Interesting facts about the ending: Adachi's laughing sprite is seen exclusively in the Accomplice Ending. He enjoyed your betrayal more than even the 2 murders and the cat and mouse game that's been going for a year. And he's going to hang it over Yu's head forever. Also his Arcana stays as the Jester instead of turning into the Hunger. Probably because Yu also lied to all his friends, betrayed the point of the game (catch the killer) and doomed the world to the Fog of lies all because he didn't want to arrest Adachi.

Green Scorpion, as someone who finished Danganronpa, I’ll say this: Sayaka may have plotted to have Makoto be a scapegoat but she loved him. During the story, she and Makoto talked about how there were time she wished to talked to him but never had the chance to because of Sayaka’s idol status. Her regrets are somewhat shown in the dying message. Sayaka loved Makoto so much that she had faith he’ll “save” her, let her escape to find her bandmates. However, she never planned to kill until the motive videos appeared, pushed her to the edge, and Makoto said to calm her down, and I’m paraphrasing: “I’ll get you out of here myself no matter what happens.” She may play to win (as she told Makoto in the story), but murder is not in her nature. Kyoko said to Makoto at the end of the case that Sayaka failed to kill because she hesitated and that Sayaka was trying to save Makoto; whether it’s from herself or the killer is unknown. During the story, Sayaka said in her perspective to live your dream you must keep pushing or working without having the time to breathe or hesitate. Hesitation killed her in the end. It just feels sad that she died first and she happens to be my fave Danganronpa girl.

And his reason is...pretty depressing. Being a denizen of the future ofdarkness, should future history change, he, and everyone from the future, cease to exist. Even in the 5th special episode, where he betrays you AGAIN, you cant help but feel a bit of pity for him. He simply follows Primal Dialga's commands to keep history unchanged not because he's malicious or really all that evil. He's just scared of disappearing.
@demi-femme48216 жыл бұрын
Other people are talking about this, but the twist from Gates to Infinity is great as well. Allow me to full set the scene. So, you and your party go and venture forth into this legendary dungeon. When you get to the end, you meet Kyurem. Kyurem is usually not portrayed as very good. The people of Lacunosa Town stay inside after dark for fear of being EATEN BY IT in Black and White. Kyurem, however, seems like a relatively nice guy. He gives you treasure and then sets you along your merry way. Afterwards, however, you start to have dreams of a Hydreigon chasing a Munna. Now, Hydeigon is pretty scary, and it's Ghetsis' signature Pokemon. On the other hand, Munna is rather cutesy, and we see one getting mistreated by Team Plasma (which is your first indicator that N and Ghetsis' messgae of "free the Pokemon" isn't actually what Team Plasma was made to do), so you'd typically think of Munna being innocent. Munna then messages you, telling you that the Hydriegon wishes to bring destruction, and you beleive her. However, you are eventually separated from your party and find out that MUNNA was the bad guy all along. You then bump into Hydreigon, who is actually pretty nice and cool. The two of you go through a dungeon, eventually getting out in order to get back to your place. Then, you get jumped by Kyurem and Hydreigon DIES. TL;DR Not only does Munna betray you, but so does Kyurem. Edit: the Read More function wasn't working, so I added this.

To be fair Ace Attorney actually did kill your assistant in the beginning. Sure it's the second case and not the first one but it's also the first time you get to investigate and theres about an equal amount of time spent establishing Mia as your mentor as there is spent establishing Sayaka as your as your assistent. And Ironically in both cases your _real_ assistant/mentor is revealed in the same chapter (Maya in Ace Attorney and Kyoko in Dongobongo)

Good that you are feeling bad for what you did at number one. There are dozens, if not hundreds of actions i dislike. But the one thing i hate the most is, without a doubt, betrayal. Maybe it's because i was betrayed several times in my life, even by people i considerd to be friends since my childhood. That's why the number one deserves it's spot. I never played Persona (i need some sort of Guide to get into the Series), but betraying the own comerades? I'd rather die than that.

Riku's betrayal in the first Kingdom Hearts really to this day hurt me, (and it was kinda understabable , thanks alot Donald! >:( and problably he wasn't warned of stranger danger for trusting the likes of Maleficent and Ansem), but atleast at the end he realized his horrid mistakes and helped save the day and after finally accepting that he needed help from others, you can see in the later games how much Riku is willingly to go and redeem himself. And you see that by the sacrifices he will make to protect and save his friends (especially both Kairi AND Sora), to restore the balance of the worlds with the damage Xehanorth has done, not to mention giving advice to others not to cross the line, admit your mistakes and accept help from others as he did because after making those bad decisions and what he went through, he knows that once you sink pretty low, there's no easy way to get out or if you cross that line way to far, there's no longer a way out at all.

here's an idea for a countdown: Continuing element month with Light and Darkness. OF course some rules. Like, the characters have ton actually be wielding Light and/or darkness/shadows. It can't just be "THE POWER OF GOOD" or "Evil Magic" dark doesn't always have to mean evil. Think Lux (lol) and her light magic, Sora(KH) is way too versatile and never SPECIFICALLY uses Light magic in combat, Symmetra has hard light constructs, and Fetch from inFamous Second Son has NEON light. As for Dark, think Zed (and maybe Kayn) from League, Zato-1/Eddie from Guilty Gear. ACTUAL darkness/shadows, not just evil magic or something.

Personally for me, the most personal and disheartening betrayal I've faced in video games (SPOILERS FOR INSOMNIACS SPIDER-MAN) Was Doctor Octavius(Doc Oc) literally everyone whose not been living under a rock since ever will know Doctor Octavius is a Spider man villain. Everyone knows he's evil-especially me being the comic book nerd that I am. So right when Peter said his name I KNEW what was coming, I SAW what was going to happen from day one. Yet, the Doctor was such- a good man. He was willing to keep the secret about him knowing Peter was Spider-Man even from Peter himself. He was a considerate and respectful boss-and overall just just a refreshing moral support. Yet I began to see how he was neglecting his health, that he was becoming obsessed, how a chip on his shoulder was consuming him- and before I knew it everything turned into one hell of a slippery slope! But I'm not talking about the roof scene with the Sinister Six. Oh no, he just betrayed Peter in that moment. It's when he unleashed that disease onto the city. Allowing children, women, and men alike to be exposed to the virus. In that moment he truly stabbed EVERYONE and EVERYTHING HE STOOD FOR IN THE BACK. That wasn't about helping people, THAT WAS ABOUT SOME SELF-CENTERED AND SELF-RIGHTEOUS VENDETTA. In that moment he truly become Doc Oc, so high off his obsessive arrogance and petty grudges that he backstabbed the man he once was and all that he believed. He betrayed Peter, he betrayed the world, he BETRAYED HIMSELF.

Honorable mention for me: Arthas from Warcraft. The prince who tried to save his land from the undead but got more and more consumed with revenge, and then went on to become the servant of the Lich King and the very person who destroyed his kingdom (and another in the process). And then, after he merged with Ner'zhul to become the Lich King, he betrayed him because he didn't like being manipulated. And, to go further than that, he tried to kill off his own remaining humanity so that he would be free from any feelings of guilt. So, in a way, he literally betrayed himself.

I'd have to say my two personal favourite betrayals would go to: 1) Master Li from Jade Empire, for similar resaons to Dickson. Seriously, it takes the wise mentor trope and flips it on it's head. 2) Kreia from KOTOR 2, where even after the betrayal happens, she's still helping you to an extent, because it all paves the way to getting what she wants. Though you're never certain what that is. But what can you expect from one whose name is Darth Traya "There must always be a Darth Traya, one that holds the knowledge of betrayal. Who has been betrayed in their heart, and will betray in turn."
@KeybladeSoulLord6 жыл бұрын
Wonderful countdown as always, Oscar. I must admit, I'm shocked about some of those entries. Here's what I can say about each of your entries: 10- I'm happy you put that one there. I was expecting more for Wheatley to be the one to take the list, but yeah, both GLaDOS and Wheatley deserve to be there, since they did both help you go through the testing, and when they're in control, they were blinded because they had the power to control the facility. 09- I agree with you there. Dickson was like a father to Shulk ever since the beginning, and believe me, I was one of the people who liked Dickson for being Shulk's father figure, his tech mentor and he was the one selling the party Anti-Mechon weapons that wouldn't need to require the Monado to use enchant on it whenever Shulk isn't present in the party. So when it was that moment where Dickson betrayed you, I was shocked, angry and sad because of that. I wanted to just punch him in the face for what he did. But It was at the end, where after you fight him, you actually see Dickson feel proud of Shulk for getting this far. He admitted his lost and before he died, he was proud of Shulk. Dickson's betrayal was a huge shocker, but even I felt like crying the moment he died. 08- I haven't played Dragon Age Inquisition, nor do I plan to, but to see someone you admire, someone you felt like wanting to be a good friend to you, betraying you is just heartbreaking... especially when you're the one who caused him to do so. 07- I've seen this before. There's someone who admires you, someone who wants to help you in any way, but when it comes to friends and family, that someone choosing family and turning on you affects us harshly. But can you really blame that person for doing so when the person who they consider family was nice and caring towards them? It's kinda similar to Fire Emblem Fates, where you're forced to choose which family you fight for and which you fight against, and that is a difficult choice, even if you chose to side neither and find another way. 06- Alright, Villains betraying Villains is a common cliche, a lesser villain turning out to be a major villain. But when it's done right, it can be downright jaw-dropping. And Dimentio has done it so well, it puts Kefka's betrayal feel inferior, even if Kefka is more dangerous than Dimentio since he did destroy the world. 05- Call of Duty Modern Warfare was the only COD game I've played. But I've known of Sheperd's betrayal and oh my god was it a jaw-dropping moment. This shows that when Call of Duty does something right, it works wonders. 04- Jesus Christ. I've heard of Danganroppa, but I never knew it was this gruesome and terrifying. I mean these people are being forced into a game where everyone is forced to a game where people are meant to kill or be killed, where the killer will be executed, and only one person survives. I'm officially afraid of this game now, even though it's a mystery game and not a horror game. 03- This is just amazing. I've played MGS 1 to 4, and I'm always admiring Solid Snake for being such a great man. Even though Naomi betrayed him, even though she infected him with the FoxDie Virus, even after doing all that for revenge for Frank, AKA Gray Fox...Snake forgives her. And seeing that continue into MGS4, where Naomi does her best to try and help Snake, she knew it was too late for Snake and seeing him getting so old in such a short time really filled her up with regret. 02- I knew that phrase "Would You Kindly?" would be disturbing in Bioshock, and seeing that the one who betrayed you is the one you're following orders from, really makes you think that is following instructions the right way. 01- Jesus Christ...I haven't played the Persona 4 games, I've only seen the anime adaptation, which does make me want to play the game mind you. But having Yu, as in you, choose to help the true culprit of the case, having Yu choose to hide the evidence and the game punishes you for it in the most horrifying ending, where all your friends are disappointed and you pretty much doomed your town... that's... a very painful feeling of satisfaction. You complete the game 100% and you're treated with an ending fit for a backstabber...which is definitely not the Yu I imagined from the anime adaptation. I'm honestly shocked that the game makes you choose to do something like that.

Personally,I feel Magolor is a damn good example of a betrayer. You been workin' with this guy to fix his ship,go stop a dragon,get the crown he wants,and..... He turns out to be a backstabber who planned this since he was shot down by Landia,and now tries to rule the universe. Real Smooth,ya Kinder Surprise Egg!

Few more: System Shock 2 - Shodan Sure, you'll see it coming from a mile away, but it does still have an effect since you've been technically working with her this whole time in order to take down a common enemy. She's been giving you all of the upgrades, guided you through the ship so you could survive, just so you could kill her most troubling enemy. You knew she'd betray you eventually, just not when. Spec Ops The Line - Captain Walker's Denial of Reality "It takes a strong man to deny what's right in front of him. And if the truth is undeniable, you create your own." You're not betrayed by other characters. You're betrayed by the main character, who turns himself into an unreliable narrator without necessarily truly intending to. Or he sort of does as he desperately seeks for a relief to his anguish, but has to eventually come to terms with the fact that he only made things worse. Dark Souls - Everything is Wrong, and You're the Pawn Linking the fire will save the world? No it won't, it's the entire reason the whole world got into this mess in the first place! The whole system wouldn't have even formed if Gwyn hadn't completely disregarded the balance between light and dark and instead just made light the most dominant thing ever. Light that eventually fades. Not that you can necessarily blame the guy for it, since dark is shown to be corruptive and dangerous, but again, we've never witnessed light and dark co-existing in balance. All knowledge, all understanding of the world itself, all of it is based on speculations and biased assumptions as no one has truly examined how everything truly works. And those who have only lost their minds. Everyone and everything is wrong, and all everyone wants to do is to manipulate you, call you as the "chosen undead" when there's thousands of your kind. You're not special, no one is a chosen one destined to become the new king. You're nothing but a pawn for people of different sides, both of which are blind to the overall picture. Link the fire and burn to ashes, or become the dark lord. Neither of these are choices you made yourself, and both of them play into the hands of others. You've been played.

I was expecting Xenoblade at #5 or higher... difference in opinion I guess. Still a phenomenal list Oscar good on you, I needed this to cheer me up from my own betrayal that happened this weekend. A fitting countdown but the good ol GS never fails to make me think and smile. Much appreciated 🍻
Pffft! Okay, now I gotta see "the Room"; I can only imagine how Oscar would've reacted to this hilariously bad movie XD

I don't know if this counts, but Oersted is a pretty tragic betrayer, but not for the reasons you'd expect. He gets betrayed by everyone else after being tricked into killing his king, gets betrayed by his friend resulting in Oersted trying to save his love, and then she betrays him after the best friend dies saying she was hoping for the friend, the supposed bad guy, to save her, and then she kills herself, resulting in one final betrayal where Oersted, with nothing left to believe in, betrays humanity itself to become Odio.

My favorite list you have ever done. Included my favorite villain ever, Dimentio, my favorite series ever, Danganronpa, and the number pick was perfect. There were some other choices I would’ve gone with, like Master Van from Tales of the Abyss, Who betrayed Luke by having him destroy an entire city with Miasma killing everyone, Chiaki Nanami from DR2, whose betrayal is so conditional that she literally has no choice and gives herself up, Ace from 999 who is just a real nutcase and also came out of nowhere, or omg Detective Fulbright, who comes so out of nowhere that I’m shocked it didn’t make the list. Either way, that was a fantastic list

Hey Oscar, here's a huge betraying moment that I have experienced. It's a game from the Sega Genesis called "Streets of Rage". If you want to play the game, then I suggest avoiding reading this. If you have played it or don't mind getting spoiled for it, then go ahead and read. This betrayal was actually a shocker for me when I found out. I played Streets of Rage 2 and 3, but I never managed to play the first game. So, due to my curiosity for the story, I decided to play it out with my brother, since the games do have Co-op. So we all fought together side by side and fought off many street gangs who are rampaging the streets. You fight all the way to Mr. X's office and he gives you a choice: join him or fight against him. If you choose to join him, he rewards you by pressing a button that leads you back to stage 6. If you refuse, you fight him and defeat him, to save the city. However...the biggest and most interesting twist that happens in Co-op mode... is if one of you chooses to join him, and the other chooses to fight him. We actually made a mistake and each of us picked a different option, but we went through it anyway. Mr. X will make you fight your partner and prove your worth, and it's a fight until one of you two lose all your lives, and with no continues. And if one of you win, Mr. X will give you another choice to join him or fight him. If you refuse to join him, you fight him... and if you beat him, You become the crime boss. WOW! T...This is just wow. Can you imagine yourself playing with your friend throughout the whole game, only to betray him as you reach the final boss, and then become the crime lord? And the worst thing about that is...You're the one who betrayed your friend. Your friend and partner trusted you to stop the crime lord, and you chose to betray him right at the last stage. You betrayed the police, the city, and your own partner, and become the new crime lord! AND THAT'S FROM A GAME ON THE SEGA GENESIS!!! This ending is one of those endings where this choice will make you feel like a complete and total betraying bastard.

My pick would probably be the big betrayal of Baten Kaitos: Eternal Wings and the Lost Ocean. Not only is it incredibly shocking, it's also foreshadowed A LOT throughout the game. It's too great a twist for me to spoil here, but it's definitely a betrayal that deserves more recognition than it gets.
