My Niece and her boyfriend just flew back from Guadalajara, Mexico. That was her first time, she loved it so much she says she wants to go back. I have been to GDL. but that was back in 1980 went with a couple of friends, even back then I loved it. It was so beautiful and green. Her boyfriend wants to buy property out there because he has family living there. Los Angeles is way too expensive to live for young couples. I keep telling them to save every penny you have, but things have changed since I was young. I bought a house here brand new in 1983 for $179,000 but I worked seven days a week back then and saved money. Now the house's here are selling for 1.2 million. The house across the street has the same floor plan as mine and it sold for 1.3 million recently. California is expensive to live.

I spent this past New Year's in GDL; I also visited Chapala and Ajijic. What a cool, chill city! I may come back next month to do a working vacation since the weather is perfect and its just a super short flight from my home in San Antonio.

We spent a week in GDL and loved it! But I was fixated on a place with small town vibes. None to little traffic, no hustle or bustle, just laid back but with the amenities of a variety of fruits and vegetables, great restaurants (including sidewalk vendors), museums, art supplies (I too am an artist!), neighborhoods that allow for knowing each other, creating community, families, and dogs (I have a service dog that must go with me everywhere!). So where then? Currently living in Huatulco but it is quickly being taken over with gentrification, pushing out the local Mexicans and expats living on fixed incomes, bringing with it the rude drivers of bigger cities, and a few unsavories with their scams and thefts. We used to be able to say HUX is the safest and most honest town in all of Mexico. Taxi drivers were known for driving around and round to find the passenger he'd just dropped off, who left their camera or bag in his taxi, and they continue to do it till the passenger is found. Not sure how that's handled these days, but you don't see these stories being shared on FB's Huatulco group much any more.

I lived in GDL almost 15 years Back in the 90's and 2000's. I saw the city grow enormously. half of Zapopan did not exist back then. I lived in Providencia and the first apartment I had , I was paying only $80 us dollars for a 2 bedroom. The city was almost empty back then. I could have driven around the city in almost half an hour. Back then the best mall was La gran Plaza and Plaza Del sol, in fact They were the only malls in the city except for Plaza Patria and Mexico. There were few high rises in Povidencia only. The best car was Ford Mustang and Chevy corvette. I used to go everywhere with taxi which used to cost me around 10 or 15 pesos. it was cheaper than gas, and I believe bus ticket was around 1.5 pesos. everything was limited back then specially The amount of restaurants, bars around the city. There was only 2 sushi spots and 2 Chinese restaurant which were disgusting. on Sunday morning there were only 2 places to go, IHOP on ave Americas and Tortas Tonos in providencia. My favorite places to go after clubs were either tacos arabes or dogos manuel both on minerva. and the best taco place was on chapultepec. I can go on and on about Guadalajara. My favorite spot to go on sunday night was The glass house on ave vallarta in fornt of Yaquis in Plaza eximoda. I had the best of time in guadalajara and made lots of friends. Great memories

feel good that Starlink is operating in Mexico as well, the price of $1,1100 MXN ($55 USD) monthly is much better than in the States (I believe it’s $120 in the States?), just wonder from the audience has anyone already been using Starlink in Mexico ? how is your personal experience with Starlink? is it fast and reliable? I’m asking this because planning to live relatively rural area of Mexico, the best part about Starlink is internet from the satélites not depending on any cable, so Starlink is operating in Mexico, and it should be covering the whole Mexico, in rural areas Starlink will have adavantages over traditional fiber internet companies, and I guess Starlink will be the only option in rural areas?
@MexicoRelocationGuide
@MexicoRelocationGuide Жыл бұрын
Starlink can be great in most rural areas that don't have coverage but if the starlink antenna cannot get a signal then you will not have internet. You have to be aligned to a satellite which doesn't always happen. And you also need a pretty clear area so you can get a good sky connection. Meaning that if you don't have access to a roof top it could be hard to get a signal.
@user-zyxx-rk5sg
@user-zyxx-rk5sg Жыл бұрын
@@MexicoRelocationGuide that cons of Starlink needs sky access is well known, also means in city area with high-rise buildings, probably hard to find sky access and not a good choice; but when in urban area, 50km or 100km away to city area, it will be easy to find a cheap house with no high buildings nearby, and in rural areas too, where fiber cable connections might not be very well; So that is where Starlink internet shows full advantage, Urban and Rural areas are Starlink’s best use cases, can free us from find housing to anywhere of the country; I personally know Starlink in USA pretty well, just haven’t seen many Mexicans talking about Starlink in use yet, not sure if same quality as Starlink in USA?

@MexicoRelocationGuide
@MexicoRelocationGuide Жыл бұрын
Thank you for watching! It’s not difficult to open an account- however the requirements vary from bank to bank. Many foreigners from the US living in Mexico have a Charles Schwab account because they don’t charge intl fees or atm fees. They withdraw money and just accept the exchange rate. Or they send money to themselves Using Remitly
