The first point of human interaction is absolute key! Building relationships with people is what will get you paid work, I found that networking and making the effort to contact people (especially face to face) significantly increases your job opportunities esp. At the beginning.

Just finished my 2nd year as a pro photog. I managed to land around 130 gigs this year which was crazy. I forgot how many I did in 21 but was nowhere close as I was still rocking a Canon M50 lol. This year I am planning on splitting this business into two separate focuses and create a second brand for the drone/commercial work that I do.

So to give business advice today, how much of the 6 figures is KZfaq ad Rev, sponsors, merch and prints sold to your KZfaq fan base from photo skills your learned while freelancing vs operating a photography business, getting paid gigs, and shooting for other people? In 8 years the landscape for building almost any business has changed a lot, especially photography.
@jamesskintauy67732 жыл бұрын
I would be shocked that he is including FB ad revenue in his figures. Getting to 100k in 3-4 years in a straight photography business is entirely possible with a good plan and hard work.
@amarierlizana52632 жыл бұрын
@@jamesskintauy6773 yes, 100%. My comment wasn’t on the possibility of someone becoming a photographer and making 6 figures. I also never mentioned Facebook, and listed 3 other sources of income that would all add up to that 6 figures. My comment was about this specific video and this specific photographer.

Im 42, started videography when I was about 12. Started paid work when I was 16 filming skateboarding/bmx and making selling footage/films for skate brands. My first year when I was 17 brought in £66.000 now a lot of that was because I had been in the industry and skated all my life so knew people to get me the work and my best mate was sponsored by Vans so I was just travelling and filming year in year out. Apart from 2020 because I fully stopped everything for Covid and just chilled that year when I was 17 was my lowest income year. I have no social media to speak off, I don't sell prints/books/bullshit luts and presets/trash merch. What I do is pretty simple: in 2005 I switched to a single contract that I made for all clients, when I get hired or someone want's something done I literally sign a contract to say that the person/business owns everything I do even down to the the media storage. They have 100% rights and effectively I NDA my work, but, here's the thing, I don't need to use anything I take. I don't care for prints, galleries or an online presence all I care for is money so when a client asks about my terms and I tell them how it is they pretty much love it and sign. The upside for me is I can charge a lot more initially the downside is I can never make money from anything I do other than the initial pay. It work's really well for me as I mostly do extreme sport and mma stuff but real estate has been a big earner especially with drone work (M600 with a cinema cam on it). Probably not for everyone as to be honest I don't 'love' videography or photography and I don't have any attachment to my work really, I'm just in it for the $$$ and it's something Ive done all my life so it's easy money. Maybe someone might think it's a good idea for them to set something up similar.

Well, you certainly dished out the score of photo opportunities, like going to the grocery store to clean out the shelves, but filling up a cart without knowing how to prepare or cook food is about par as all those photo named opportunities without first knowing how run a business or to use a camera to translate creativeness for clients will be doomed. Of course, making any kind of money in photography is not clear profit, even with six figures, one can still go bankrupt by overextending one's overhead in debt. Growing a photography business is a slow process, and there is good information on many KZfaq channels that will help guide the aspiring photographer develop and focus in key genres. May not get rich, but the joy and love of photography will be often the root of it all. Trust me.
