I watched him return to the 14th tee at the Old Course St Andrews to give a young fan his autograph and a couple of golf balls. The boy arrived at the tee just too late to see him and his caddie shouted Greg back. He was really great with the fan. I bet the wee boy will never forget that moment.

I watched Greg hit these towering 1 irons that would start out low and end up as high as a short iron. All landed in a grouping the size of a back yard swimming pool. This was at PGA West, warming up for a skins game with Faldo, Couples, and I think O'Meara. Amazing ball striker and a real man's man.

To be deadly honest with you, his attitude, class and the way he conducts himself for kids to look up too makes him a greater golfer and better name in the sport than most players who have won more majors than him. Its about attitude and behaviour that makes you a successful person who is well liked. I love the man and love all things Greg Norman if i'm being dangerously honest with you!

As a guy with a few years on Norman ( yeah I’m old now) I could really relate to his ups and downs. In ‘96 I turned on the TV later Sunday afternoon at the ending of the Masters.... I then stared hitting and shaking the TV violently....surely Norman wasn’t losing... the TV must be broke.... In all seriousness, he’s wise and he shard some powerful stuff

Greg Norman was playing at Troon in the Senior British Open in the practice round on Wednesday, he had just been beaten in the Open at Birkdale by Padraig Harrington, he played a stunning shot just beyond the pin at the 14th now my now wife and I watched what happened next from roughly 140 yards further down the fairway, the put looked like it had just slipped past the hole for a tap in so I applauded, it actually missed by a foot and went past 6ft. The worst thing in golf is when the player looks at you (look is probably the wrong word) more like glares at you, (still see it today) and there is only you, your partner and a Marshall, and the Marshall said I bet you wish the ground would swallow me up. I was rooting for him to win at Birkdale, I just choose the wrong put to applaud.

I watched the last round of the 96 masters too. People say Norman choked badly, played awful etc but I didn't see it that way. Everything that could possibly go wrong, did go wrong. Sometimes that happens in golf and in life.

I used to watch the Open as a kid, and who did I want to win the tournaments? Greg Norman, Seve, Trevino, the real characters who played with emotion, win or lose.....that's box office

that's the good stuff in life. it's like Andy told Opie "it don't take courage to be a winner,.. it does take courage to be a good loser". the way he handled that loss will be remembered far longer than any win could ever do. good on you, Shark.

People forget he went like top 3 in like 4 or 5 straight Masters 86-90. He should have been a dual Masters champ already by 96.

Greg Norman isn’t even the tallest guy. He’s 6’0. But the guy had the body to play football had he wanted. Just a big, powerful dude.

I was always impressed with his ability to deal with his inadequacies. So many times he was just not the man he had to be and it must have been tough. Few could not find better things to do than something they will only ever be second best at......at best.

Amen Greg. So many players today have shown an absolutely deplorable lack of character in losing...and sometimes even in winning, which honestly can be even trickier. It crushed me every time when Greg lost. The 96 masters nearly leveled me. When Venturi said the words he did after Norman congratulated Faldo, it really got to me. I was proud of him too, because Norman wanted that tournament soooo badly. It was almost literally his white whale. Norman was a misunderstood player because he was a private person and even a bit insecure. So when players today don't act maturely, I give them the benefit of the doubt because it is such a microscope, but time and again, certain players come up short. I won't name em, but we all know who they are. On the other end though, Mickleson, Fowler, Rose, Scott, and several others have picked up Greg's legacy and respect the game and the arena. Well done, guys.

Greg's message at the end (about legacy) really resonates; I've watched quite a bit of professional football and basketball over the past 5 years with this in mind, and the number of top athletes you see who are sore losers and/or ungentlemanly players is quite honestly shocking. Almost inevitably when a player loses their temper, they go on to also lose the match. Other players walk off without shaking hands, or they'll resort to dirty tactics when losing - none of these players is setting a positive example for the younger generations to follow. It is disappointing and disgraceful - Greg has a point.

I am not certain why it should matter to me that he lost the Masters . A multi millionaire living the dream but it still puts a knot in my stomach when I watch the replay of that round ! I was just good enough at golf to fully understand how cruel this game can be ! Credit to Faldo for playing well enough to not allow a poor performance from Greg but that even makes worse for me since i have never been a fan of Faldo . There will never be another player in golf lose as many key tournaments in such bizarre fashion . Mize , Tway , Frost , are you kidding me !! What people forget is that Greg was not the only one to lose big leads at the Masters and all the other majors. He battled and battled on a terrible physical day for him, as opposed to someone like Van Der Velde at The Open.

I absolutely loved watching this guy play. He could hit it a mile. I struggled with him whenever he would get so close and not win. But he always handled himself with class.

The 1966 US Open was worse For Arnold Palmer, had a 7 shot lead going in the back 9 in the final round. He lost in a playoff the next day, Palmer was never the same after that, before he died Graham interviewed him, when that was brought up, he looked to the ground and had sorrow in his eyes, at 87 he remembers it was like yesterday. Norman should have it least 5 majors, it just wasn't in the cards for him, thats all. Mize and Tway made sure he be stuck at 2 majors.

A remember Norman mentioning a moment when after a round.He over heard a top ranking golfer refusing to pay his stand in caddy for the day.Norman confronted him demanding he pay his caddy.Due to it becoming a scene in front of other golfers...he paid him.Norman never said who the golfer was pure class.

He shot high number that day his ball was spinning like crazy was 6 up. He handled it well.

What people fail to realize is in order to be considered a choke you have to be in the position to Win. Greg Norman Won his fair share. The people with all the negative talk can only dream of being in those positions.

If you put a flag out on a pond Greg would hit at it, that was what made Greg my golf hero. Having never meet Greg it's kinda odd but he almost got me at least beat up in the pro shop at the Belfry circa 91' when he made a charge on the final day of the British Open (I think I recal) we had it on in the Pro shop. I was naive and young, a MASSIVE door staff member from the night club "Belair" talked me into betting with him, He said "£1 says Greg misses this putt" from around 15 foot. I backed Greg as I alwasy would, Greg holes it. The guy was not happy so next green Greg is on for a birdie again, the guy says to me double or quits, I agree, Greg drains a 30 footer, the guy is even less happy now as folks are also laughing about it.... Next hole Greg is on the green again for another birdie attempt, the guy says double or quits, so I agree, by now I am starting to hope against my normal instinct for Greg to miss, he holes another put, now we are all laughing (me nervously) how absurd it is and how Greg would do this from time to time. Now the guy is Super Angry, forget the few pound this guy is not happy he states something about killing me which I will not repeat looking 100% deadly serious. Everyone's laughing and banter stops and the shop goes silent, some folks leave. Next green.... double or quits, I agree and now I am praying Greg misses....... Greg misses I thank the gods (sorry Greg) the doorstaff guy tells me I am lucky Greg Missed. I am glad to say I never saw him again.

I have a corner of my house with golf themed pictures...one of them is of Norman and Faldo embracing after that final round. You honestly can't tell who won or lost. Norman had to feel sick, but he didn't want to ruin Faldo's moment, even though it was his third green jacket. Let's not forget two other things here: they were never warm and fuzzy with each other; it was a very bitter rivalry. Imagine losing your most sought after prize to one of your least favorite people, especially when they already have two others. Also, Faldo played impeccable golf that day. 67 at Augusta is incredible. Norman was just off by a smidge all day but that course compounds even the smallest of errors (starting with the approach on 9). 78 is real easy to shoot if you're slightly off. Greg always put the game above himself...he attended each and every press conference in his career...even the ones after such heartbreak. And was always gracious..and never deflected the blame. You don't see that as much these days. Let's also not forget that he has many interests and achievements. The guy can fly helicopters and planes. He's scuba dived under the polar ice caps. He's a restauranteur, has a clothing line, wine label, a myriad of course architecture credits and other accolades too numerous to mention. Also, he's probably gonna live to 120 with his fitness level.

Always loved Greg, but in ‘96, when Faldo fought through to be his playing partner on the last day, I knew Greg was in trouble. Faldo had the hoodoo on him, like Fergie on Arsene.

We were skiing in Aspen and it was the week of the Masters. Norman had a six shot lead going into the final round. I finished early to get back for the final and walked into the house and turned on the tv, a picture of Nick Faldo came on and underneath his photo the caption said "the leader" I turned to my wife and said it must have been rained off they're showing an old match. With that I turned off the tv and went into town for a drink and a meal. I only found out that night, when I turned on the highlights to find out what had happened, to this day I still can't believe Norman doing what he did.

In all honesty, he should have won it back in 87. After the Bob Tway shot during the previous major (86 pga), Nornman found himself again at the tee of 18, sunday afternoon (just like the year before) needing a birdie to win the Masters. Usually, this kind of things in sports end in "redemption"...in fact, Norman did all perfect...a huge drive, a good aproach to give himself a 20 ft birdie chance....and a ridiculously perfect putt.......but when that putt did not went in and 45 minutes later, Mize holed that 145 ft aproach....you could tell that it was not meant to be for Norman, ever. Add the 93 pga when his birdie putt at 18 went out...and the 68 corey pavid put in brutal conditions to win the USOPEN 95...

I knownTiger Woods had bailed after losing, Tiger did not have much character, I mean good character.
