Well done on showing how to test the MOSFETs... I found dead one on my card using you method-- replaced it now works fine. However, the solder used on the card would only melt with a 480 centigrade soldering iron/hot air gun temperature !! which made changing the chip very difficult.

Good to see it fixed but my 980 Ti will probably remain borked. I took it down, cleaned it and reapplied thermal paste. It worked well for a few days but went back to crashing games. I reinstalled the 1060. There's no way I can troubleshoot and replace bad components. This video convinced me to write that card off. I kind of knew it already but it's good that it's confirmed. Thanks...

Thank you very much for posting this I now have the same same card. An GTX 980 4 Gig. I live in Australia things are so expensive here. A few weeks ago I bid on it and bought it damage off of eBay for $60.00 add $15.00 for postage. The sellers description was ( Condition is "For parts or not working". Card powers on and works somewhat with graphical artefacts.) It will post in to windows but only stays on low settings. MSI wont even read it And it has developed blue line across the top of the screen. I was hoping to fix it as My R7 580 fan had stop working and it over heated and went to black screen. A new RX 580 are over $1000.00 here. Graphic cards are so expensive here Right now I cant afford the $1000.00 to buy a new one or even the $300.00 to buy a second hand one.A while ago I got a damage R7 380 of off eBay for $25.00 After I use a heat gun on it and it been working fine It is what I using now I was hoping to get both my RX580 and the GtX going. Videos like this have helped me Thank you so much.

Fantastic help thanks. I don't have the facility or ability to micro solder. I've bridged the connection with solder for the moment. What's the worst that can happen without the 1 ohm resistor? Memory gets 12v and the card is fried or worse?

Excellent video. Ive been having trouble with a 970. Had just installed FS2020 and initiated a first run while stepping away for about half an hour. Came back to what looks like someone smashed my display. And now get tear drop type effect on transparancies within Win10. Login screen, Xbox app etc. And will not game, but runs Heaven and Kombustor. DX12 issue?

Thanks for the video. I wish you would have shown where you were checking and what pins you were checking. You mentioned there was something on the back but you did not show what or how you were checking it. What were you checking and how and why..... I have a card that would suddenly go black then come back on. After taking it in and out several times and most likely getting bent as taking it out with the power plug on it went dead. Tried heating the cpu and got picture with colored lines. The cpu heats up. How do you check one that the cpu gets hot and you have to have the cooling fan off? I would like to see how you check everything to fix a card. Thanks for your videos.

Thank you man for giving me hope. I had two drops of water spill on my GTX980 and I was panicking it was completely screwed. How easy would you say it is it diagnose which transistors or resistors are blown and is there anything I should be aware of before I start trying to fix it?

It seems that i have a broken fuse on my board but im unable to find the exact fuse to replace it and I found out it is a Matsuo KAH Fuse with 0.25A. Is there an alternative to replace this? and where can i find it?

hello eli tech, what if we not take out those coils n keep supplying 12v direct to the blown fuse that short to the ground? is it still can make the short component go heat up?

I have the same problem with a 970 I replaced the mosfet and the fuse. But after 20 min or so broke again while installing the drivers. Noticed that there was some Flux left under the mosfets could that cause a problem?

Which Fuse have u replaced the "Q" - one with, and what alternative can i use for replacemaint of the "Y" , the 12 volt one ? thx

What do you recommend for a GTX 980 that intermittently gets a DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_REMOVED? Ive tried memtest cuda which came back clean. Drivers have been updated multiple times and it still happens. Im suspecting a hardware fault but not sure how I would go about isolating it

Great video. I hope you can help me with my card. I have an XFX RX 470 4Gb I bought used. It displays fine on the DVI port using an HDMI adapter. When I connect the same HDMI cable to the HDMI port it displays nothing. I get no signal detected. I have cleaned the port and tried a different HDMI cable. No change. Got any ideas? I have not tested the display ports. The BIOS appears to be stock. I compared to another identical card. I bought 3 of these. The other 2 cards display fine on either port when tested in the same computer. Computer PSU is 600 watt. Windows 10 and latest AMD drivers.

Great videos man, i'm learning a lot. One question: I've got a 550 Ti just for learning purposes, that has 0,9v for GPU, 1.5v for memory, 12v and 3.3v all good. The chip gets hot like normal. components look fine. resistance to GPU is 0.3 ohms and for memory is 105 ohms. BUT, no video output and OS / nvflash / gpuz do not recognize it. What should i check next? is chip dead? thanks a lot!

First of all I want to say "thanks" for this video , I have the same card and I have attempted to repair it, I found a mosfet that not working anymore and changed it, the card is returned to life but unfortunately not for enough time, as I launched a game, i have heard a sound of something going burned and I have discovered was another mosfet, changed it again but this time the card doesn´t start, i have noticed the presence of 4 other little mosfets in this card, are these possibly driver mosfets ?? how can i check them ???? Hey man your awesome at repairs. I bought a Gtx 980 ti second hand from a guy who said it worked fine but when I install the correct drivers for it and restart I get a black screen and the pc restarts by itself. Do you take overseas orders from Australia ?

im pretty sure you should be able to get the datasheet for the DR MOS so you could mesure the resistance of each fets ;) so you dont have to desolder the coils and give that nasty heat ;) ouh never mind :D

got a gtx 1060 3gb from msi i got a burned gpu i removed gpu and tested pcb i still got a short on the pcie slot 12v line but the pcie power 12v has no short what should look at
