This was such a good topic I could ramble forever! One thing I realized I mention in my plug video but not this one is that since I work as a piercer I have often traded labor for jewelry- when I guest at studios or travel. This is awesome and honestly I have also had plumbers/hair stylists/massage therapists/sign makers/etc trade services for jewelry and that's another great way to build a collection affordably.
I touch on it here but the body jewelry collection scene can be addictive and filled with FOMO. It's really easy to fall into a spiral of purchasing anything that comes up in your size or that suits your goals, and I've spoken with a number of folks who struggle with shopping addiction in this community. I think this is an inherent issue with any competitive, collection based interest, particularly if items are one of a kind. Please be smart and thoughtful with your purchasing and spending and be responsible.

Y'know I'm always confused when people get so incredibly rude about having to wait for their plugs. Like, if someone's so inpatient with waiting for their jewellery, I genuinely wonder how they would've had the patience to healthily stretch their ears... Also rudeness is just never ok. I can't imagine getting angry at someone who's making something for me.

Its MINDBLOWING to me. Some of these makers have shown me the messages they get and the audacity! People are ordering super custom things with lead times given right up front, then demanding rushes, then being nasty or demanding free stuff. Its awful and my heart goes out to them for how stressful I know it must be.

I started my goals with opal and titianium pieces too! Then I learned about anodized titanium and said : heck with people saying "Gold won't look good with your skin tone! ", and now the goal is mixed gold tones/and real gold with opals. I've learned over trial and error to pick a few pieces I loved, save up for them and a little extra to make sure I don't break my wallet too much lol.

I have the same struggle with shopping to get that little serotonin! It is a struggle to find a balance with financial responsibility while finding little ways to get joy out of things when you work every day of the week for 11+ hours!

I would LOVE your recommendations/reviews on the shops where you buy body jewellery (especially in Europe, since some US sellers don’t event ship to Lithuania where I live)! I just reached my goal ear size which is 3cm and am really struggling in finding hing quality jewellery 🙏🏼

I love this perspective! I want to collect more jewelry and I will definitely purchase things keeping in mind that they should be something I want to wear often! I usually get one piece and marry it but I’m ready to add more stuff to my rotation!

I love this! Watching this video made me think about my collection and the fact it needs a polish. Can you do a video on polishing jewelry? A lot of my hanging jewelry is silver and it’s oxidizing. My biggest issue was I did not have a goal size like you did early on. First it was 00g so I have a ton 00g, then it was 1/2” and now I have a ton 1/2” and now I’m at 5/8” and have a ton 5/8” and now I have a ton of OOAK jewelry because I’ve been at 5/8” the longest. I want to go bigger than 5/8” now, so now I may have to start over again 😂. I don’t think Grit Lapidary would be mad about it honestly though. I also just throw money at Grit Lapidary, I have gotten to the point I only wear his plugs because honestly nothing in my collection compares to them. I have 2 new pairs coming soon and I’m so freaking excited.

I've always felt comfortable in black jewelry, but oh how I would love to wear gold. Gold is so beautiful, but I always worry about it looking kind of weird with my super pale skin. I'm about to say screw it though. 😂

For me it was a problem of thinking a certain size was my goal size, then getting the jewelry for that size yo experiment aaaand then when I got to it, after around 2 months and a half with it, I realized it still doesn't look big enough for me and my goal sized changed to 4mm higher, so now I have sized up and have loads of plugs that aren't my size anymore - however I at least understand which types of jewelry I don't like and won't repurchase with the new goal size achieved

Thank you so much for bringing up FOMO and how addicting jewelry shopping can be. I struggle hardcore with a shopping addiction and with FOMO when it comes to jewelry. I'm working on getting better at it and I'm trying to go slow with starting a body jewelry collection. Thanks again! This was great! I would love to hear you talk about something that excites you. Maybe Sailor Moon? Or fashion? I love listening to people talk about stuff that's exciting for them.

I've been doing the same thing! My goal is only 14mm but I've been picking up fancy plugs at that size since I made the decision to start stretching. It's a great way to spread the cost of a big collection.

Thank you so much for sharing your experience and knowledge with us. I can only imagine how much work it is and I just want you to know it does NOT go unappreciated. I’m glad these GRWM videos are enjoyable for you. Just a funny thing on this one I wanted to mention about the mistake of building a collection at a size you won’t stay at: I feel so many of us have goal sizes that change as we go. This has been the case for me. I truly admire your commitment to your goal. I, too, switched out my crappy jewelry for the rest of my piercings with implant-grade titanium. Safety first! It also goes with anything, is fairly inexpensive, and those factors are important to me. Sorry for the wall of text; I’m not always great at being succinct. Thank you again for all that you do. I look forward to every Instagram post, every blog post, every tik tok (I literally only go on there for your posts), every KZfaq video. I hope you are getting the rest and rejuvenation you need and are able to focus on recovery regarding mental health (and general health). I wish you nothing but the best. I’m not too far from Philly, and whenever you might settle at a shop there, I hope I can come see you! I’m also not too far from the 12 oz studios shops, so maybe I can see Luis and/or AJ at some point as well. I have a handful of old improperly done piercings I’d like to fix up in addition to adding new ones. I’d probably be a decent candidate for a “Lynn corrects a septum piercing” experience lol.

I’ve used pretty simple colour fronts for most sizes, I’ve bought a few more fun pairs at select sizes. 00g, 1/2” I couldn’t commit to the clear glass, but definitely on a budget. My original goal size was 3/4” but I’ve decided it’s 1” now cuz my coworker has a pretty impressive collection that’s too small for her since she’s at 1 1/2” now. Lucky me

If def gone in to body piercing with this mindset. I love gold, gold is pricy but I only buy what I love and know I will wear often. I invested in a solid gold septum ring that I know I will be wearing at least 5 days a week for the next several years. And some little gold hoops for every day. Next I’m saving for an elaborate septum ring for special occasions. I only was one special occasion piece so I’m on the hunt for the PERFECT one! :)

it's so interesting to hear this as a makeup collector because your perspective really does match that of so many people i follow (and myself). there's so much on the market, and there HAS been so much on the market for the last... ten or so years probably? and so many of us have fallen into the pitfalls of buying the next new thing because it's shiny, or because one person recommended it, or because it was cheap. so, so many people looked back at their collection (again, myself included) and realized just how much of their collections went unused or untouched for months/years because they didn't actually *want* it when they bought it. a lot of us these days ask ourselves the same questions before purchasing -- do we have something similar already? do we see ourselves actually reaching for this product over anything else in our collections? or even just - is this a product i actually like? i know for me, i just don't like primer or concealer, so why waste money on trying to find the one magical holy grail that finally does work when i know the liklihood of that is slim to none? i apply similar thought processes to jewelry, but fortunately (or unfortunately) i've acquired a taste for gold that requires me to save up if i actually want to get fancy pieces 😂 and taking the couple of paychecks worth of time gives me a chance to properly evaluate if it's a piece i'm going to get lwgitimate use out of.

This comment CALLED ME OUT. I struggled with being a makeup collector and a shopping addict for years. I kept buying so many new pallettes and for why? So similar to all the rest??? I did a huge clean out when I moved to Philly and really paired down my collection to pieces I really loved and would wear. I’m glad I did and I’m glad I’ve learned to approach buying makeup differently.

@@Lynn_Loheide OMG i didn't realize what i novel i wrote 😂😂 but absolutely! collecting anything is great, be it makeup or jewelry or whatever it is, but what's more important is actually enjoying your collection for what it is and filling it with what you genuinely love. instead of a dozen items i'm only holding onto for posterity, i could instead replace them with items that actually inspire me and fill me with joy and i'm excited to wear 🤷 it just sucks that it took me this long to actually understand this 🥲

Hi! I'm looking to build my collection with some unique interesting pieces, preferably hangers. I have my basic "everyday " and "work safe" plugs but really enjoy more unique pieces on my days off or when I'm out and about. Can you reccomend some sellers or websites? New sub, really love your collection!

How do you deal with body piercing being your special interest as well as your job? It is my special interest also but I don’t want to get an apprenticeship because I would be scared of burnout. I also love linguistics and I’ll probably get a job relating to it. I feel like being a piercer is one of those jobs that you should pursue if you wouldn’t be happy doing anything else because pursuing a quality internship is such a commitment and you deal with particularly awful customers sometimes.

I really want to make body jewelry with gold and silver. What kind of silver and what would gold or gold fill be preferable for them?
@Lynn_Loheide
@Lynn_Loheide 2 жыл бұрын
No silver! It’s not safe for the body. Gold should be solid 14 or 18k that’s nickel and copper free. It should have a mirror surface finish free from any imperfections or stamps on the wearable. Gems should be hardware set not adhesive set. Laser welding should be done for attachments not solder.

if you mean silver like the color and not the metal, the APP recommends titanium jewelry that's ASTM-F136 or ISO-5832-3 compliant
