About the chant :
Dies irae, (English: “Day of Wrath”), the opening words of a Latin hymn on the Last Judgment, ascribed to Thomas of Celano (d. c. 1256) and once forming part of the office for the dead and requiem mass.
The hymn ascribed to Thomas of Celano contains 18 rhymed stanzas (17 tercets, 1 quatrain), to which a later, anonymous writer added an unrhymed couplet, ending in “Amen.” The impressive plainsong melody to which the hymn was sung was used by composers of religious works from the 16th century onward, either in its original form or as the basis of a polyphonic composition. Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Giuseppi Verdi were among the composers of religious works who wrote original music on the text of the hymn.
The original melody had strong appeal during the Romantic period and was used, often in the form of a parody or to suggest the supernatural or the macabre, in many secular compositions by Hector Berlioz, Camille Saint-Saëns, Ralph Vaughan Williams, and other composers.

Latin Text :
Dies irae dies illa
solvet saeclum in favilla
teste David cum Sibylla
Quantus tremor est futurus
quando judex est venturus
cuncta stricte discussurus
Tuba mirum spargens sonum
per sepulcra regionum
coget omnes ante thronum
Mors stupebit et natura
cum resurget creatura
judicanti responsura
Liber scriptus proferetur
in quo totum continetur
unde mundus judicetur
Judex ergo cum sedebit
quidquid latet apparebit
nil inultum remanebit
Quid sum miser tunc dicturus
Quem patronum rogaturus
cum vix justus sit securus
Rex tremendae majestatis
qui salvandos salvas gratis
salva me fons pietatis
Recordare Jesu pie
quod sum causa tuae viae
ne me perdas illa die
Quaerens me sedisti lassus
redemisti Crucem passus
tantus labor non sit cassus
Juste judex ultionis
donum fac remissionis
ante diem rationis
Ingemisco tamquam reus
culpa rubet vultus meus
supplicanti parce Deus
Qui Mariam absolvisti
et latronem exaudisti
mihi quoque spem dedisti
Preces meae non sunt dignae
sed tu bonus fac benigne
ne perenni cremer igne
Inter oves locum praesta
et ab haedis me sequestra
statuens in parte dextra
Confutatis maledictis
flammis acribus addictis
voca me cum benedictis
Oro supplex et acclinis
cor contritum quasi cinis
gere curam mei finis
Lacrimosa dies illa
qua resurget ex favilla
judicandus homo reus
Huic ergo parce Deus
pie Jesu Domine
dona eis requiem Amen

@The Larger E The church uses ecclesiastical latin, not vulgar (common) latin, which was used for everyday speech. The only differences are the pronunciation. The ‘c’ in ecclesiastical latin is sometimes pronounced as a ‘ch’ sound, usually if the next letter in a word is an ‘e’ or an ‘i’.

Flamers Films I get how you feel - sometime the temptation to go full St. Nicholas on them is strong when they disrespect our Holy Mother. But even still they are our seperated brethren in Christ by way of baptism (in most cases valid as deemed by the Church) and we should remember to pray they recieve the graces to turn away from the errors of Luther, Calvin, Henry VIII and their ilk.

Just a little comment. The Pope John XXIII was not who stopped with the use of Latin but Second Vatican Council (that is, approved by the plenary of cardenals, bishops, patriarchs, etc, after after the analysys in commission). Even so... this song is deeply inspiring.
@filipschweiner1989
@filipschweiner1989 3 жыл бұрын
@@nestor6565 It was neither John XXIII not the II Vatican. Quote from Vat.II document Sacrosanctum Concilium: "36. 1. Particular law remaining in force, the use of the Latin language is to be preserved in the Latin rites. 2. But since the use of the mother tongue, whether in the Mass, the administration of the sacraments, or other parts of the liturgy, frequently may be of great advantage to the people, the limits of its employment may be extended. This will apply in the first place to the readings and directives, and to some of the prayers and chants, according to the regulations on this matter to be laid down separately in subsequent chapters. 3. These norms being observed, it is for the competent territorial ecclesiastical authority mentioned in Art. 22, 2, to decide whether, and to what extent, the vernacular language is to be used; their decrees are to be approved, that is, confirmed, by the Apostolic See. And, whenever it seems to be called for, this authority is to consult with bishops of neighboring regions which have the same language. 4. Translations from the Latin text into the mother tongue intended for use in the liturgy must be approved by the competent territorial ecclesiastical authority mentioned above." As you can see it does not abolish latin, but unfortunately the modernists in the Church used this documents as an excuse to get rid of latin completely, something that Vat. II never demanded. That is why the proper interpretation of the council in accordance with the Tradition must be enforced.

@cristopher wong Maybe some ancient pagans (the ones who later converted to Christianity), but as a whole, non christians loath Christ, Christianity and everything that reminds them about the issue even if it is truly Christian or not.

So many magnificent things have been lost. So many churches close down forever. People turn their back on Christianity. It saddens me to think that the day may even come that the only true faith will vanish from Europe all together. Nothing can ever replace it. Then civilisation in Europe ends.

Our society would be extremely civilized and disciplined, God-fearing, law-abiding and righteous, and it would be prim and proper. Compared to this sinful mess that is the modern-day society.
