Another great review of a good lesser known product. I did notice when you were doing the dual charge test at 1200 watts from the grid that the solar input icon came on when you turned on the external power source and went off when you turned the external DC source off. It would be interesting if you ran the same test using the slow charge AC mode and i would bet that it does support dual charging as it looks like 1200 watts is a hard input limit for charging for all sources.

It is really nice to have so many choices today of power stations. I remember when Goal Zero was the king but how things have changed. This was a fantastic review of the Grecell power station. What an awesome channel; glad to be a subscriber!

I've watched several of your videos at this point and I would like to make a suggestion for a video. Portable Power Station awards for 2023. You could have levels for entry/basic needs, medium needs, and whole house 30amp back up. Something a lot of the larger tech channels do each year which seem to be popular video choices. I like the spreadsheet idea.

As usual great work on your videos! This new power station seems impressive. I still don't understand why they don't include 2 or three extra 12V cigarette plugs for 12V appliances. Though I bought my Inergy Apex years ago before I got more knowledgeable about these power banks and learned how inadequate the old power banks are compared to the newer generations now, I use my Apex quite a lot when camping. With the two 12V plugs it allows me to run my cpap/bipap machine with the humidifier and a 12V electric blanket in winter or a fan during the summer at the same time. I own several brands like jackery and ecoflow and each has their uses but still they all lack the extra 12V cigarette plug that could be very useful especially with campers, RV'ers by including 3 cigarette 12V plugs so that you can hook up a 12V fridge/freezer/, a cpap, and/or a 12V electric blanket, or 12V fan. As an influencer in social media maybe you could insist and bring this up to the manufacturers. Inergy company has one on their flex system with just a DC unit that has 6 12V ports, but they still are behind the 8 ball when it comes to charging their units so I won't buy from them until they get better. Again thank you for your videos.

You could always get an adapter to use one of those 5 amp 5525 12V DC outputs above the 10 amp cigarette plug. Just keep track of your total amp usage. I've run my CPAP off one of those 5 amp outputs just fine.

I would love to be able to find a unit with UPS, but where you can choose to turn off ups or configure the max amount of power that can come through ups. For instance, I would love to configure my power station to pull no more than a total of 600w from the wall, using that 600w for either ups pass through or charge. One the power station side, the ac outlets would use up to the max the inverter supports.

Dual charging is table stakes at this point as most of us plan on having solar coming in at all times with our units and only want AC to kick in once below a certain SOC which should be user configurable.
@jasonbroom7147
@jasonbroom7147 8 ай бұрын
That's a good point, but this thing has very high input from both sources, obviating that need somewhat.
@ryanyoder7573
@ryanyoder7573 8 ай бұрын
@@jasonbroom7147 no it doesn’t. My AC200Max has 900 watts at 150 volts my AC500 has two 1500 watt/150VOC inputs so this thing is behind both of those. The AC200Max is also much older.
@jasonbroom7147
@jasonbroom7147 8 ай бұрын
@@ryanyoder7573 - Your AC200 Max has high solar and AC input. So does this unit. These statements are not mutually exclusive. Anything that can charge in around 3 hours or less, from solar or AC, is high input. If you had adequate "solar coming in at all times", then this thing would hardly ever need "AC to kick in". I'll also point out that many users, in fact most of them, don't use these devices this way, at all. Most of these units sit around, not hooked to any type of charging source, waiting for a power outage or a camping trip. Don't be so focused on your use case that you fail to understand the most common use cases.

Could you begin charging with solar...check the input power...the plug in the AC cord and see what happens. If you are inputing 1200 W from the grid, you should be able to see a bigger jump in input from just some hundred watts of solar at first, then adding the grid. Also, is there any selection for input source in the unit...reading the manual?

It should be all substance at that $1600.00 price tag, it should run a refrigerator all night.

Hi Mr. ReeWay... I've been using this GreCell 2400 every day since january 1. Running my garage fridge full time. i have noticed one design flaw: when i have the solar panels plugged in charging the battery, at the same time I have a power cord running to the garage for the fridge... when the battery gets 100% charged, the whole thing shuts off - which includes the AC part that is powering the fridge. That's not a good thing. So i have to unplug the solar prior to it reaching the 100%. Not that big of a deal I guess, but I wish there was a fix to this issue. Greg (garden grove, CA)

Thanks ! :) I try to do that in all of my Power Station reviews now. I'm sure there is some variability in testing methods and in the calibrated precision of the dB meters used, but I think the meter I'm using is reasonably accurate and certainly good for making comparisons to the noise level of other power stations.

If you had this unit at full charge and had it plugged into the wall, can you draw from the battery until it drops off and then automatically switch to grid power? What if you were at full charge and on solar panels with lots of sun, will the unit use the solar power first and then once dark switch to battery?

Just did a quick look and I'd say you are correct! Probably OEMd from the same mfg. One difference that I see though is the EBL only has a 1 yr warranty instead of 2 like the Grecell. But other than that, seems safe to assume they're identical under the hood.

I have a quick question. It looks like it would be difficult to plug into the AC if the plug was other than straight in. You know how some plugs have a small block attached??

Yeah...those spring outlet covers can be a little fiddly. I always keep a few 12" 3-prong extension cables around for that very purpose. Super cheap solution.

There is no "substance" in the cheap high frequency, transformerless inverter used in this solar generator. High frequency inverter are notorious for failing just after the warranty runs out and are no meant for powering high inductance loads like refrigerators, microwaves or power tools. Plus they can damage your when the MOSFETs fail. A much better option is to purchase a low frequency, transformer based solar generator. It will last far longer and won't damage your appliances when the MOSFETs fail.

Can you somehow use the power of your car to charge this up? If so, how would a person do that?

You van definitely connect it to the 12v car socket (aka cigarette lighter socket) and charge it that way. Typically pretty slow at only about 75-100W but it does work.

Would really help if you would read the manual BEFORE you begin the review.... It doesn't take that much time and the viewers will feel better about the review. For one example, not knowing what the MODE does, because you haven't even read the manual, is really unacceptable for a reviewer.
@mannys4036

not a fair comment; with all the functions of power stations, you cannot expect someone who reviews them to know every single detail. It is an overview, not a complete comprehensively perfect study. After all, he is not launching a shuttle into space. And can you assume he didn't read the manual BEFORE he began the review. This channel is excellent at giving great OVERVIEWS of electronic and solar generators. Calm down; no need to be so critical.

@@mannys4036 It has nothing to do with the complexity of the product...it has to do with doing some basic education of yourself before you begin explaining to the viewers. A teacher would be expected to read and understand the material they are about to teach....before they begin teaching the subject in a class. This is the same thing. I gave constructive criticism, which should be welcome here.
