I'm white, 38, and people still think I'm in my mid-twenties. The people at my current job thought I was an intern even though I've been doing this job twice as long as the other guy I work with. Some people are just cursed to look like children until they shrivel into prunes. My wife has the same problem, and she's Hispanic. Of course, she's also tiny, so that's part of it for her. She goes to lab (she has a PhD), and the PhD students all think she's their age (mid-twenties), when she's just a year younger than me. 💀

Fun fact: in German we have a term for violists who never played the violin before and started on the viola immediately. We call them "Edelbratscher" ("noble violists"). They are known to be preferred when it comes to getting contracts for world-class orchestras, so the assumption that violists who played the violin before are better in any way is less than true, even if intended as just a joke.
@andrewhcit
@andrewhcit Жыл бұрын
The main reason for that assumption is just that violas under 12" are rare, and as a result few people start on viola at ages younger than 8-9. Those who started on violin usually have a head start of several years. On the other hand, many people who switch from violin to viola never get as good a sound out of the viola as people who started on viola, because their bowing instincts are different.
@joanneaugust6611
@joanneaugust6611 Жыл бұрын
@@andrewhcit I did an internship in a music school last semester and I worked with tiny violists - as young as six. And while I know many violinists who started as young as four, nobody can tell me that starting at six is any obstacle in becoming as good a musician as one could be - more than enough world-class instrumentalists started around six.

Hey Brett and Eddy,I’m the ocarina player at 10:23 and thank you for reviewing my playing, so thrilled to see this reaction video! I have learnt many instruments growing up(like piano, ocarina etc.), but due to the pressure from the school work, I hadn’t practiced them for the past few years. Now I’m in uni, after so many years, I finally have time and it is you guys who gave my the motivation and the courage pick them up, most importantly, you made me really started to enjoy classic music which used to be inscrutable and dull to me as a kid.❤ And BYW, it is true that until today ,I still get recognized as a high student very often although I’m already a uni student, I know my appearance makes me look like a underage.😂

I composed a piece for piano and submitted the written composition along with a cassette tape of myself playing the piece for a piano composition contest. I received first place prize and two judges likened my style to Rachmaninoff. Very difficult solo piano piece. This was after playing piano for only 6 months. I assume they are just playing about the frets but some people seem to forget that when one aspect of playing an instrument is made easier it just leads to taking it to another level. Eg chords are way easier on the guitar because of frets, so we just developed an insane chord vocabulary and highly complex rhythm techniques.

@grammarnazi12

I think the point is that the years on violin translate quite directly into skill on the viola (so a violist who plays as well as if she had played for 16 years might have spent 8 of those years building up skill on the violin) whereas learning another instrument might not be so directly transferrable. Like if a flautist transferred to violin after 8 years of flute, they might be ahead in terms of musical knowledge, but they would not be able to play the violin as if they had already been learning for 8 years (or 5-6) on day one.
@elissahunt
@elissahunt Жыл бұрын
@@grammarnazi12 But switching from flute to recorder, or recorder to ocarina, would definitely give the player a head start over a raw beginner. Many musicians play both clarinet and saxophone (especially if they are jazzers). Doubling is a norm for wind players. And musicality, phrasing, etc., can transfer between widely different instruments. I just found it interesting that Eddy and Brett only considered violinists switching to viola.

But this was not all you had in stock I have to admit it was quite a shock When you took on Blackpink As Paganini himself, and got all the hate from their Blinks Sell out rocked so hard It for sure broke my spotify chart! But the most wonderful, epic event Was simply Ling Ling and God sent Of course through your hard work, all the practice and dedication too Let us witness you guys playing Mendy, Bach and Pag with the SSO Not only that, you did it on TWO Strads! That just proves how much the world loves you, lads It remains till this day the most beautiful recording in my opinion So much passion, softness, fire and emotion After new year a new project One in order to protect Violin-chan from the bass gang It all went down with a huge bang The Twoset vs Davie504 concert Nothing like this has ever been done, correct? All in all, an epic year once again And I'm sure you guys will gain Even more followers, do more epic projects, meet more people, dream even bigger And we'll support you all the way, while you do everything with vigour Please though, take good care of yourselves Look after you, take breaks and sleep enough, for your healths And for now all is left to say Is, happy Birthday!!!

Hi twoset! Met some people you went to uni with yesterday at a family wedding. They were playing in a quartet. They told me that you were like the kids at the back of the section that always kind of messed around playing concertos while everyone was thinking “SHUT UP!” Lol. The guy I talked to was Dan, btw

The most impressive one taking the years played to account is the double bassist. Almost unreal. The violinist playing for 28 days doesn't seem unreal. I started with the guitar, then picked up the cello. In 28 days, I'd say I played similarly to her. She must've had some musical background.

Regarding Kira: adults can get pretty far on string instruments in relatively short amounts of time. It helps being more in tune with your body and more receptive to learning than kids are. Half the process of teaching kids is preventing them from breaking the instrument lol. And the other half is getting them to pay attention.

This video calmed my doubts. I started learning to play the violin in November and I felt stuck recently. I don't really have comparison to others and to know a little how people sound after many years of practice was good to relax me a bit. On to practice!

Aye, one can get stuck and frustrated and have bad days when it's best to give up [that day] but it's all down to practice and I am making progress albeit slow [18 months on violin]. Some weeks my tutor just says after I've struggled through a piece I'm learning: "Well it's a lot better than last week" and a week does make a difference that only others can see/hear. Good luck and enjoy your practice...

They made a serious mistake when judging the organist, we don't have dynamic control from the keyboard. The keyboard is literally a switchboard, the note is either on or off. There is no dynamic sensitivity in the keys & pedals. Dynamic changes are controlled via swellboxes, and the registration of the instrument. (Organ performance student here)
