I finally install my most favorite part from Grimmspeed, the legacy gt top mount intercooler. It is so much bigger and looks a million times better than the OEM intercooler. I love the way this turned out, hope you enjoy the video.
Thanks for watching and subscribing!

Great video man. I am surprised there is hardly any videos out there of this intercooler. Are you happy with it still?
@SWSpeedCo
@SWSpeedCo 3 жыл бұрын
Yeah its wierd that there's not to many videos, I am very happy with the intercooler, there is not much of a difference in lag, and I haven't had to many issues with heat soak unless I'm at the drag strip. Any other time I touch it and it's ice cold. And it will work reliably at 25 psi for when I go big turbo. Definitely worth the money

@@SWSpeedCo That’s awesome. Good to know. I have been stuck between this and verticooler, but I think this is the one I’m ordering. Grimmspeed always has nice stuff👌.

Looks awesome! I'll be getting this car/same exact color as yours very soon.. My first Turbo Subaru ever, can't wait! How much are they usually? Do you get any HP gains with this bigger intercooler? Subbed!

I paid $5000 for mine in 2019. But I have noticed they have appreciated slightly since then. The intercooler doesn't give you more power unless you tune it. It allows you to run either higher boost, or higher timing due to the reduced intake air temperature. Thanks for the sub hope you enjoy the content

@@SWSpeedCo Yeah, I have been searching for sn XT Forester locally for the longest and nothing has come up so when I saw the Outback XT, I jumped on it. Your videos content is great, already seen some of your AutoX drives. In regards to the price, I meant the Intercooler. Mine came with this ugly blue one I might swap out eventually..

New legacy owner here was wondering what the blow off valve would even do if you had stock turbo and no tune? How would you recommend finding leaks with no boost gauge?
@SWSpeedCo
@SWSpeedCo 2 жыл бұрын
At that point it wouldn't really be worth it it, the stock bov works good till about 18 psi. To find leaks you can make a pressure tester, and use smoke or just listen for air escaping. There are quite a few ways to do it and some good KZfaq videos out there

@@SWSpeedCo How hard is is to remove that amber plastic? or is it pretty straight forward?
@SWSpeedCo

The hardest part is separating the lens from the body, but its more labor intensive than anything. I just used a heat gun and plastic pry tools I got from harbor freight to warm up the glue and once separated the plastic just pops out if I remember correctly, there might be a couple of bolts I'm not sure. Then once it's out I used ptex black silicon to glue the lens back to the body

Man I bought a grimmspeed intercooler kit advertised to fit on my 09 wrx. They had it on a 05 legacy. The splitter won’t fit. Trying to find a splitter now but everything says 09-14 sti. Is that the one that I need?
@SWSpeedCo
@SWSpeedCo 5 ай бұрын
I would think that would be the one but I'm not 100% sure. The wrx and the sti are on the same chassis so the spliter would bolt up. Weather or not the intercooler for the wrx is the same as the sti I'm not sure. I would contact grimmspeed.

@@SWSpeedCo Thank you for the response. Grimmspeed wasn’t much help when I asked about if this splitter would fit because it looked different. They replied with yeah it would but it’s an older design. lol. I go to install and it turns out to be for the legacy. The one rep flat out said “I don’t know “ When I asked for help. I had to call and speak to someone else. I do know the sti cooler is definitely different but the splitter should be the same. I’ll have to call them and hope someone knows what they are talking about. lol. They even told me they would not sell the splitter alone. That I would have to buy the whole kit.

@@SWSpeedCo Yeah unfortunately I got confirmation that the sti splittler for same year wrx won’t work with my wrx. You can’t find that splittler anywhere. I don’t understand that at all. At this point I’m most likely going to have to sell it because I can’t do anything with it. This experience for me has not been great with Grimmspeed. I thought they would help a customer especially when I’m willing to pay for the splittler but why should the splitter only be available for the sti? It makes no sense.
@SWSpeedCo
@SWSpeedCo 5 ай бұрын
I just looked and it seems like the intercooler is the same for the wrx and legacy gt, but the spliter is different, so you would need to by the 09 wrx splitter. I would try contacting them again and see if they will let you buy just the splitter.

Dude, keep your tongue in your mouth ! Ha ! Ha ! (I use to say the same thing to an old friend of mine. (Who's been dead a long time now. RIP Billy Victory) You remind me of an old childhood friend of mine (Billy) back in the 60's & 70's who always use to stick his tongue out too, whenever he was concentrating on something ! Lol ! Other than that, I'm looking to start building up my 07 Outback XT, starting w/my stock VF46 (Until I can swap in a VF52) and a larger intercooler.(EOM intercoolers are junk) Thanx for the great memories & the info.

Grim is overrated and overpriced I have to say. Rev9 has one for $200 and that’s more than 1/4 the cost. Besides it fitting slightly awkward it does its job and has been for over 5 years now in my lgt, it’s bigger than the grim also I believe.
@SWSpeedCo
@SWSpeedCo Жыл бұрын
I haven't run one of those styl intercooler but I can tell you the grimmspeed is definitely larger. The rev 9 is a thicker and full aluminum version of the oem intercooler just like the perrin or avo intercooler. The grimmspeed is expensive but it gives you cooling performance close to a front mount while keeping the response of a top mount. Also if you upgrade your turbo you either need to go Fmic or grimmspeed tmic, those are really your only options because aftermarket turbos are all sti style that require a hose outlet vs the bolt on style of the vf40
