I tried it. I used a different type of pepper. Couldn’t believe so many sprouted. From the ripe ones, I got about a 90% germination rate in around a week. I tried some that weren’t quite as ripe. Those sprouted as well but it took nearly a month for them to sprout.

The last time i touched chilis like that, my hands were so spicy... i had to soak them in ice water for 12 hours straight.... people, you gotta wear gloves when taking seeds out. Thanks for posting this video!

Where i live in Australia, i cant get a wide variety of chilli's. Mainly just jalapeno's, cayenne, birds eye, jabanero's at the local grocery. I wanted some used in traditional Mexican cooking, like ancho and guajillo's. I ordered some seeds online, but i also planted some seeds i got out of whole dried chilli's i got from a spice packet. They took a long time to germinate. I was watering a bare pot for weeks. But of the 50 or so i planted, about 7 have grown. Amazing how resilient the seeds are, as i assumed the drying process would kill them at a certain temperature. Its lucky, as some of the chilli seeds i bought on ebay didnt germinate. In fact, none of the poblano's (a green poblano is called an ancho after drying) i ordered on ebay germinated. But i did manage to germinate some seeds from store bought jalapeno's peppers, even though they were harvested green
