If you’ve never heard of the pangolin, you’re not alone. The majestic rhino and elephant tend to steal the spotlight when it comes to the issue of illegal wildlife trafficking. But the plight of the pangolin is dire.
Over a million pangolins have been trafficked in the past decade, with a single pangolin costing as much as USD1,000 on the Asian black market. Some experts claim that pangolin sales account for up to 20 percent of the entire USD19 billion illegal wildlife trade.
The pangolin is particularly coveted in China and Vietnam, where its meat is considered a delicacy, its blood an aphrodisiac and its keratin scales are used in traditional Chinese medicine to supposedly cure ailments ranging from asthma to cancer. This rare, enigmatic creature is “literally being eaten out of existence,” according to the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN).
Coconuts TV had the unique opportunity to join Save Vietnam’s Wildlife team as they journeyed across Vietnam to free 35 critically endangered Sunda pangolins back into the wild and to explore the underground pangolin trade in Vietnam.

2704Michael I guess this sanctuary in the video ,save Vietnam wildlife, is a good choice as they deal directly with pangolin.

Ask Sea Shepherd Conservation Society they will be able to give you a reliable Pangolin rescue group's name including the one in this video who rescue Pangolins directly in Vietnam.

These animals are so precious, i really hope they can be saved. Why cant Endangered Laws be passed to help protect them like the U.S. did to save bald eagles, Eastern bluebirds, & several other species?

Thank you for the incredible work and dedication to save these amazing animals so important to our ecosystem. Why can't more pressure be put on these city Governments to protect them, thru education and put more pressure on WHO to shut down wet markets, where they are also sold. Need more exposure and media attention put on Pangolins so the rest of the world can know them and want to help and fight for them. There are people that want to help. This has to stop for the sake of not only Pangolins but for all other wild animals being trafficked, exploited and hunted to extinction.🐗🐅🐒🐈🌏

Why did the producers decide to reveal where SVW was going to release the pangolins? The point is to keep these animals safe so they don't get captured again. Excellent work by the Save Vietnam's Wildlife.

Great conservation and rescue work. Thank you. Whether the Pangolins will make it as a species in this horrible situation being hunted down nobody knows for sure. Maybe the sentient robots will come to their protection in the nick of time before they and many other species are gone. The Pangolins and Armadillos are ancient species that show us a transition during the Jurassic era from reptile to mammal. Those are already mammals but still have the keratin armors on their bodies similar to what the Jurassic reptiles had. So one can see how this gradually shifted. The very early transitional animals from reptile to mammal must have been much smaller and they were able to hide in caves and narrow tunnels to get away from the meteors and cold weather.

This was very hard documentary to watch knowing that this beautiful creature is poached into extinction. All could do is hope more awareness will come forth about how wrong the myth is about it medical benefits are.
