Oh thank you! I always think people get so bored with 'tours' so avoid doing them if I can. But when I'm really busy they're an easy video to make.🤷‍♂️

Thank you so much! I'm glad you enjoyed it. Unfortunately diversity comes at the cost of specialism, but I'd get bored growing the same things.🤷‍♂️

Lovely video as always😊 i think the plants looks great compared to how much time u been away/illness you have. Health always comes first, u can always replace most plants later, it was a great tour of ur green house. It always surprise me how u can have so many different kind of plants under one roof😮. Where did ur impatiens go? Keep up the good work. Stay healthy 😊

Yeah I think they just do better without me! 😂 I try to avoid doing many tours even though they're the easiest videos to make - I think people soon get bored with them, but perhaps I'm wrong. One Impatiens rotted over winter - I cut the other back to prevent the same thing happening to it. That one survived and is now growing strongly again, but it's up high so I accidentally missed it out in the tour!

Hi Geoff, nice to see you back in the greenhouse. You were saying that the pelargoniums do better under potted, I presume that applies to geraniums too. That would explain why my cuttings, which are very over potted , won’t flower. They are in full sun and kept on the dry side.(learned my lesson of overwatering) and out of 5 pots only one has flowers. If you have any other suggestions, I’m all ears. Thanks for the tour, I enjoyed it a lot.

Thanks Renate. Are we talking 'hardy Geraniums' here? They should only take 3-4 months from cuttings to start blooming. Sounds like you're doing the right things with them - maybe it's just an immaturity issue yet?

Hi Geoff, pelargoniums look great, ‘Georgia’ gorgeous. Dendrobium is on my wish list to try, and ooh the Drosera binata, really want that one. So far I seem to really like Nepenthes and Drosera, and later will try the Pinguiculas. Today I inherited an absolute monster of a Syngonium ‘White Butterfly’, my neighbor said it was too big and out of control. Tomorrow will try to straighten it on a trellis and take tons of cuttings. Oh have you ever heard of a Gongora galeata orchid? “ Hello Plant Lovers” you tube site showed up with it, I had never seen one - the flower stems are curly and hang down, very cool. Ok hope you are doing ok, sorry this got so long! 🌱🌿🪴

Had chance to watch the whole video now. The glasshouse looks great as usual. Your plants look really healthy. I’ve been surprised how well my begonia did in the unheated glasshouse but they don’t look lush. Love B. Connie Boswell and don’t mind the leggy look… I quite like seeing the stems.

@@Grow_Up_Man55 Totally defoliated but coming back now, albeit slowly. It needs to be re-potted now I think (same pot for four years!)

Yeah same here - but that's impressive for a Begonia to go so low in temperature, defoliate, then make a come-back. I wonder how many folks throw them away at that point, thinking them dead?
@GlasshouseandGarden
@GlasshouseandGarden 3 ай бұрын
@@Grow_Up_Man55 I was worried it had died but stems were firm so I left it to see. It was fine. We had a much milder winter this year compared to the previous one, and the glasshouse is in a sheltered spot and well wrapped. Also the plants were dry (which I think helps most plants). They would not have survived outside, or even in my more exposed, un-bubble wrapped glassshouse.

@@GlasshouseandGarden Yeah it's the combination of cold and wet that kills most plants off. A guy in Australia told me he has Beg. longiciliata down to -6°C over winter with no problems - but it's very dry with low humidity.

you know I've gotten very close to adding some Begonia to my collection, I'm still not sure I want to go down that road. I did buy a Spathiphyllum mint "Platinum Mist", which is unusual for me because I'm not really into Spaths or the mint variegated plants, but I like that one for some reason.

I find it tough to decide what to grow. I was all in for one genus at one point, but then I get bored easily and there are so many fabulous plants out there. I suppose this is one (of many!) reasons why my channel will never be super successful - as I'm not niche enough. You should try Begonias. I'd love to see what you bring to it. And Pellies.🤷‍♂️🤣

@@Grow_Up_Man55 I think we tend to grow what we do well with and there is experimenting with some other plants to see how they will do for us. I've bought a couple of Homalomena, despite the internet horror stories about trying to grow them well. Mine seem to be doing well at the moment, should they flourish, I might get some of the more expensive types.

Hi. The plants look really nice. For the plants that get growth distortion when you spray systemic insecticide, have you tried a soil drench instead and observed the effects?
@Grow_Up_Man55
@Grow_Up_Man55 3 ай бұрын
Only when there's a soil-dwelling pest. To be honest I don't know if a soil drench results in systemic action - you would think so, but it would be a useful thing to know. (Update: According to Chat GPT it DOES! So using it on Streps should provide protection within the media and also in the leaves. Who knew??! I would also expect the same distortion though.)

Thanks for the update, I always look forward to them. Autumn Ember is a great begonia, I started a bunch from leaf cuttings. Very easy! Using a rooting hormone you'll get baby leaves in about 2 1/2 months. They will root without hormone in about 3 to 3 1/2 months. Their leaves change color with the seasons. I used to grow pelargoniums years ago, just started growing them again recently. I need more space Geoff! Recent got a 2 Roger's delights and a few others from a local garden center. All regal types. We too on in the U.S. northeast have been getting a TON or rain. Way too much. I keep saying we're reverting to either England or the pacific N.W. I want a good 4 week drought! Nice Cephalotus Geoff, I'm re-potting mine currently. Every time I re-pot I lose a few traps but they quickly start growing new one's fairly soon after. Good luck with the operation and here's to a speedy recovery! Tom (AKA Tommylovesthetwins on instragam)

Hi Tom! And thanks for the plant updates - really interesting to hear how things are going with yours. Let's hope summer improves things for both of us. I'm finding the insulation is so good I'm having trouble keeping temperatures in there down - something I rarely have to worry about. I'll just have to layer up with the shading.
