Traditional greek orange pie with syrup! So so yammy!

This recipe is AMAZING! I made it yesterday. My husband (who is Greek by the way) loved it and asked if I could make it again around Christmas when his parents will come to visit us from Thessaloniki

Portokalopita (Greek orange cake) is truly amazing. I have my own special recipe version that I carry from a Greek grandmother. It's so good that people in my family, outside family, friends, many people in my work environment are still asking to make it, or asking me if my birthday comes soon :D. One of my most prized recipes. Love Greek cuisine. Not only truly delicious, but so diverse and filled with secrets.

My man, I love the look of your food and your teaching style. You've got some real personality, as well as an undeniable flair for cookery. Actually, I have some Greek blood in me too (my family, on my grandfather's side, is from the southern portion of Cyprus), and learning to make some of the Greek classics is one way for me to familiarise myself with my roots again. For me, your recipe here is amongst your most mouth-watering, and one thing's for sure, I'm gonna be noshing on it real soon! I first tried this cake in Greece and loved it. Was sursprised to find that it was made with filo pastry! This is such a good recipe and everyone loved it. Cake turned out really moist and just like the one I had in Greece. I reduced sugar in both the syrup and cake as I usually prefer my dessert less sweet. I reduced the sugar in the syrup by half and would still consider it a sweet dessert. Also, I recommend piercing the cake(found this tip in other recipes) to help the syrup soak through the cake.

I are Portokalopita every day when we visited Greece in Mykonos, Crete and Santorini and after making Akis recipe last night this tasted on par if not better than what i was eating in the aforementioned islands. I will be making this again to share with friends. @Akis Petrezikis keep up the great work.

oooh I discovered this cake last week in Naxos on holiday. And had it almost every day - totally addicted. I couldn't work out the unusual texture - would never have guessed that it's basically a custard with dehydrated file crumbs in it.

Had the best one kefalonia island innporos called Olive Garden and Eleni made lemon also. Im Serbian and knew immediately those were phyllo sheets we call them kore! Now I see the recipe is the sheets😅 delicious one of the tastiest desserts! Bravo you cook and bake nicely and nice looking man!

I was preparing one type of it, was ok till I tried one in bakery shop in Θεσσαλονίκη, superb taste and texture. So I found your video, and seams that's it. Will try it. Ευχαριστώ!

This recipe has become my siganture dessert, for the decoration i add orange slices on the top before putting in the oven, and I cook for 1h-1h20. The oranges on the top get some colour and look fantastic. I also use half the sugar and its still sweet!

hi Alex i live here in Chicago and although I am not Greek there is a big community of Greeks in Halsted avenue lined with Greek restaurants. I have never heard of this dessert but I watched this video and I got so hungry. I am going there an I am sure they have this dessert. There is also a greek grocery in Lawrence avenue so I will buy all the ingredients there so I can make one this weekend. Your show is awesome and I have been watching. Btw I did already the pork chops with potatoes. Thank you very much.
