A good way to practice relaxing those muscles in the face is through meditation - and I say this from personal experience. I'm a beginner at any kind of voice training, but I found a lot of the tips about relaxing the muscles in the face very easy to do, because meditation also involves doing those things. I actually like to sit in half lotus when I'm humming, because it does wonderful things to the posture and the movement of air through your lungs too. And because I do both of those things - sitting in half lotus and relaxing my muscles - simultaneously each time, it's also kind of created a pavlovian reaction. I sit in half lotus, my muscles start to relax automatically. It's like meditation gives you the tools to entirely, and subconsciously use all of these techniques for humming before ever beginning to hum!

I totally agree. I think of singing as like a singers meditation mindset. All my work and teaching techniques are based on release which is all about letting go through the exhale. This is the secret and foundation to all singing. Unfortunatly so many singers get lost in technique that they miss this. Also very few if any vocal coaches teach it. I am the only coach I know that teachs this way. I know for a fact its why I get such amazing results form my students. its not a quick fix but it does give permanent, amazing results :)

@@VocalCoachDylan Agreeing with you on that one. I picked up the lyre recently, just looking for something to learn, and I really liked the idea of humming along with any songs I play. Your video was first on the list when I made a search and has been incredibly helpful so far! I'm also genderfluid, and this video has helped me to modulate my voice more towards the gender I'm presenting on any given day. Absolutely amazing results, I'll definitely be coming to this channel again

Question : despite the resonance that a singer uses (like you show in your video about resonance and vowels we have different) will this forward placement where we feel the vowels stay the same ?
@VocalCoachDylan3 ай бұрын
think of the resonance as split, one part will always be on the lips or feel just infront of the lips and this will always be there in all vowels you sing. the other part of the resonance shifts around in your head, the more back top of the head with forward tone the more belty your voice will sound the more forward in your nose or forhead the thinner the sound with forward tone. hope that helps :)

Why do my lip trills get stuck around a B4? I choke myself off even if I focus on keeping my larynx down
@VocalCoachDylan5 ай бұрын
The back of your tongue is pulling back. You might struggle to feel it so take your time. doing the raspberry will help you notice this. alternate between the lip trill then the raspberry over the problem area and you should notice if you are doing the raspberry correctly that its freer over that area. And a B4 getting stuck is often a sign that you didnt release correctly through your register as there should be a feeling of change around G#4 to A4. These are 2 things you can do that will really help. If they don't then the problem could be one of many other things. have a good one :)

Step two 3:54, all well and said, but this is not enough information to make me understand what do I have to do in order to to make that nice wiggling of the tongue. If I do those bursts, it's very different result, just air and spit. Could you describe how the mouth should be, should I purse my top lip against tongue, because it seems that in the video, the airflow comes through under the lip, but mine from above. I do have a stiff tongue, probably, and I need to work on that, but that's not the only problem. Thank you.

Hi Dylan, I'm a bit blocked on this concept of increasing my range using the headvoice mixed with chest. The problem I have is I can't relate the feeling of headvoice in my mouth and throat with getting any of the chest element into it. The feeling of pure headvoice seems much easier than chest when you go high but although I can do a strong headvoice it has no chest quality as I come down to where the top of my chest range is. Your demonstration of the mixed voice just above your chest range has a nice body to it which I lose as I come lower in my headvoice. I understand placement and the feeling of the mix in the notes below the limit of my chestvoice but I don't understand how to bring the head and chest together above my chest range. Your mix above the chest range had the easy quality of headvoice singing but had chest sound in there too, I can't connect with how to make chest elements while using the headvoice feel (internal feel in my mouth). Hope this makes some sense and could you offer guidance please/? Thanks
