Today we install Gtechniq C5 Wheel Armour on our new BBS CIR Wheels. We show from beginning to end and also explain what to do if you have really dirty wheels. We then apply multiple coats of C2V3 by Gtechniq as well.

How often do you have to reapply the C2? Also, when washing the car, should you still use a dedicated wheel cleaner or will the same soap you ise for the car work with the wheels?

Every two years if properly maintained is about the life to expect. You won’t need the harsh chemicals as much. A good iron remover works great and you can for sure use a good cleaning soap. If you let it get caked up overtime it will still require a good contact wash to get them cleaned up.

Did you run into any issues with wheel balancing? Will the wheel weights stick to the coating?

Never had an issue. It being quartz based allows for the weights to stick better. I asked Gtechniq and they said should be no issue.

aren't you gonna have issues with balancing weights when you coat inside the barrel? the weights might come off. some people recommend doing coating after the installation.

I have contacts with Gtechniq and the C5 coating is quartz based so they said it was no problem doing it before. If you run a normal ceramic like CSL then do it after as the weights could fall off.

This is the only piece of information I have seen on Not needing to worry about wheel weights due to C5 being “quarts based”! I have been worrying about this for weeks with only non definitive answers! Thank you

if i coat the inner barrel the tire shoo wont have any problem when the put the wheel balancing weight?

As long as its this C5 product you will be okay. I reached out to them before and they said it will not be a problem since it is a quartz based ceramic. Any of the other ceramics then you would want to balance before.

No, that can be washed.

Am planning to put these on my new wheels. Any concerns with the wheel weights sticking onto the surface of the coated barrel ?

This ceramic is quartz based which is formulated to repel dirt and water, but allow you to attach weights. I have multiple sets of wheels with this coating and have never had issues with weights staying on. One of the main reasons I chose this coating.

@@CarsWithKeav Thanks for the reply. I ended up coating my wheels with Gyeon Q2 rim instead. Tires getting fitted and balanced on Friday. Let's hope the weights stick lol

if i can't get extra applicator pads, is there an alternative you suggest?

There are not many small applicator pads out there, but the following is pretty good. Depends on the wheel whether its not small enough. You can also cut the block to fit. amzn.to/3TmsAvk Gtechniq has the pads for around $.50 Code Heidi10 will save 10%

What happens after the two year period? Does it start to peel off? How do you take off the old coating?

The coating will wear down overtime. You wont see flaking or anything to peel. Before the next application you would do a wax stripping type of maintenance wash and or a polish then re-apply.

@@CarsWithKeav yeah...just the thought of polishing four 10 spoke 19" wheels to perfection gives me shivers :)) I think I'll stick to some high temperature wax. It lasts for 2-3 months, but in 1 hour you're done. Haven't tried so far the new graphene products on the wheels, but for me...coating is not ideal...

@@alexdragomirescu5084 Graphene has not been perfected yet. Polishing is only if you want to start fresh. A chemical maintenance would be fine. I will probably have mine powder coated a new color in a year or so.

You should use a suede applicator, you're wasting too much product with that cotton! It absorbs a lot of product and doesn't extract as much.

You are right, but it was sponsored and they suggested to use what was in the packaging as those watching would most likely have those and they wanted it to be as easy as possible, I see what your saying though I use suede or foam applicators most of the time.
