I totally needed this tutorial! I sing soprano in a choir and received my own mic this past weekend. In a critique from the lead soprano, she told me I needed to learn how to project my voice forward. Thank you for this valuable lesson.

About a year ago, a friend practically dragged me onto a karaoke stage, and I've discovered that I really enjoy it. But I want to get better; to get that jaw-drop "he's really _good"_ response out of the audience. I just discovered your channel, and I'm finding it extremely helpful... not just with singing, but probably with my speaking voice as well. I've always wondered why some people have such a sonorous, resonant sound to their speaking voice. I always ascribed it to the luck of genetics. Now I know differently. I will definitely be back for more. Thanks for doing what you do.

+phoenixshade3 Hi, thank you for your comments :) Glad my channel is helping you will be posting some more videos soon. To get that jaw dropping sound you need to connect to emotion completely, without fear of what people will think and have a well-balanced conditioned voice that is able to respond to that emotion. Then you will be amazing, singing will feel the best it has ever felt for you. Oh and it’s easy to say but very hard to do, getting there is a life long journey, but well worth it. I am still on that path and loving very step! Have a great day Vocal Coach Dylan

Thank you so much for this video coach Dylan, when I tried applying this to my singing I found it more easier and clearer to sing, and the most amazing thing I found is that my range amazingly expanded!!!! Until now I cannot believe that I can belt high notes with power and freedom while maintaining proper volume throughout a song. I know singing is not some sort of magic, but until now, I just cannot believe the instant transformation that happened to my voice. Thank you so much, you are greatly helping many people in their singing career more than you know even if these are just short vocal tips.

I'm teaching a young man of 33 yrs how to sing/work on his articulation. He has speech difficulties due to an accident that happened 14 years ago (nearly lost his life). I just love your presentations - I showed him the one on sirening and he really enjoyed it. I'm so glad I found your lessons on you tube.

His journey is making progress. His 'Bs' have improved greatly doing the sirening - and I'm getting him to do the same with the 'Ps'. I'm throwing together a bunch of phrases to say for him to enjoy. All the phrases are aimed at getting him to utilise his articulating muscles. I've discovered I have a talent that I did not know I had (I'm now utilising some of the skills I learned through Voice and Communication lessons several years ago).

Dylan,New subscriber, loved the video! I do have a question though. You talked about "forward singing coming from resonance around the lips." When I hum I can place the feeling or resonance in both my nose and feel it on my lips. However, how do you handle singing higher notes with your method. My sound naturally pings up higher from my noise and higher resonance chambers as I sing higher but still occasionally feel that my voice could be more "forward". Any suggestions? Thanks for the great content man!

Question : despite the resonance that a singer uses (like you show in your video about resonance and vowels we have different) will this forward placement where we feel the vowels stay the same ?
@VocalCoachDylan
@VocalCoachDylan 4 ай бұрын
think of the resonance as split, one part will always be on the lips or feel just infront of the lips and this will always be there in all vowels you sing. the other part of the resonance shifts around in your head, the more back top of the head with forward tone the more belty your voice will sound the more forward in your nose or forhead the thinner the sound with forward tone. hope that helps :)

catalyst Hi they should do the job, descending slides, sirens and held notes all in your comforable range are ideal for you. keep the range really small to start with, the example of me doing the hum near the end of the forward tone video are also really good for you. Keep it light and soft to start with, on the hum :) Have a great day, if you need any more help then please get in touch, Best regards Dylan :)

Not sure how to incorporate this with all the other lessons that teach to place the voice in the 'mask'.
@VocalCoachDylan
@VocalCoachDylan 4 жыл бұрын
Hi ya, thanks for the question. All sounds you make must have forward tone (Projection/Clarity) and the m hum is a great way for a singer to feel this forward tone feeling. No matter what sound you use. When you sing in the mask ( I use the NG for this) often students will start to sing in the nose this is because they are totally focused on singing in the mask and not keeping the forward tone. Think of it more like a balancing act, you have split the sound it must be partly at the lips and partly in the mask, this will give you a forward tone. record yourself down and experiment with m hum then sing, then NG mask resonance and then sing? which sounds clearer? Just play around with the mix of the two until you get a sound you like. A voice must have forward tone, as long as the sound is not swallowed or throaty sounding then you have enough forward tone. Then it's just a matter of personal taste as to how much you use. Hope that helped you? Dyl :)

Bradley Norwood Hi Bradley, work on singing at the same volume all the way through your singing, if you get this right at the beginning your voice will cut in and out of sound, that is totally normal, this balance is what you are learning to sing on, will try to do a video on this, for you in the future, also work on releasing more physically and mentally, again I will be doing videos on this stuff soon :) have a great day Vocal Coach Dylan

Bradley Norwood keeping the same amount of buzzing on the lips all the way through your song will help you do this, check out my video on forward tone, use the hum that I do in the video, keep that light buzz you feel on the lips, through everything and this will start to help your voice to find the correct balance. :) kzfaq.info/get/bejne/gMuKfr2JvKfLoZ8.html
