I replace soft screws, especially small Allen screws, for screws of higher strength e.g. 10.9. in some secondary applications. The reason is not the tensile strength but that the hexagon does not wear out so easily. Yes, you can't have enough bolts and nuts. I tend to build longer versions but the shortening is annoying...

seems i answered this comment before, but some inexplicable reason it no longer appears.... hmm ...youtube..?? anyway, when you go to the catalog listing in the grizzly website, there is a tab that has all the documents for the machine you're looking at, even some of their older machines that are no longer being offered when you put in a search query in the search bar. below the main picture of the machine, just click on the "product links" tab and it will open a small drop down menu showing the various docs like spec sheet, parts list and manual and then also a link to buy parts. the parts list is where i got the info on the bearing and bolts and so i bought those items here in europe and brought them with me when i came home to put the machine together. in addition to swapping bearings and bolts, i opted to chase the threads in the machine where the fasteners were to be swapped and i was glad i did. many of the threaded holes were pretty rough and would have chewed up any threads on the bolts thus rendering them useless.

hey Carlos, thanks for watching and commenting!! this machine is based on a fairly old design and so there is no other way to change the spindle speed other than by the belt pulleys. it wasn't until sometime in the 50's or 60's when mechanical variable speed drives became available. it would certainly be possible to outfit this machine with a VFD, but given the low horsepower of the motor it would probably also be a good move to put on a different motor at that time. so the only button on the machine that governs the power output of the motor is an on/off switch

well i did come into an Albrecht chuck for a whopping 15eur...lol.. the only drawback is that it has a B16 taper (a morse taper 2 in short form) so i'll have to make a new spindle shaft with a B16 taper.. finding used one on the european market with J33 taper...yeah..
