What is a Pangolin? Where do Pangolins live? In this beautifully filmed PANGOLIN DOCUMENTARY, we follow two intrepid filmmakers as they attempt to capture all four African Pangolin Species on film for the first time. Learn about pangolins and please share our film!
Please support our work in Africa by visiting www.pangolin.africa and learning more about these amazing animals. All donations made will go directly to our conservation work. Thank you.
...................................................................................................................................................................
Eye of the Pangolin is a pangolin documentary of two men on a mission to share the wonder of all four species of African pangolin on camera for the first time ever.
Follow their extraordinary journey to remote locations on the African continent, from arid savannah to exotic jungles. Become captivated by these extraordinary creatures as the filmmakers meet the people who are caring for and studying pangolins in a desperate attempt to save them from being poached and traded into extinction.
Timeline:
01:00 Introduction to The Pangolin Documentary
03:00 Temminck's Ground Pangolin
05:00 Why are pangolins poached from the wild?
08:00 Pangolin rehabilitation
12:30 Pangolins and electric fences
19:00 Releasing a pangolin back into the wild
23:00 White Bellied Tree Pangolin
27:00 Black-Bellied Tree Pangolin
33:05 Giant Ground Pangolin
40:05 Pangolin Conservation efforts
Filmed in Ultra High Definition, this ambitious pangolin documentary is freely available online for commercial-free viewing.
Our goal at Pangolin.Africa is to make Eye Of The Pangolin one of the most widely watched wildlife documentaries ever. If enough people learn to care for this animal, there is a chance that it can be saved. So please share this film with everyone you believe will be touched by this magical creature. If we don’t do something now, the illegal wildlife trade to the east will ensure that pangolins will disappear from the planet within the next 10-20 years.
The film is directed and narrated by Bruce Young, co-director of the award-winning Blood Lions documentary.
Due to the sensitive nature of some of the content on the film, we would recommend an age limit of 13 years or older.

Through our three-pronged approach of Publicity, Participation and Protection, we are working with partners in the tourism, conservation and corporate fields to increase general awareness of the species; contribute towards much-needed research to save a species; help combat the illegal wildlife trade; end african wildlife crime; protect our pangolins; and stop poaching and trafficking that is threatening the survival of this endangered species.

I grew up hearing tales of this lovely creature while growing up in my home town of Limpopo, my people Tsonga find it very mythical that when spotted there is legend that it will not rain for a year and it spelled drought, therefore no mention should be made of the animal I think the reason for this is because they thrive in dry arid areas that they are associated with. This made me more interested in researching about them. Further heartbreak was when I heard that they are on a brink of extinction. I think more education is needed in rural communities is needed to educate people that there is nothing mythical about this animal species and this is where I come in with the research I got.

This film reveals where the creatures live naturally, that Chinese persons buy these creatures, other exotic creatures, to sell in the China exotic creature food markets. Unknown to the persons these creatures are reservoirs of viruses, diseases, have been for hundreds of yrs. China officials didn't want to learn from SARS epidemic, nor Swine flu H1N1, etc., & their ignorance, poor public health services allowed COVID-19 to infect the exotic creatures food markets, in Wuhun & spread around the world. China Officials want to blame USA for the start of COVID-19. Look at how China's illegal trades are causing deaths around the world.

@@c.a.greene8395 wow, it never occurred to me that the stupidity of how man views the size of his "manhood" would motivate the extinction of an integral part of the earth's ecology. Foolish men fighting over who has the biggest "missile". This is why women need to stop spoiling their sons and raise men instead of spoiled narcissists. Of course it is not all the fault of women, because hormones play a big part in the aggression levels and determines a great deal of the basis of behaviors that are not so good for our mother earth. This patriarchal society needs to shift somewhat to the more feminine matriarchal ideals. Ah, there is no ONE answer, except KNOWLEDGE. The more we teach, the more we know, and the more we can act wisely and treat mother earth in a protective manner. She gives us everything except sunlight and even that is filtered by her in a way that helps us and still our greed destroys her protective ozone. I pray that the earth will survive what we do to her. I cant help but think that this coronavirus is her way of saying "Enough is enough!" It seems that the only solution is to lower the population and here, it is happening. Can you blame her for wanting to protect herself? Protecting our mother earth is really only good for us, anyway.

@@c.a.greene8395 and it's not just asians - although they think pangolin "medicine" will help. It is the greedy people who know it does not work, yet catch and traffic pangolins for their own greed. How about some cane toads to get the cane beetles too? Though it actually does sound like a good idea for increasing the population. I don't know should we try another experiment; you'd have to weigh the unexpected consequences. So yeah it looks good on paper, and I would hope it could succeed.

It's been on my bucket list to photograph them for some years in several parts of the world i've traveled and i've know about their plight due to illegal trade / poaching to satiate the misguided and unproven superstitious Chinese medicine trade. This being said watching this documentary moved me greatly. I'm grateful for the passion and work the many people do to help prevent this and i'm ashamed to be part of a race responsible for the likely extinction in our lifetime of an 80 million year species along with many others. It's almost hard to comprehend how in this day an age of modern science and education, that some cultures can hang onto 1,400 year old superstitions that are not only unproven but are directly the cause of the extinction of the very most prized ingredients they want.

You would be surprised what men will do to get a bigger penis.... Won't matter if its a myth, an old wives tall or just some crazy person telling them its so... They are willing to even kill humans if they think that would do the job. All men are obsessed with their appendages, so if we need an 'african solution' then why not cut them right off? Hands too, this way they wont be able to poach animals again. With no pecker problem solved, plus these men won't be so darn angry about their baby child size penis

I've loved pangolins for quite a few years now when I first discovered them. They are such harmless, docile creatures which obviously makes it much easier to poach them. When they are poached and then readied for the traffickers/buyers to harvest them... they are put through an incredibly horrific, painful death. Often times boiled alive. Humans are a stain on this planet.

An extremely moving documentary beautifully filmed & put together! Yet at the same time deeply distressing when one realises the sheer numbers that are being mindlessly slaughtered for their scales. I just do not understand how the Asian markets continue to slaughter & eat literally any animal / bird / reptile that moves to feed their misguided and baseless obsessions. It is devastating! We have been extremely privileged to have seen two in the wild on different occasions many years apart, here in SA over the past 20 years. As people who visit the bush for weeks several times a year, one realises just how rare such sightings are! I hope this documentary is spread far & wide and becomes a key feature in educating the public to the serious plight of these amazing & fascinating little creatures!

This is such a tragic story, how most of us are still asleep and the implication of that. But how sweet,...How sweeeet! ...how these people are talking about their connection with the animals. So lovely.

I live in southern China. In 1985, a friend brought us a pangolin as a gift. My mom didn't know how to cook it. So we kept it as a pet together with the tortoise which was another gift received. After a month we released her into the forest because she was too smelly. That was 1985. A few months ago I noticed a newly opened restaurant in town quietly serving pangolin which is supposed to be illegal. They make some kind of soup with it. The price is about 500 USD. Yes people actually eat them, like chicken. There used be lots and lots of shark fin soup in Hong Kong, Taiwan, and southern China. Most of the trade is from Hong Kong, operated by mafia since the 70s. They have operations in UK, Spain, the Netherlands, Brazil, Mexico, Japan, even the USA. About 10 years ago China ran a TV ad campaign with the famous basketball star Yao Ming to tell people to stop eating shark fin soup. It worked. I"d say the volume has cut by 90% already. Then about 10 years ago as Chinese businesses started to move into Africa, people had all these new ideas about elephant tusks, Rhino horns, deer antlers, African freshwater fishes for tropical fish tanks, pangolins, chameleons, porcupines, you name it. There's got to be a lot more exotic stuff that we don't even know about or could imagine. Since exotic species are illegal to be imported into China, so people smuggle them through Vietnam, Thailand, Laos fairly easily I would think. If you want to stop them, you have to get to Beijing. Only Beijing has the power and the muscle to stop them. They can annihilate the smuggling gangs like they are coronavirus, if Beijing chose to. In fact, it is not entirely impossible that something from Africa with coronavirus ended up in the Wuhan market so the story began. You also need to be aware that China is very much cut off from outside media. We cannot access KZfaq, Facebook, Twitter, Istagram, New York Times...VPN is officially illegal in China. Therefore, 99% of the whole Chinese population of 1.4 billion are not aware of these issues, nor would those in the government who have access to outside media and understand English necessarily make a report of them. Political officers don't think like the rest of us, just look at Donald Trump. Maybe, try to bring up the issues whenever there are state visits so that you could present your wishes to Chairman Xi or Prime Minister Li directly. That might work.

Whether or not I win, I feel so enlightened by watching this video. I knew nothing about these adorable animals except for the fact that such animals exist. I believe if god has given us the most intelligence, it is because he wanted to take care of the fellow creatures. Hats off to all these individuals, the true humans who are working so passionately 24x7, 365 days to protect them. I hope I win and get to see some pangolins.
