Great video! Practice is right! Great focusing tips. Are you planning on getting the G9II? It looks like the M43 camera to have! I still love what I get with my G9! I have the GH6 and the S5 but I gravitate to the G9 most of the time! It's just awesome!

A useful and interesting video as always. Ive been toying with gettjng a follow focus wheel for my oly 300mm and pana 100-400mm. And possibky to use with the OM 150-400mm! Have you ever used one with the pana 100-400mm?

Thanks! I do use my smallrig mini follow focus with the pl 100-400. But I have to strap it down to the lens support, because the focus ring is a bit stiff. If I don’t strap it down, focusing will sometimes move the lens sideways a bit. Hoping that the 100-400 m2 will be improved in that regard. Not that I have budget for that lens yet 😅

Hey Nice Video and very informative. I will ad that to train you could use pets cats first and after dogs for training. In MFT even with mitakon T1.0 it is easyer to get stuff in focus because the dept of field is not as shallow like with FF or S35 (exept when paired with speedbooster) You got the 17mm Mitakon I love it have the whole set. I have one lens the 50mm with a loose screw it is just anoying, maybe I will sent it back for repairs I don't know. How was the fair in Amsterdam, did you see the Burano,new Blackmagic and other cool stuff?

Thanks Filip! Your tip about cats and dogs is a good one! I'd love to have the whole Mitakon set. I reached out to them, but haven't heard back yet.. IBC was great! I will be coming out with an IBC recap video with an exciting announcement in it 🙂

Great video. Do you like the DZO+GH6 combo? I've been eyeballing both of those. Is that a m4/3 version, or an APSC with a Speedbooster? Thanks.

Thanks! I do like the DZOs. I have both in m4/3. The look they give is very nice. They do have noticeable chromatic aberration though. There’s a review of them on my channel

Great and clear video, as usual; I often use the Transition Focus on my GH6 and I think that, in some situations, it works really good. Of course it is not a follow focus but when you work in a controlled set and you perfectly know the position of your subjects, this function is really usefull

I have a Nikon 400mm ais lens that I purchased for linear focusing when filming wildlife (mostly birds and small mammals). The center of the focus ring is approximately 180mm from the lens flange. Is this too long of a distance, in your opinion, to use a follow focus? It would mostly use be used on a tripod, but thinking of building out a shoulder rig. I was thinking of getting the smallrig f60 since it has the hand grip under the focus puller, in order to support the weight of the big nikkor lens.
@RedFrameTech
@RedFrameTech 9 ай бұрын
I think a follow focus is a great option for that. I use it myself when filming wildlife as well. But I would not recommend the smallrig F60. My cousin has it and I had it in my hands at IBC and there’s play in the system. For me, that’s a deal breaker. If you’re going to use a shoulder rig, you may also want to look into a wireless follow focus. Then you can mount the focus wheel in the most convenient place.
@jamesloop
@jamesloop 9 ай бұрын
@@RedFrameTech thank you for the heads up on the f60! I’ll look into wireless options. If I went with a standard follow focus (not wireless) would you recommend the Smallrig mini, or another brand/model?
@RedFrameTech
@RedFrameTech 9 ай бұрын
@@jamesloop I can recommend the smallrig mini. Have been using that one for a few months and has been great. Tilta also has a nice one, I forgot the model number.. but I’ve used that one as well

@@petehogervorst Ik gebruik de smallrig mini follow focus. Erg prettig, maar alles hangt ook af van de focus ring van de lens. Ik gebruik ook de DJI Focus Pro als ik autofocus nodig heb met m’n manual lenzen
