Thanks so much for this video! I love videos that help save money in Japan! My de-facto cheapo strategy when I was living in Tokyo was to head to any of the numerous 'Yayoi Ken' restaurants and order the cheapest 'ichiju sansai', a set meal (which is either grilled miso mackerel or deep fried chicken) with unlimited top ups (it's self service, so don't feel shy) of plain, white rice. I would basically fast till as long as I can till about 3-4 pm (there was once I hit a 6 pm record, but it was the summer and I did nothing but hang out at Tower Records listening to records) and head to Yayoiken and eat 6 bowls of rice or something. It's immensely fulfilling for a mere 590 yen. The meal will last you an entire day. Comes with free cold unlimited green tea, pickles and miso soup too. It gets pretty packed during rush hours, but at other times, you can sit there as long as you wish without anyone bothering you, which basically means you can eat as much rice as you like. Some of these branches (like the one in Ginza, several in Shinjuku) are open 24 hours!!!!! That's insanely awesome.

This makes us so excited for Japan next month! The price of things is going to be a shock as we're in Mexico at the moment but bring on the half price snacks at the end of the day! Thanks for making this vid. Cheers, Thomas

at supermarkets, they discount all sashimi, packed sushi and cooked foods left that they have to finish selling, about 1 hour or half before they close. and most places have discount hour(s) when they open the store in the morning and around 3 pm which there are not many customers and they want people to come and buy. good luck^^

Waribiki! So addicted to discounted food, most of the time we would wait at night for discounted bentos and buy enough for days! But we didn't know that they also have sale around 3pm! Thanks for letting us know!

still bit expensive for little food.. in indonesia, you can get 2 scoop of rice + 1 slice beef or 1/4 chicken + vegetable only 110 yen or 1$..

King Hazard no, in Jakarta that will cost you $5 at least. Beef is freaking expensive now. For $1 you will only get rice + vegetables + tempe.

There's a reminder about "bento 🍱" half price. Remember, anime series "BENTO 🍱"? There's a story, it's about started in any convenient store 🏪 & supermarket for a 'half price' b4 closing the store. And,that's not it. One of the customer is nabbing customer's bento 🍱,and they started a 'streetfight' both at convenient store and supermarket into 'a half price brawl fight! ' C it at #Kissanime online-free. Wow, that's a nightmare! B prepared.
