Hi Dylan, Love your videos and in a few days I've already learned a lot! I'm an actor currently taking singing lessons. This video lesson really helped me to think about singing like I do about acting - learn the technique then let it go and think about the words and what they mean (in the context). Thank you! -Jeff PS and BTW: I would happily pay to subscribe. Your videos are both very informative and very entertaining.

+Vocal Coach Dylan > Wow, what a really fast reply - thanks. You must be an awesome teacher, your videos are very helpfull and cheering. Thanks for´em! I will try to remember that! Now I´m trying to teach myself how to sing with head voice without the weird "eeeing" and other creepy sounds and I´m trying slowly to teach myself how to not be shamed but be self-esteem because I only sing when I´m home alone and no one´s listnening :-)

Dylan! Have you ever considered an alternative career path - a stand up comedian? You made me laugh so hard!!! Oh, and it's a marvelous piece of advice you're giving here. It made me realize why singing for the public (i.e. my vocal coach or my friend) raises my stress level. It's because when I sing with emotions, and I really feel that pain or hope or love, I'm opening up like in a therapy session. I feel exposed and naked in a sense and because of that really vulnerable.

Hi Dylan , I'm a singer, i used to perform in musicals in the WEst End . I now run my own theatre school and i'm finding my singing lessons are getting very popular . I just want to say thank you for inspiring me through your vids . I love how you teach in a very practical and down to earth way . I've always used the lip trill, but none of my singing teachers in the past explained , Why ! so i just did it, now and then . Also if my students couldn't do it , i would skip that exercise , I didn't realise how powerful it was ! I'm now making sure all my students can do it and their voices are improving before my eyes and ears ! Also my own voice has stretched a few notes !!! Who'd have thought the humble lip trill could be soo helpful ! thank you again xx

+Stephanie Johnson Hi Stephanie, you are more than welcome, remember to also work on dark tones, to balance the voice. If you only do the lip trill the tone, can end up being overly bright. Oh and thank you for your comments on my video style, started the videos last year and tried to hard not to be myself, have just stopped pretending that I am not a little out there, and all is going really well. I suppose it just goes to show that you really should just be yourself :) have a great day, and feel free to ask any questions, as I have taught many teachers in the past. Best regards Dylan :)

Thanks a lot Dylan,thats a great lesson, People tend to focus too much on mechanical side, they just loose the soul of the song, and the very purpose of why they are singing. Ofcourse pitching is important but emotions make it a soulful song and listeners feel connected. Thanks Again.

hey dylan, do you have a tip on how to keep the throat open non stop while singing without it "escaping" suddenly in that strong or high note? or just in general
@VocalCoachDylan
@VocalCoachDylan 8 жыл бұрын
+David Viralesa Hi David, sounds like the vocals are relaxing to much on the way up. work on twangy sounds at the top end of your range so as to keep the vocals squeezed correctly. If you put yuor hands around your waist - just above your hip bones and just below your bottom ribs, as you slide up notice if it moves in suddenly as you go the the airy part of your range if it does then try to keep the sides out as you go up, this is the other main reason for the airness as you go higher. The throat closes as this happens as the tongue and jaw tense up to try and help. These two reasons are the main ones, but everyone is a little different, see if these help you. have a great day Voca Coach Dylan

@VocalCoachDylan
@VocalCoachDylan 7 жыл бұрын
Hi MaxxWill, that is i a very common fear, practicing slowly to start with on good technique over simple scales is a great way to build that confidence. Start easy then build up form there. A voice that breaks is a sign that the voice is not strong enough to do what you are asking of it - so needs more time to strengthen on that note or that the technique needs to be practiced more until the skill set is better. Hope that this helps Dyl :)

Other problem. You focus too much on the sound and not enough on the Words you are singing. Fake emotion is pathetic and if you aren't even aware of What you are singing how you can feel any Real emotion. So many things to do all at once. Hit the right notes with the right tone and volume. Feel every word, enunciate, on and on. And when you are out there you have to have it down to the point where it appears absolutely effortless. It ain't easy.
