Cheers to Greg for doing such a great job on all those jazz cd's in the 90s i.e scofield there hardly any compression and there's so much dynamic range, really breathes.

Man this was like hearing Myself fighting to master some peoples music. Great insight and the Bax is hands down one of the best pieces of gear I use. It’s very simple but does so much that it’s just insane.

Mixing: yeah, I use a headset, for warmth, I also dance to my own songs during mixing, it's a lot of learning and mastering sound too, I like this video, thanks! :) cheers!

low end may be a problem when you are doing a million dollar lady gaga track that has to sound good i a car and outdoors , but for everything else is no problem .

Low end is the most essential part of pretty much any song. So what you basically say is it can sound shitty because you assume nobody cares? You should stop making music with your attitude, music deserves better.

***** you mean on any song listened on tablets and phones with or without headphones that by the way have no low end , most of them ,or TVs and radios . There is no low end. I never said that low end is not important , in some genres its all that maters . But problem , no ,90 percent of songs on YT have no low end control , example Genesis COCO, done in Fl in a day . millions of views , no low end control other then volume . talked with the producer him self . "stem mastering" has never really made sense to me. it's a mixing job, not a mastering job... you're just using less stems than usual.

Much easier to master with stems. Simple example: Runs the vocals through one compressor, the instrumental through another, push as much as you want and don't worry about one single compressor changing vocal levels because it has to take care of the full program material. Want to saturate vocals but not the other parts of the song? Use stems. I bet you do everything digital, am I right?

Jim Dough what you just described is mixing not mastering. the term "stem mastering" is an oxymoron and we should stop using it.

I run stems through hardware, I wouldn't bother mixing with hardware, pretty much nobody does nowadays. As most mixes are done ITB now stem mastering makes perfect sense.
