I wish someone could tell me how to properly bleed air out of the cooling system on a 2011 Silverado 4.8L.
@BoBuilds
@BoBuilds 4 жыл бұрын
You need this kit amzn.to/33VsXnv Attach to reservoir, fill with coolant and let engine run at operating temp. Give engine some revs and let run until no bubbles are visible in the funnel

Excellent video only issue I have why go to all that trouble changing the cam and not installing a new timing chain and cam and crank gears I'm just saying everyone has a reason.

Need something like this for the VVT guys. Its nice to be able to keep that wide torque range but there isn't a ton of info on here about a VVT cam swap.

So I'm thinking of doin my 5.3. My question is the front cover, how do you make sure it's perfectly centered over the crank? Do you use the centering tool I've seen on the net? Also, is there a front main seal on the crank pulley? I need to do my rear main seal and seen vids where they use a tool to align the rear plate and get it centered. That's why I ask about the front. I've never done a cam swap but the more vids I watch,its boosting the confidence!💪 Thanks!

LS or Vortex? I have the LS4, and along with this, need the dod delete.
@BoBuilds

The crank pulley seal would be considered the "front main seal" ive never had an issue just torquing the cover down and install pulley through seal. A quick way to center is to wait on tightening the timing cover until the crank pulled is installed through the seal then torque timing cover. Some bolts may be tricky to reach tho

Just got me a ‘06 Impala. Every once in a while, when she switches to V4 mode. I hear the dreaded tick tick tick. So I am searching for a temporary fix till the DODD. The transmission is a little rough, and suspension is a little banging, but as smooth as a impala running across the savanna full speed. Is there anything else that I need to do while I’m in there?

WoW if I lived close by I'd have you swap my Z71 cam for something in-between stock and what was swapped as I prefer a sleeper. But Awesome Video! Awesome Step by Step! My only thing is I would have wanted my oil pump replaced as the stock unit isn't know to last. Other than that.. Thank You! 😊 Super Appreciated 😀! Eddie J. Long Island N.Y

Not necessarily 8 hours I’ve done several cam swaps and it typically takes around 4-5 hours for an inexperienced mechanic.

Welp, it’ll probably take me 6 weeks, $200 in gas running to the parts and tool store, 15 hrs on the phone with friends and KZfaq, $100 tow bill to take it to a garage and finally $1000 for the mechanic to fix my fuck ups that I should have never started. It’s going to run and sound great though! Excited to get started!!
