Overall I highly recommend NinjaV+ over NinjaV, not sure about new recent versions. For V+ as a bundle with accesory kit, they includes very nice pouch, batteries, a case, AND h.265 included without extra pay (that was not obvious at purchase time). But overall I would go with mini Assist 5" or if you don't need portability 7" would be great, better to pay a little bit extra and get more featured device.... Didn't deal with BM customer support, but for Atomos they are very nice, FYI...... Need to check BM Assist if they have it, but on NinjaV/V+ the huge disappointment that they do not have horizontal flip, to make it like a mirror when recording yourself, so little simple thing that make it very uncomfortable.

If Black Magic make it with SSD tray like on NinjaV it will be awesome. Ninja is not bad, but quality is way too different, like (a bit) a toy (Ninja) and professional tough device. As well dual battery slot with hot swap is nice. Having both, Ninja is nice especially for SSD simplicity. Overall for the price BM Assist is much better regarding price/features. cool video! How do you choose shooting angles and how do you learn to shoot?
@RedFrameTech
@RedFrameTech 14 күн бұрын
Oofff.. that’s a broad question 😅 Basically it comes down to learning about the exposure triangle. Once you know that you just experiment with different angles, focal lengths/lenses, lighting etc. Taking the time to experiment really is the key to find what you’re looking for. You learn so much doing that! And it doesn’t matter what you shoot or what it’s about. You don’t have to publish any of it if you don’t want to 😄 There are many ‘golden rules’ to be found on the internet. But use them as guidelines or starting points, not as things that are set in stone. One more tip: try to find someone you can do it with. I didn’t do that enough when I started out, but it brings out the best in you and the person you’re working with. But feel free to ask me any more specific questions!

@@RedFrameTech I was just thinking about learning how to shoot and I thought that I needed to rewatch my favorite films and make a storyboard of what they took into the frame. I need to somehow understand how to tell stories. At first I thought focusing like in the Shogun series was very cool, but now I’m starting to understand it’s such a problem to keep everything in focus, most masterpieces were shot without bokeh and these were masterpieces and it seems to me that rather the field of view is much more important than any bokeh and sound of course! It’s just that in our country, almost everyone receives a salary of $500 and finding people who want to play in a movie is not a problem at all; the scenery is another matter, here I come to a stupor; we have a lot of forests and rivers, but there are almost no ancient buildings or villages or cities.
@RedFrameTech
@RedFrameTech 14 күн бұрын
@@ggdfggdfgdffgfddg34Bokeh and focus are just tools that you have at your disposal to tell a story. Granted, story telling is probably the hardest part. You need a story arc. A beginning, middle and end with a problem/challenge and a resolution to work up to. I personally also find this the hardest part of filmmaking and am learning every day. And as for the scenery: Where I live there are plenty of old buildings. However, I usually prefer to shoot in a more nature environment. It’s all about getting creative with what you have at your disposal 🙂 May I ask which country you live in?

Who paid (I didn't) for h265 about $100 and now, who doesn't, can buy a new "pack" for $79 and will have all "new features" and h265 for free, but loyal customers who paid will pay twice. That's really suck. Such a spite from the company. Should give a discount or for free for someone paid for h265. Technically for something locked artificially in device and even could be not clear that h265 on Ninja V is not included and you will figure it out after purchase. Not nice and shady business...... Regarding 129 and 79, on Ninja V+ h265 is included, so in NinjaV is there some sense, but on V+ is might not be very useful for most people to pay that much.

G9 smooth video motion challenges --- there are 2 things i'm not sure about: 1) selecting the 2 modes of ibis up down or full, and how does that work with EIS? MY problem: I'm shooting widebody aircraft on runway at fairly close range with pana 100-300. when the aircraft is down the runway or landing far approach (so angle is much less that 90 degrees to me), everything is perfectly smooth, but when it gets closer to where i am, and i'm perpendicular to the plane (like 60-90-60 degrees), i'm having trouble: motion gets a bit jerky when i have to pan more quickly and i am very steady just rotating torso slowly. It's as if the stabilizer is fighting the motion if that makes sense (this is why you use the up down mode right?) . I have tried changing ibis type to full (hand in menu) vs up down (vertical arrow in menu), this does not seem to solve the problem. Does EIS interfere in this scenario? The distance when i'm perpendicular to the plane is probably 125m i guess, and the plane is moving fastest at that point of course. My shutter speed is 125 for 60p 1080. I'm not sure what to do. I have "professional" results as long as plane isn't right in front of me but when i rotate a bit more and the subject is perpendicular (and moving much faster also across the frame), i get the jerkiness. I have tried at lower zoom as plane approaches my point, same result. Always handheld, and just rotating my torso steadily. Any idea how I might solve this (without using wider angle or gimbal). THANKS. I guess i can try turning off and on combinations of ibis vertical, fuill, eis and ois. I don't think my own movement is the problem.
@RedFrameTech
@RedFrameTech 17 күн бұрын
Tough to say what's causing it. Playing with stabilisation settings is definitely a good idea, but I don't think EIS is going to help much. Initially I thought the frame rate is too low, but then you said you already shoot 60p. Still, you may be panning too fast for the frame rate. You mentioned the subject is moving much faster at that point as well and panning only looks good up to a certain speed. Then the question is, how to get around that? I'm not sure I have the answer, but you could try playing with your shutter speed. Also, a tripod with a good smooth fluid head could help, as it eliminates any unwanted up/down movement that the camera has to compensate for during the pan. Hope that helps somewhat!
@soneeeee4440
@soneeeee4440 16 күн бұрын
@@RedFrameTech Thanks. I thought about the tripod, but there is movement on several axes as the plane approaches, gets bigger and then smaller as it goes past, it's too cumbersome. I can certainly use wider zoom, not as cool but less motion in the frame . I'm on an ebike also so tripod is a bit harder. I guess I'll have to experiment. first with no stabil. and then adding one by one. I know many of the plane spotting guys on youtube use video cams in the middle higher range but I can really get very good close up video quality with g9 + 100-300 zoom.

I found ALL, and I do mean all, of your comments to be spot on. I've watch just a few of the other reviewers and I kept thinking (and on Robin Wong's thread commenting) that there just didn't seem like quite enough of an upgrade. You make a good point on the audio options (though I too have enough audio gear and Beachtek units that I do not wish to buy another outboard deck). So yes, better audio options at an enhanced price that I likely won't go for, and better AF. While I could argue that the better AF is enough to upgrade, by itself it is less than compelling. As to lack of marketing, it's almost like they are acknowledging that this is what the GH6 should have been more like (I'd agree), so it feels like they just wanted to sneak it into the market, almost like it HAD been the cam they released 2 years ago! lol But it does make me yearn for whatever the GH8 will be, as by then I expect it to be worth the upgrade.

@RedFrameTech 19 күн бұрын
You make a good point about the marketing. Let’s hope they won’t completely ignore the GH6. I still haven’t decided on the GH7 yet myself. It’s a tough one. The main reasons would be the convenience of having the XLR2 with 32bit float and the autofocus (though I mostly shoot manual). That’s quite the investment for a new camera body relative to the new features it has over the GH6. Thanks so much for watching!

@@RedFrameTech Right. To get that audio we want it will run around $3,000 US for cam and audio (Of course, don't buy it now. I bought mine for that $2,200US and promptly saw it drop to under $1,600 a few months later. And this is how companies chip away at a customer's loyalty!) 32-bit would be nice. But I want it built in. I have a Zoom H5 and can simply set that to 24-bit, which really still gives a damned good buffer zone. But also lets us run a second audio input at lower gain. Crackling issues I have had (bad cables) but I don't recall the last time I had clipped audio.

BTW, let me also add what you IMPLIED in your video when you showed you were doing a talking head with the old G9. That is, sure the PDAF is better and great. No argument. But the older AF, especially on the last revisions of it, like in the GH6, was VERY useable. Not quite thoughtless run-and-gun, or fully reliable remote. But still quite serviceable. Besides, over half of my lenses are manual anyway! lol And if someone is a total R&G shooter, and totally dependent on the best AF, they likely moved to Sony a while back. Or certainly should have. And last, the other item you noted that I had not heard, was that the GH6 and 7 images/colors don't match. That is moronic! Most of the ppl who are buying the GH7 are already in the system and likely have a GH6 (or 5, which is non-matching yet again). Install a setting: "Match GH6 Color".

I agree. The GH6’s AF is quite usable. The mismatch in color between the GH6 and 7 is a concern. For my G9 I made a LUT to match its V-logL to my GH6’s V-log, which was not too difficult. So I’m hoping it’s doable for the GH7 as well and I’ll probably match it to the GH6. Not the other way around

I entered the GH line with the GH6 as an upgrade to a video centric camera. previously I used the Canon 800D for photo and the Sony HVR-Z1E for video mainly. The GH6 is absolutely fantastic, luckily I ignored most tubers disappointing reviews and went for it. I have captured some absolutely amazing footage in the Scottish highlands and had no issue with streaking luckily in my 2 years of owning it, is it really a thing?? The only downside for me with the GH6 is not the Contrast based AF because I mainly use MF lenses or switch the AF to MF 90% of the time though the AF is fine anyway I have found. My issue and its only minor is the format as I am so used to ENG cameras, i kinda like the heft and the shoulder mount etc. The G9ii offered nothing I was interested in and the GH7 doesn't really either apart from real time LUT which the GH6 could easily handle if Lumix update the FW. looking at GH6 vs GH7 and G9ii footage I must say that I prefer the GH6, maybe its softer or the colors just look better, there is just something more digital in the newer models. Maybe its being used to tape based late 90s footage that makes me prefer the GH6 I am not sure. If I was coming into the game new now would I buy a GH7, probably not tbh as I have also bought into Sony FF low light A7Sii so I would likely be holding out for the A7S4 but for many people the GH7 is going to be a great intro and may be a worthy upgrade for the GH5 crew who weren't keen on the GH6 maybe. Oh and yes I still use the HVR :D its about 25 years old now and I LOVE it, and I still use tape not the MVR attachment too. I have even recently bought a VHS M7 for some real old skool footage. If Lumix do update the firmware and its possible as they are adding Arri LOG to the GH6 and they add real time LUTs and maybe a link to the Lumix app, heck ill be shooting on the GH6 for 25 years too. As a little side note to this for you tube I generally do walking footage and use the DJI pocket series (up to the mk3 now) I think that thing is the ultimate you tube camera. its tiny, the footage is absolutely superb, any newcomers to youtube who like to VLOG or do street wanders or general everyday walkabout type footage dont spend 2k on a camera just get the Pocket 3, the upgraded version with the Mic etc all comes in handy and is good quality. If you shoot mainly MF on mirrorless like me then the GH6 is a beautiful camera to use and prices will bottom out shortly, but if you must have an AF machine then the GH7 is likely the better choice for you. Better to swoop on a GH6 soon though as with the Pen-F when folks realise just how good it is for so cheap, the price is gonna start to rise again. its hard a short production run so will be a rare beast eventually and I think its footage is in a nice niche of its own. Ive been taking photos since the Kodak Instamatic 104 days using my grannys camera on old 126 film, through pocket 110, then SLR MTL Praktica etc. We are very lucky now to be in a situation where so many great cameras are available to us and photos and video are instant. i am sure if you do go for the GH7 you will not be disappointed, it is a great camera just not one for me...maybe I like a challenge lol - great chat and look forward to more vids buddy.🙂

I agree. The GH6 should easily be able to handle Real Time LUT. I feel like Panasonic are ignoring the GH6 at this point. I share your observation on image quality between GH6 and GH7/G9II. From what I’ve seen so far, the GH6 looks much better. Like you said, the GH7’s (and G9II) image looks a bit more digital. My guess is that it might be a compromise due to a sensor with PDAF. Cool you’re still using HVR 😄 The DJI Pocket 3 is definitely a good youtube camera and I’d like to get it. I just can’t justify the purchase as I would basically only use it for youtube and I earn hardly anything with this channel 😅 I still haven’t decided whether I’m putting in a pre-order for the GH7 or not. Perhaps I’ll wait until there’s some hands on videos and comparisons to the GH6. Thanks for sharing all of that!

It is possible to get that to work and you can set A and B points manually, but the lens (and camera body) have to be capable of linear focus. Thanks for watching!

Quick (probably easy) question - for in-car talking head videos, wouldn’t it be easier to just set the G9 to MF and there won’t be any pulsing at all.

That would definitely be easier and I should’ve done that 😅

They didn't want to overshadowed the s9 perhaps? I agree very weird!!! coming from a gh5ii im really considering the gh7 hard... Especially with my mft lens collection but im still also thinking about a S5iix both are compelling cameras to me

Both are compelling cameras for sure! I’m sticking with micro four thirds. While the S5IIx is very compelling, I’m not willing to invest in a set of full frame lenses for a camera that I’d probably like less than I do my GH6 and probably GH7. But everyone has their own needs and preferences 🙂
