Robin DiAngelo’s bestselling book White Fragility has provoked an uncomfortable but vital conversation about what it means to be white. As protests organised by the Black Lives Matter movement continue around the world, she explains why white people should stop avoiding conversations about race because of their own discomfort, and how 'white fragility' plays a key role in upholding systemic racism

Racism exists everywhere, not just in westernised society. It's prevalent in the city I live in (Hong Kong) and much of Asia too. And this video does not serve to answer the question of how to tackle it. She deflects with more questions to detract from the fact that she doesn't have an answer. Is it a housing issue, do the problems start early in education? By identifying some of the sources, you can work to address them.

The problem with this analysis is that yes: in-group preference is probably in-built to human nature, and applies to many different ethnicities, not just Western Europeans. There is certainly privilege enjoyed by wealthier ethnically Western Europeans living in North America, Europe or even Australia. However, the use of the term "white" is far too broad brush. It could refer to Eastern Europeans or even Central Asians: it is hard to argue for instance that impoverished eastern Ukrainians or Albanians enjoy any privilege at all compared, for instance, to non-whites living in affluent parts of the US
