Yes it would be easier. The STC doesn't allow it but you can do as you wish. I won't tell.

My suggestion is to do nothing. It is within 100 feet so it’s within Reg’s. Most encoders are only able to do 100 foot increments so they are often 100 feet off. The Garmin encoder can go as low as 10 foot increments. If you want to get super accurate then you need to have a pitot/static test set.. follow the procedures in the install manual. Basically it will tell you to run theses test while plumbed into your GAE-12. Go to -1000 and push a cal button. Then again at 2 or 3 other points. Stopping at 30K if memory serves. If it’s working then don’t change any settings. Usually you go into the altitude encoder page and select Garmin encoder as encoder #1 and nothing as encoder 2. If you have any other question be specific and I can help you through it.

There’s a lot to unpack in that post. First, the GTN-650 doesn’t have Bluetooth. If you have the optional flight stream 510 then that can have Bluetooth that is controlled by the GTN-650. If that is the case then you would turn the Bluetooth off on the transponder and then it will be controlled by the GTN-650 “Connext “ menu. Remember this rule. Traffic and weather are transferred from the transponder to the GTN by the HSDB high speed data bus. The “control” is done by the RS-232 connection. So if you can’t change the squawk code then it’s the RS-232 line that is at fault. If you can’t see traffic/weather then it the HSDB that is at fault. Let me know if I can help further.

@@johnstark-StarkAvionics thanks for your reply. I am aware the 650 does not have Bluetooth itself and I do not have a 510 or 210. However the 650 used to be able to control the 345’s Bluetooth under the connex menu. Now it’s greyed out. Perhaps I should try turning Bluetooth off on the 345 menu and see if the GTN Regains control again?

So for anyone else who is having the same problem. I was able to get the Connext link (no 210 or 510 installed) on the GTN650 to control the GTX345 bluetooth again. When I went through this video tutorial I thought I was careful to follow John's instructions and turn the HSDB and Interfaced Equipment off (as warned in the video) and then back on after setting the 650's RS-232 Configuration. Evidently it didnt take or I didnt do it right. Anyway, I went back out and set HSDB and Interfaced equiptment all to Not Connected and Not present, then re-set the RS-232 and then set the HSDB and Interfaced Equip back to connected and present and violå it started working. You do not have to turn off bluetooth on the GTX345 setup (in fact it has to be on) but when working properly after setup you will no longer see that option on the 345 rehular menu and it is controlled through the 650. Hope this helps anyone having the same problem.

The setup in the GNS is pretty simple. It's of course in the manual. RS-232 in/out set to weather/TFC. ARINC 429 in set to High/ADSB traffic. The proper way to do the encoder is of course to connect it to a calibrated static test set and go to the 3 points per the manual. Conversely to cheat I've heard of people just putting 1 foot off on each of the 3 points and calling it a day. Obviously I can't recommend that.

eallevato Although the unit I was using was a real GTN-750, I was using it as demo in my lobby, so I didn't have a configuration module in it. So it couldn't save it.

Just turn on the OAT in the dealer setup mode.

Have you calibrated the Garmin encoder per the manual? If not that’s why you are getting this message. In setup mode do you have Bluetooth enabled. Is there no Bluetooth page in regular mode? When trying to connect to Bluetooth are you on the Bluetooth page as required?

Also if you are connected to a GTN then the bluetooth transfers to the GTN and is no longer controlled by the transponder.

Check the audio wiring first between the GTN-750 and your audio panel. If it checks good then check the audio output level in the GTX-345 setup. You can also test the audio to make sure it is working by going to that same page in the GTX-345 setup.

Not really. There is not too much to the GTX-327. The only thing to setup is if you are using a serial altitude encoder. Then that port has to be turned on .

It is exactly the same as the GTX-345 that is in the video.

Each airplane is assigned an ACAO code. It is based mathematically on the aircraft N number. This way the system will always know your N number.

The most common mistake is when you are all done setting things up and you try to connect to your iPad, you forget that you have to be on the page that says Bluetooth.
