This year in 24 hrs I went from being fit and active, walking at least a mile a day, to barely being able to reach the bathroom. 6 werks in hospital, double pneumonia, bloot clot in lung and a dodgy heart valve! (Btw we did meet once at the NOE orchid meeting).

I’m happy that you have a diagnosis for your health issues. Sorry you had to endure the pain. I know what it’s like to feel like you are in a TV EPISODE OF HOUSE until the doctors figure it out. Get the right ones and things work out but many don’t find a good fit or it takes years of searching to find good care. I am blessed that I found care team who worked with me. Best wishes for a healthy happy future, Geoff😊 lots of people care for plants to help in their self improvement journeys. Now using some of my tropical plant care skills to start seeds for extra food in these trying times….

Just yesterday I thought about you and what was going on. I went through a time where I had so many surgeries I asked them to just install a zipper. I think we get a kind of a “ongoing never ending serious medical issue” PTSD. Combo of pain and fear is brutal. I’m glad things worked out in a much better way this time. Good to have you back

Thanks Lucy! To be honest, if the low fat diet enables me to manage the conditions then I'm happy. Surgery isn't always the answer as it can just lead to more problems as I've found to my cost. Not that there was any alternative in any of my 3 surgeries - but if I can delay it then I will.😁

Aw Geoff. Thank you for sharing your health struggles. As someone who has a chronic pain condition - in my case, Rheumatoid Arthritis - I believe it’s so important we normalise chronic illness struggles. Mine has kept me from making a video for 4 weeks now. It’s high time I made a video about it, like you have. For context, I just turned 47yo and I have zero plans to age gracefully. Best wishes for a speedy recovery from the gall stones. 💚

Thanks that really helps. I have RA too but fortunately the weekly injection of Benepali (a biologic) keeps it under control and I'm pain-free in that respect. I know others aren't that lucky. I hope you manage to get at least to a steady state without much pain - if any!

Sorry to hear of your recent health problems Geoff, you are so right about being positive and in the moment. I had a bit of a hiccup in 2020…two broken arms (freak accident) and Covid contracted in the hospital. Thankfully the arms healed, Covid was asymptomatic…I wouldn’t know that I had it if the hospital hadn’t diagnosed it. So I counted myself very, very lucky. As you said nobody knows what is around the corner! Wishing you well with your health and looking forward to catching up with your plants very soon 😊

Geoff, glad to hear it wasn't another bowel blockage. I've never had gall stones but I DID have to have my gall bladder out on valentine's day of 2019. I was having some pain and after a HIDA scan the doc said it had to come out. The gall bladder when outputting bile is supposed to release 40-45% of it's contents, mine was only putting out 19%. The biopsy of the bladder was negative for cancer (Whew!). It's arthroscopic surgery so 4 small cuts and it was really no big deal. One day surgery. The following year near the end of August out of nowhere my left lung collapsed. I was sitting down reading a book when it happened. They call it a Spontaneous pneumothorax. They shove a chest tube in you like a meat thermometer (NO drugs or anything) and operate to fix it. NO FUN. Spent a week in the hospital for that. It sucks getting old don't it Geoff?! I'mm almost 66 years old by the way. HANG IN THERE buddy!

I empathize deeply with your struggles, Geoff. Experiencing pain can be overwhelming. I went through a similar transformation a decade ago due to a spinal injury, and I've grappled with thoughts of ending the pain permanently. I agree that when pain consumes you, it's hard to focus on anything else. Thankfully, I've found relief in cannabis. While it doesn't eliminate the pain entirely, it provides a distraction long enough for me to manage my daily tasks, surpassing the relief offered by pharmaceuticals.

Thank you for sharing this. My husband was in the hospital last year with an abdominal issue never fully diagnosed, now hes having issues again and i am suspecting bowel blockage. I will renew my efforts to get him to his doctor! Can i just say, ive been watching your videos for awhile now, and if it's about a plant I'm not particularly interested in i watch anyway because it is like spending some time with a person you like. Videos like this are like that too. Good luck and i hope you continue healthy now

@Grow_Up_Man55 4 ай бұрын
Aw that's lovely to hear, Katherine, thank you! And I hope your husband finds a solution to whatever is causing his problem. If it's a genuine bowel blockage, then it gets increasingly worse over a 15 hour period - till he'll be vomiting faeces. That tends to be the clincher of the diagnosis - before the scan confirms it. But like I discovered, not everything that feels exactly like a bowel blockage is a bowel blockage! Good luck to you both.

Thanks Michael that means a lot to me. Sorry to hear about your stones - I wasn't even aware they were a thing until this event. Hi Geoff. I'm really sorry to hear you've been through the ropes again, especially so soon after your last appalling episode in 2022. It all sounded so awful last time and the wait in ER just compounds everything. I may understand a little though. Last March I spent a month in hospital because of a gall stone stuck in my liver duct. Whenever I ate it was followed by excruciating pain and eventual vomiting of everything. Since I'd had my gall bladder out in my 20s it took them a while to diagnose. I lost a lot of weight and got knocked down the operation waiting list because of my ability to fast (to avoid pain). So many arguments with the nurses who tried to get me to eat because I was prescribed morphine. They just couldn't understand how awful that pain would be until the morphine kicked in. Anyway, may that episode stay far behind me and may yours stay far behind you too! Incidentally, this was the first issue with gall stones for me since having my gall bladder out 30 years ago so I highly recommend it! I really wish you all the best. Pain is no joke. Take care.
@Grow_Up_Man55
@Grow_Up_Man55 5 ай бұрын
Thanks Rachel I really appreciate this - and it gives me some hope that removing the gallbladder might go some way towards solving these problems. I'm worried about causing more adhesions, and of course that there are other consequences to removing the gallbladder. I'm guessing your gallstone was there from before they removed your gallbladder? I've just an MRCP scan and am awaiting the results to see what to do next. It would help enormously if I could have these discussions with the surgeon I saw in the first place, but these days that seems like from another era - I see someone different every time and invariably they've not read my notes! I'm really glad you appear to be back to full health again and look forward to your Borneo videos.

Yes, the issue of opening scar tissue is very real for you. Normally gall bladder removal is done by keyhole surgery though. Just to clarify - event though your gall bladder is remover you may still get a stone.@@Grow_Up_Man55

This is what happened with me. New stone after my gall bladder was removed 30 years ago! Incidentally my GP said he had never come across a case of stones forming in ducts when the gall bladder had been removed by conventional surgery like mine (not key hole). So comforting to create a discussion thread on some doctors forum somewhere 😂😂

That's incredible! You're a medical enigma! I recall feeling really miffed when told the cause of my first blockage was only present in 1% of the population, and only 1% of those people ever had any trouble with it! It's like, why couldn't I use my 'improbabilities' up on winning the lottery, or writing a best-selling book?? I suppose if you get really really philosophical you could say we've already won the lottery just being here and now.🤷‍♂@@GardeningatDouentza

I am very sorry for all the suffering you have been through. I personally suffered from IBS my entire life. I found that I would get completely blocked up by fiber. I went on a carnivore diet two years ago and I am completely cured from my IBS. I really believe fiber was the root cause of my issue. Many people with Crohns have gone into remission on the carnivore diet. Please take a look at the Kentcarnivore channel. He had ulcerative colitis and eventually lost his colon due to the typical recommendations of high fiber and veggies. He is trying to educate others so they do not have to suffer his fate.
