Welcome to The Vet Show, brought to you by the Coach Robb Podcast Network. In this first episode, Coach Robb and Toolman Dan dive into the unique challenges and solutions for veteran motocross riders.
They discuss how the show will build on previous episodes to cater specifically to vet riders, emphasizing the importance of not being redundant and continuously evolving. Coach Robb highlights the significance of understanding the struggles vet riders face, such as balancing family, work, and their passion for riding, while aiming to provide valuable insights and advice.
The episode elaborates on the definition of a vet rider, generally considered to be 30 years old and above, who might still be competing professionally or just riding for fun on weekends. The hosts emphasize that this show is not limited to racers but is for anyone who loves motocross, regardless of their level of involvement. They share anecdotes from famous riders like Jeff Stanton, Jeff Emig, and Ricky Carmichael, who acknowledged the impact of knowledge and training on their careers, underscoring the potential benefits for the show's listeners.
Coach Robb also delves into practical advice for vet riders, particularly on managing time and creating effective workout routines at home. He suggests simple yet effective equipment like stretch cords and fit balls, highlighting their versatility and affordability. The importance of aerobic training over high-intensity interval training is emphasized, given the high levels of daily stress vet riders already face.

Thanks Rob and Dan! This is extremely insightful as to how much to train and prepare to train when dealing with the stress's of work, leading a family, and trying to fit riding and training in. I will be looking forward to hearing more!

Found the program interesting. At our age you just have to make time for what's important to you which makes for a healthy person and family. I'm hoping you get into training suggestions/specifics for older riders. I find mobility and flexibility to be the most important thing at this point in life. I suppose weights have their place but adding weight to poor mobility and structure can cause more harm that good. Thanks.

Im 56...triple vet...😅 Recovery timing or planning is probably my biggest strategy concern. Time for riding, racing and other activities is set with recovery being in place first. Diet, sleep and sunlight are also on that plateau of dailies that have equal importance.

Hey couch Rob, I’m a new listener but I’m loving it I’m a 50 y/o male that is coming off a full ACL repair. I race 2 hour harescrambles.and I’d love to hear your thoughts on how to repair and prepare myself for this type of racing as an older man. I’m 30 days away from my 9month mark and will be returning to the bike.

Thank you for watching and taking the time to comment! First and foremost, follow your rehab protocols to a T and get as many sessions in as you can to create stabilization the correct way. Then visit with a good massage therapist and get them to start breaking down scar tissue to reestablish complete range of motion. Ease into strength training with the guidance of your physical therapist. Once you have these two things dialed, identify your biggest opportunities for improvement on the bike (strength, endurance, flexibility, headspace, nutrition, etc.) and focus on that the lions share of your training time. Please keep me posted if we can help in any way.

Sleep!! I'm realizing at 55 how much it matters. I'm recovering from a pretty good concussion and the difference between a 8.5/9 hr sleep to less than 8 is astounding. It makes the most difference to my recovery over anything I'm doing right now.

10 years ago I was diagnosed with Epstein-Barr virus. Not a lot of good info out there abut this. I'm 60 years old and in good shape but still battle fatigue sometimes if I'm not careful. Any and all info you can share is appreciated.

Robb, I sent three emails with no response. You said to email for a program but I heard you say on Cooksey’s channel that you need to fill out an application and get excepted in. Not calling you out just would like clarification.
