My grandfather ran a truck farm. He would drive a tractor with cultivation equipment down the field moving the strawberries to the left or right each year about 10”. Each year, three times left three times right. Giving about 24” paths to walk down. They’re definitely hardy. All he would say is he’s making a new pathway for people to pick them up.

Have you ever heard of electro culture? It works amazingly when you apply the idea to strawberry plants. You won’t need to use as much fertilizer either, the plants will produce sooner and keep producing all season long. The only negative is the electro culture makes the weeds grow faster too. I know people normally scoff at the concept, I challenge anyone that thinks it does not make any sense and it doesn’t work to try it on anything you are growing for 2 weeks, you won’t stop when the 2 weeks are up, I don’t know how it works but it works. Edit; when I put the rig up at my strawberry plants, I noticed the difference in the growth rate over the first night.

Thank you for sharing these helpful tips. I live in zone 9b SW Florida. I may be a little late for the party this year because we're already in our strawberry picking season. Today is January 11, 2024, but I did start some from seeds back in October, and I've got a small plant growing. I'm going to check a local nursery to see if they have any starter plants. If not, I'll plant more seeds and just nurture my plants through the spring and summer for next years harvest. happy gardening in 2024

My husband's parents had a 38-acre organic strawberry farm, they were the most delicious and biggest strawberries. It was a U-pick or buy them at the strawberry shack in already packed pails/boxes. They were very busy every time they had strawberries for sale. They also used young geese to do the weeding for them, which worked great. They would let them loose every morning and the geese would eat the weeds all day long and leave the developing berries and strawberry plants alone. However, once the berries matured, the geese would take to eating the berries, so his parents would sell off the geese to the Hutterites for processing and get a new batch of young geese the following spring. I wish you all the best in your plans for a strawberry farm. It's a lot of work and very rewarding.

I just learned so much from your video that I haven’t heard from other videos!!!!!!!! I heard about the “runner” but no one explained in detail and “showed” how the runner produces a “new” plant….. did I understand correctly that the runner can continue making up to 15 new plants??? And how many mother plants are there just one? And do you have to pull them up every year to amend the soil? This is my first year planting strawberries and I bought bare roots and I put five plants in two flower boxes…… so next year I take them out and then Amend the soil and replant them back in the flower boxes? I bought “Honeoye” Bare-Root strawberries….. they are looking good. A couple have started flowering. I planted them on 5-3-23 Zone 7B…..ty and I subscribed 🥰👵🏻. Still learning…

Awesome! Glad it was helpful. The runners and the division of the crown can make up to 15 new plants. The 1 mother crown divides during the season. Yes, you can divide them, replant them, and amend the soil all at the same time.

Are you tilling the soil to prep it for a first time planting or just adding the sustaine, kelp meal, compost and raking it in?
@CountryLivingExperience
@CountryLivingExperience Жыл бұрын
It depends on your starting soil. These are raised beds that are Back To Eden style that I built 6 years ago. I just usually add the amendments on top and rack them in.

I'm in zone 8b also, how do you overwinter your strawberries? Do you just cover them in mulch, or use some sort of row cover to keep them from freezing on the rare frost occasion?
@CountryLivingExperience
@CountryLivingExperience Жыл бұрын
I don't do anything with them. They are very hearty and have no problem making it through the winter without protection.

Hi! Thanks for the video! Can you please tell me how often I should water them? I’m not planning on doing drip irrigation, just a garden hose. Everything I’ve read online says they need “1-2 inches of water a week.” I have no idea how I’m supposed to determine if I’m giving them that amount or how often to water them based on those instructions.

An inch of water is about 0.62 gallons. Each plant needs that per week.

Up here in Eastern Ontario, strawberries fruit the second year (when planting a bare root plant from a nursery). I am curious, when subdividing and planting the mother, will it fruit the same year?

I live in North Texas in zone 9. I planted my strawberries last spring, went through the entire summer by providing shade with a cloth. I prepped them in the fall with straw and checked them a few days ago and they are already putting out runners with little strawberries and look like they are growing. I wanted to amend the soil prior to growth, but can I still do that? I am thinking it's too late and better to feed them fish emulsion. What would you recommend? Thank you for the great info on strawberries!

You can amend the soil at anytime with strawberries. I just add a lite layer of premium compost.

How long and wide is your strawberry bed!! I thought about adding a top over the top of the bottom box and putting hinges on the back and a handle in the center. So I can cove it when wire to keep birds and other animals out.

Thank you for the video! I bought one plant in 2020 and it has multiplied like crazy. I didn't know that you should move them around. I'm in 8b (SC) too. Is it too late to move them now? I would also like to know how do I prevent the bottom of the strawberries from rotting?
@CountryLivingExperience
@CountryLivingExperience Жыл бұрын
You're welcome. It is a little late to move them now especially if they are producing. To prevent that bottom rot, you need to try to get them elevated. I did a video on that here....kzfaq.info/get/bejne/sNyDfsWFlp3Miok.html. Hope that helps.

hello, great video! i have a couple of questions. so 4 years ago, I planted just 3 little strawberry plants and since then, I've got red, juicy, and sweet fruit. However, these plants have started to spead rapidly, and I planted them in the ground, so these taking over about half my whole entire garden! I love my strawberries, but this is too much and they're even getting into my lawn! Ive been thinking about making a raised bed, and I was wondering if I should just get rid of all my old strawberries and get new ones in the bed or take the best-looking mother plants from my garden? the ones I've had are 4 years old, and I'm not sure if they'll continue to spread in the bed. thanks!

Thanks. Take the best looking mother plants and the biggest ones and keep them. Compost the rest or sell them.

No, but we have mild winters. If you are further north, you can cover them on straw or hay.

I am in Wisconsin. Just getting out to my strawberry patch. Most plants have flowers already. So I am pretty sure I shouldn’t be digging them up and moving them at this time. What do you think?

2 questions 1. I live in zip code 75762 am I in zone 8 or 8b? 2. I have a dwarf pear tree bought at lowes several yrs. ago. Do not know variety. Last few years the pears are hard and not ripening tree done or what do I need to do?
@CountryLivingExperience
@CountryLivingExperience Жыл бұрын
You should be in 8b. It may be the variety of pear. There are eating pears and canning pears. Usually canning pears are sold at the big box stores. Additionally pears ripen off the tree. Check out the video we did on pears.....kzfaq.info/get/bejne/mdt9jNKqy9uXn3U.html
