Who needs more than 100 horsepower for a city car? You sound like a teenager who wants to prove he's got the biggest. It's incredible to see that in 2024, a guy over 40 can't see the potential of a car if it doesn't have 200 or 300 horsepower.

Back in the Eighties, all those famed hot hatches - Golf GTI, Escort XR-3, Peugeot 205 etc - had 110HP or so. The car companies' marketing departments have been consistently put out the message for "more, more and more"; this has to stop.

Those power ratings are comparable to most European ICE hatchbacks of a similar size, and that's what's needed in the marketplace, No reason to see this type of car with 150+bhp.

Hi. Thanks for your informative videos. I am driving a Hyundai i-10 in the city in Switzerland. 0 to 100 km(/h in 14 seconds. That never bodhered me. But this car is even narrower than the i-10 by 5 cm. I dont see the reason for that. All the best to You from Switzerland. I am looking forward to buy the new Inster. I love the practical interior.

I think Hyunadai hot the nail on the the head with the imster. The specs for what you get are amazing for the total package. For me the imster ticks off a lot of boxes for me for the interior amd exterior design, all in a small package design and a range with the top model that for me amakes this ev a potential great all rounder, and the size is great for the small European roads and still has range and power sufficient to join in highway and city traffic, compared to many higher horespowermetric EVs that are relatively big inside compromise more in terms of space in the rear seat leg space and heads pace interior and let's be real that in real world use you mostly don't have opportunities to really use all the full horsepower and speed with the preposterous 0-100 kph speeds without the greater chance of becoming poorer with traffic tickets for speeding. I still drive a Toyota aygo 2005. I really want to transition to EV, and for me the imster in this A segmented category sounds like almost a no brainer to me to move to electric, that is the ultimate goal eventually what we would want more people to transition to going forward and making sound financial and balanced decision what a best choice is. I think simply the doubt and slight negative presentation of the imster because of the limited horsepower is not doing the overall package and value justice, but I can understand to some degree one would perhaps some nippy characteristics for the so called traffic over taking specific scenarios. I think in that regard we should not forget that this car is electric with continuous torque. If I compare this to my current aygo, where with some downshifting I can do reasonable overtaking in the city and highway with only 69 hp with a 1,2 injection motor and 0-100 in 13-15 seconds, I think with the 0-100 time of 10 seconds and 1113 hp for the top model, for me that would translate to a very nippy car. And on top of that, it is an EV with a flat floor interior, despite the hyped claim of a "compromised" ice/ev platform, has amazing seating space for taller people front AND back, adjustable seating thatb I've only seen in some higher end models and not even Tesla has, to me makes this EV potentially a hidden gem in the compact A segment EV space, that to me makes a lot of sense as a practical good all round compact EV, even from the premiliminaryforstbllok demos is amazing! I think it will do okay with weaving in and out of traffic and overtaking in general. With looks I agree to small degree the rounded lights combined with the more meaner looking top and front lights looks perhaps a bit Frankensteinian, but at a second look, I think the design does grow a little bit and is interesting to see a kind of smart use of visual design of roughness combined with the rounder cuter looking lines for more balance. In that regard hyundai/Kia now I think about it does have this interesting combined design in many of their current EV vehicles in general. Interestingly quirky designs. But lately I can't help think hyundai and Kia are offering very compelling EV designs and practicality. I agree on the latter I hope the price is right when coming to market. Seeing the current offering of the Hyundai Kona and Soul electric secind hand price offerings I can understand the elecyric vikings suggested pricing of 15-16000 euro price at first glance. What I find rough in the 20-25000 euro new price offer in instant though is that a 20-22000 euro price, new, does sound reasonable, because on paper it quite fully specced, compared to current second hand B and C segment EV offerings of the same brand and in that regard even to European and Chinese EV offerings on paper in the same EV A and to some degree even B segment space. The imster, a very interesting and tempting A segment vehicle. Very surprising!

I have old Swifts and also find them adequate. California is considering remote public throttling of vehicle speed through gps controlled governors to reduce accidents. EVs would be the easiest cars to implement this safety feature. Other vehicles might have a speed transponder to report violators to law enforcement. That's the kind if thing California politicians dream up - tech can make it happen

Performance is adequate, not blistering. Faster than the new Suzuki Swift, slightly bigger boot, similar size. Might be a second car for a family, but for a young couple or an older couple with an “empty-nest”, I think it would do well as a main car here in the UK.

Don't agree Viking Sam. LFP allows 100% use of a small battery and it's more stable, you know this stuff. As for 11.7 seconds, thats better than the Seagull at 13 to 14 seconds, and I drove hatchbacks Insta modest for 3 decades. The back seat of the Insta will fit a 6ft 6 Jack in the back. So my big issue is no LFP and that will add to cost along with the overly fancy interior for a entry level car. I expect Atto 3 pricing for this because Hyundai, and that is a big ask

I think you would be wrong. When you purchase an electric vehicle, you must check whether the car is equipped with an NCM or NCMA battery with a high nickel percentage (90% or more). Among existing battery types, the ultra-high Nickel NCM or NCMA not only has the highest energy density and the best low-temperature characteristics but also the fastest charging speed. Moreover, cost efficiency, i.e. price per unit volume/weight considering energy density, would be better. Due to fundamental technical characteristics, LFP batteries are not suitable for electric vehicles that require a high C-Rate (high current charging/discharging). So it is not stable in such high C-rate environments. Instead, it is more suitable for ESS (Energy Storage System).

A used one of these in a couple years will make someone very happy as their first car. We absolutely need affordable EVs for oil independence. I think this might have the potential of what the Kia Soul has done for Kia, but for Hyundai's EV division. Its got personality, ok specs, great practicality, affordable, and not Chinese. You have to understand that most everyday car buyers (non-enthusiasts) don't have the luxury of choice. They primarily go on price, and if its 'good enough' they will buy it.

In some countries, like Australia and USA, many people think that a car has to be at least over 2.5 metric tons, 500hp and 5 meters long, to transport their body. I have my drivers license for over 50 years and never ever had the need for more than 100hp to overtake someone. The ORA Cat is around €35.000 in Europe. The price prediction of the Inster is around €25.000. So everything you say in this video is absurd.

I like it. At only 4-5 ins longer than my Spark EV yet it has more room. It needs the Sparks 140hp/327lbft motor for sub 8sec 0-60 times. The design is OK, front 3/4 view reminds me of a PV544 Volvo and other angles I find reminiscent of an old Dodge Omni/Horizon and some Chevy HHR.

We need more choices in the city hatchback end of the ev market. Australia gets too many expensive large suvs and pickup trucks. But the price will determine if the Hyundai Inster can compete with Chinese brands. This small city car segment has been abandoned by most car brands when it comes to Australia.

I think Viking has misread the family car market. He wants a big SUV so he can put his and his sons' bikes in the back, and have top-end acceleration. I believe that most families want a city runabout (ideally EV) that has ENOUGH power and range, not top-end. This Inster EV is one of the first cars that has enough, and is also cheap enough to attract mass-market purchasers. Maybe I'm wrong. I'm also interested in what other people think, as that will dictate the car companies' future EV plans.

Having seen a review where the driver’s seat was set at 6’3”, was easily able to sit behind that position in the rear so it’s a bit of a tardis when it comes to passenger space for four. As for the non earth shattering power, it’s a citycar so a little less relevant and definitely not dangerous as that’s where it’s going to spend most of its life - horses for courses 😎

Inster could corner the market as one of the first under 25000 euro cars in Europe, now that the Chinese competitors have been hit with tariffs. Many people are waiting to buy an affordable electric car. The first brand to get there gets the sales and those people are off the market for years. NMC is a bit old-school, but a livable solution considering the low mileage city environment and big enough battery. Even if the battery only lasts 1000 cycles, it's still enough for most customers.

1:30 - That's not particularly underpowered; it can travel at up to 93 mph. It's intended to have adequate power for the speed limits in many countries, and to be an affordable small car. The biggest problem I can see with those specifications is that it can only recharge on AC at 11 kW. That's abysmally low today, when AC recharging at up to at least 43 kW AC 3-phase is available. It should be rechargeable at 22 kW AC as a minimum. Tesla fall into the same pit with their low AC recharging speeds. Even our old Zoe with a maximum of only 50 kW DC recharging can recharge on 3-phase AC at 22 kW. The DC recharging speed of the Inster is fine, however. And the retail price is too high for what is being sold.

They change the names in different markets... I guess it's supposed to appeal to the locals. Sometimes I think the original name is actually better. But they probably have focus groups that tell the marketing teams what names they like and what names they dislike.

This is too small for what Americans want. However, I could see Hyundai bringing a Kona sized Ioniq 3 to North America down the line.

It will still cost $50,000. Not going to sell to the masses. Just look at the electric Fiat 500. They are not selling in North America.

I am disappointed by the video. Not everybody wish an overpowered car, far from it. Overpowered cars demands stiffer suspension, special, and expensive, tires, led to multiple unnecessary reinforcements in the motors, etc... And, personally, I suffer from "lead foot syndrome" and love to floor the accelerator. And hate when I can't because the car is so fast that in seconds I have to stop because it becomes dangerous. No comment about the cooling technology for the battery, nor the heat pump, nor the voltage of the V2L.

Im generally an admirer of Kia/Hyundai products, lately a few of their products look like they are styled by someone with a guide dog! This one does, i have a design background, the poor mix of shapes and clumsy crease lines are a big turn off. BYDs and others look great, often having great European designers as well as better range and more power.Like many who live in the country,i will not till the cars have 600kms of range and the charging infrastructure is better
