Life is always simpler for most kids. It's all the "adult" stuff that burdens us. Bills, work, politics, finances..... Life just gets crappier as we get older, the world around us changes into something unrecognizable, our bodies break down, relationships and pieces of our life fall away. All that is left is longing for that "simpler time". Getting old sucks.

Possibly THE BEST 80s vid I've ever seen. You brilliantly nailed the fact that growing up as a child in any particular decade means that you are also influenced by things from the previous generation! I in 1984 I watched as many syndicated reruns of shows from the 60s/70s as I did new episodes of Different Strokes or GI Joe. Within 10 years I could go to a music store and buy albums on 8 track, vinyl, cassette and CDs; movies on betamax, vhs, laserdisc and DVD.
@peterbelanger40942 жыл бұрын
Most of that stuff was around in the 70's too, some from the 60's. But there were a few things VERY 80's. ET? Garbage Pail kids? yeah, 80's But Blockbuster? They really did not become widespread until the 90's, in the 80's it was mostly "mom & pop" video rental stores in the 80's.

Nailed it! All of the sudden, I feel grateful for the time I grew up in (born in 75), and for my parents and what they gave me as a kid. I also feel further detached from a time that made sense and was good, and lonely as hell. I wish for my kids that they could experience the time I lived in for a month, but then they would be as depressed as I am, and that would be cruel.

Sweet console TV and component stereo. I dig the 'dial' thermostat "my mother could never leave it alone, much to the chagrin of my Dad whom was always conscious of the 'heating bills". The 'dial' phone was your connection with the outside world. 'Fun-Dip' and 'Pop Rocks' were sought after. Legend has it a kid blew-up from eating too many Pop-Rocks. Rewinding a cassette tape with a pencil or pen was standard 80s procedure. VHS tapes ruled in the 80s and 90s, yet I was always perplexed as to why 'Beta' as a superior format never took hold. To be honest some of this serious shiznitz is more 70s related.

Thanks for posting this. It was great seeing so much stuff I had totally forgotten about. Kids today know computers, video games and social media. They are missing out on being a true kid. @josemiguelvelez2 жыл бұрын
@@domarq As a gay man that grew up in the 80"s and suffered horrendous bulling, there is noting "woke" about my life or my experiences. I should hope that by me sharing my thoughts it may help others to know not to repeat those actions that hurt others. My life will never be what it could have been if I hadn't been bullied to that extent. I won't stand by and let it be glossed over in a candy-sweet artificial memory of the 80's. The music is nice, the memories it brings back for me are not. I will certainly not be pushed aside and dismissed by you, or anyone.
