completely agree, there is NO reason why a game that came out after 2010 should have UX this bad

I’m super happy to see that other people have been having this problem with the servers refusing to connect matches. I only started playing the game about a month ago and I was worried that the problem was my own hardware. I really hope this gets fixed soon I’ve been really craving glue recently…

I've loved Strive since I picked it up a month ago, but waiting for an hour to get into one match is actually insane. I think I might have more hours spent waiting to get into a match than actually playing in one

Well this is pretty interesting. As someone who basically never played a modern fighter and basically lives in fc2, it's crazy to hear about players complaining so much on just connecting to another player, or the server issues, they can seem absurd to see.I guess stuff like this is harder to nail than I thought

I started playing strive about 2 months ago and I have the following issues: 1) game has trouble connecting to other players usually after a match 2 two forcing me to restart 2) floor updates usually dump you in the emptiest lobby 3) no basic combo list, new players have no idea what’s going on when they have to go into the combo menu to download 2 similar strings and 3 way above their level

lag is a terrifying force to be wreckoned with, whether it be from client side or server's it can mostly make people quit their favourite games on the spot

The servers have worked well enough for me during the duration I've played Strive, but ever since the crossplay update I've had *LITERAL* weeks of not being able to connect to a match. It's happening right now, actually. Now I'm in the same dilemma of wanting to quit.

Thank you for bringing this up. I have not heard anyone else critique some of this stuff. What is nuts is that the rollback is great. Only problem is, it takes about 7-10 minutes to get into a damn match. It's like FN up a wet dream. How do you F@&$ up a wet dream?!?

What I hate the most about this is that they don't really seem to care enough about these problems. The game didn't exactly come out yesterday, but the experience is still so frustrating.

Celestial challenge is scary now since if you fail it's like losing a hour or 2 of progress

Dude I hard agree, I just started and I'm on Xbox and when I tell you over 70% of my game time is trying to find a match only for it not to work, I'm being dead ass. Fun game but the servers are so ass

Software Developer here: the initial server connection was pretty slow mainly due not using keepalive on the TCP connections, which led to the creation of "totsugeki" proxy that sped up PC connections. Now with the connection problems, it leads me to believe it is a case of poor backend development and how their operations folks run and monitor their servers. Game Dev and backend dev and operations are different beasts after all, and arcsys seems to lack expertise in the later two.

Now I'm not really knowledgeable on this stuff but does the Servers having issues connecting people to matches also affect the connection during the match? I've been having issues playing a stable game against my friend in the same town even after I get into the room. I will say that my internet hasn't been a powerhouse the past week or so but I can play Mario Kart 8 Deluxe without a problem.

when I was playing Strive the other day every person I was connecting to would eventually just stand completely still after a while and I would eventually disconnect from the server completely. I found out that it was due to server issues from the new Xbox port that affected all platforms but man that situation really turned me off the game because I wasn’t able to finish a single set. it happened to me in EVERY match

This is quite an interesting video since I've never had issues with the server here in SEA/Japan, nor have I had to wait for more than 10 seconds before the main menu. Hope the issues get fixed for you.

i find myself already tilted by the time i find a match. All of that shit piles up and you play 1 or 2 matches and just quit because fk going thru another 100 battle stations to get your ass kicked.

As someone who lives in Zealand and, thus, has to play tower in Japan, when I started running into the server connectivity issues I thought it had something to do with those shenanigans so it was, in a way, reassuring, to know it's the servers in general having a bad time. It's a shame because, as someone who bounces between floors 7 and 9, I find Tower to be a great experience. Because the system is quick to update your floors (something that is no longer massively painful), it never feels like you're out of place for long and I think there's a good mental reassurance in looking for people and seeing them at the stations compared to just hitting "find me a match" and then having absolutely no idea if things are working under the hood (Hello, there, King of Fighters). I think, perhaps, the thing that Tower needs is just some floors within celestial, because the high level people are always complaining it's too much of a mix there. Here's hoping ArcSys manages to spin up more servers in whatever cloud hosts their stuff and things settle I DO think that talking about UX in general and defining it as generally as you did weakens your complaint a bit because in everything that's not to deal with online connectivity, UX in this game is pretty great. The move lists and practice missions in this game have made me absolutely loathe basically every other game when it comes to this aspect. The bar has been set way too high, way too high being "there's like a sentence that explains what the move is for". You play any SNK game and it's like "here's your move" and if you go to the wiki you find out that each version has different invincibilities which the game never mentioned, lmao

I just got into strive on a friends suggestion and this same issue has been driving me NUTS

The main reason, i believe, the servers fell apart is because of MASSIVE player influx thanks to it going into gamepass. I bought the game on december and spent all that time until mid march with 0 errors. And i live in south america. To show you the influx, SA servers went from 2 people on floor 10 if you were lucky at a saturday afternoon to 17 every floor on a monday noon. So yeah.

No the biggest problem is the game eating inputs and freezing me in place with lag and bugged animations making startups last 10+ seconds and removing block for no reason

Man, I wanna play Strive but homie, these server issues are insane. I don't even know if I wanna use Strive as an SF6 waiting room or not. I was gonna, especially with Bedman? releasing this week, but now I'm not so sure. But with Strive suffering so greatly, and my options for other fighting games feeling narrow, I'm starting to wonder if I maybe just take a break til June.

I quit Strive because it's too easy to autopilot and also that moment in the video where you say the game just doesn't want you to play? Yeah, I was demolishing this guy on my final celestial challenge match. I was happy because I don't consider myself too great at fighting games, so getting into celestial twice would mean I improved at the game. Instead, the game decides to boot me out of the match at the very last second I was about to win, where I had to queue again and promptly lost. I played a little more after that but that shit just demolished my soul and I found I just couldn't have fun with the game anymore.

This is definitely a huge problem...being honest, it's especially frustrating when you just got washed and are looking to take it out on the next opponent, or when your winning and your hands start to "cool down."........at the end of the day the tower would be better if floors 9 through celestial had blind matches so you had to be good enough against all potential challengers instead of "cherry picking"your way to the top. As an Axl main, it is kinda frustrating that typically only Millia, Chip, and sometimes Sol players will challenge me when I'm at a podium. Every other character, I have to hunt one down to fight.

being on floor 10 myself, this problem is really, really apparent. Getting a match to try and get that 5 win streak to get a chance at celestial is atrocious. especially when you're steamrolling someone a little too hard and they decide they won't rematch and now you have to find another opponent that you'll freaking connect to... 9:50 lmfaooooo im not the millia in the clip but im a millia main, this hurts my soul man :( :')

The only explanations I could ever come up with to explain Arc System Works's design decisions for handling online (particularly stuff like the forced log-in at game start) are that: 1) No one involved with the decision-making ever played online, so they implement ideas that might look good in a manager/board meeting but are terrible in execution 2) The people in charge actively hate online play and anyone with an internet connection, and actively sabotage their games

Just started fighting games this month, got over my online anxiety and started playing online matches and this is a hell of a way to get introduced with constant "unable to connect" messages and getting booted out of matches. Have had a few good sessions at off-peak hours but then the problems start again after a while.

Aside from my own gripes with it I am happy it's successful, though why does it not have the simple ability to invite friends to a lobby like in older titles? I know there's the making your own room and setting a ID you can send to a friend and all however. On a side note Skullgirls always delivers.

The server issues are far from fixed, it's still a 50/50 on whether you get a match or not. It's not as bad but still frustrating and very noticable

I've been on Strive for 15+ min currently and I've yet to find a game. Ran up to a dozen players and couldn't connect.

That "Failed to match with an opponent" thing has been an issue since even BBCFs original release, and even in BBTAG, where you have an immaculate 4-bar connection with the person or room you want to connect to, and the game just says "Nah". I think it's just an ArcSys thing at this point, and it's annoying.

Literally can't play against others anymore because of failed to match error. Couple months ago I could hop in an play almost instantly. Hopefully the next update will fix this problem

hey! Just started playing GGS recently and found your channel recently too. I'm coming from Super Smash Ultimate and honestly, so many things about strive are so much better than over there at nintendo. Comparing the two, personally I've had a much, much better experience with Strive. While the server connecting issue can be annoying in strive, it's honestly nothing compared to the online experience in SSBU. Online matchmaking systems, unfortunately suck in most games. This Isse needs to be adressed tho, so thanks for raising awareness

If I'm being honest I picked up strive again but only because my friend on Xbox got it, and there are 2 things stopping me from playing it more, 1. Too many characters in this game piss me off, and 2. I cant do anything in the servers if someone in my house is also doing something wifi related, I can get into a match here and there but it takes forever to do so, I really only play this with my friends in lobbies for a reason and this is exactly why

as someone who is too strong to play floor 10 but finds it challenging to play agaisnt celestial opponents, I absolutely despises the celestial challenge system. The few times I got my VIP I usualy did it against players with similar low levels (200 or so range) or other challengers. sometimes I make it to the challenge on friday or saturday nights and most of my opponents are pro players and asking someone who plays casualy to beat pro players 5 times out of 6 is a bit dumb imo. especially if you don't feel like you are making any progress fighting floor 10ers and would like to face similar skilled opponents (lower levels celestial players) just feels like theres a floor "11" missing lol

The reason the severs were better after peak time was because of a lower amount of stress on the servers.

Just started playing strive about a month ago as my first online fighting game and had such a blast playing it and wanting to play again. The next day the game greeted me with 2 popular sentences: Failed to obtain duel data information and failed to match opponent. At first I thought it was my hardware problem but doing quick google search it turns out the problem was about the game.

Very interesting watching this having recently made Tekken 7 my main game over Strive. The loading screens in that game are atrocious, plus no instant rematch, and the stress of the ranked system honestly has me missing the more chill atmosphere of the tower. Definitely don't miss that "Communicating with server" every time I want to lab something, though =P

The online has always been bad for the game(not the netcode), and then it got worse. Still, my biggest issue with the game was always the damage. EVERYONE hits like a truck full of nuclear trucks lol. As to the tower, it's fine on its own, but the game should ALSO have included a normal ranked mode.

me personally, ive been doubling fown on playing my friends that are better than me since i cant get in the tower

Well I found a quick fix to use when you can't connect to anyone in the lobby, you just have to update your R-Code (by changing your name or desc), hope this helps :)

My biggest issue with strive is the fact that you can see your opponents character.. I'm a bridget player and I consistently get dodged by players purely because of my character.... it's almost a worse feeling to not be able to match for 10 minutes then get a game then have them dodge you to spend another 10 minutes fighting the server... I played the game for 3 hrs one day and I got maybe 3 games in between everyone dodging and the servers just not matching me

In my experience simply Syncing your windows time seems to fix the issue, why this works I have no idea.

The funny part is, the current user experience in Strive is probabbly even worse than what DNF was at launch. DNF had training mode freezing when paired with the opponent and giving long pauses to even be able to accept/decline, sometimes pressing matchmake on the menu would do absolutely nothing (requiring a full restart of the game), and after a match the "rematch" button would offten times be disabled. Strive's experience post Xbox Crossplay was even worse, the stations being near unplayeable, holding people hostage on the station for long periods of time for "connecting", and even ONCE you finally found a match, it would STILL disconnect you from said match... So, I hope Arcys is working hard on this, otherwise it can kill the game's momentum and who knows if Season Pass3 would even save it or get people to try it again, if they are still under the impression "the online just does not work".

Arcsys really needs to fix their UI across all their games. I'm not here for a cute but broken chibi lobby room where I have to look for a room in a 3d spece that my friend is hosting; I'm here because I have a few hours between coming home from work, cooking dinner, and going to bed and a friend said he'd be down to play a few matches while his kid is taking a nap. I might be aging into boomer territory, but please just give me an option for a menu screen which doesn't require a 5 minute loading time between matches and gets me into the actual gameplay.

I think I just have the amazing luck of joining pvp games with either awful que times, lobby errors, and lag/disconnect for no reason or just full on close midmatch and I’m speedrunning trying to get through the loading screen. I literally play a game where if ur playing alone it’ll take 5-15 minutes (usually) while if ur in duos/trios you’d get slapped into 15-30 minute long ques…. I’m not kidding I have screenshots of myself and friends even hitting the max where they waited a full on hour. But a full team is like 5-30 minutes, it’s a popular game but the ranking up system ends up either increasing or decreasing que time.

i just tried the game for the first time. upon opening the game i had to slowly scroll through 2 ridiculously long User Agreement/privacy policy things, create a user name, then it connected to server.

I wanted to branch out from fighterz but it seems the arcsys curse runs strong and now I'm farting around on KOFXV seeking purpose lol

Funnily enough I was keen to get into Strive at launch, the startup/login time actually got me to quit and go back to Tekken 7 after like a week.

I seriously thought that it was just my internet, or the fact that I was playing on xbox. But the fact that others have been experiencing this too concerns me.

I was a newcomer to this game, I'll shortly describe the agony (PC player): - game recognises both keyboard and controller - in menu settings, you can only rebind keyboad - all buttons on controller work, except triggers (both dont work) - game doesn't allow you to rebind/change/switch keys on controller So I was not able to play. After 2 hours, 50 different posts on forums, 3 different controller manipulating programs and god knows how many PC restarts, I manage to somehow get the controller running on bluetooth only, without the game recognising the controller, but one of the 3 programs to recognise controller as a keyboard. JESUS F-ING CHRIST I have not had a single game in my life do this to me. It's like a racing game not recognising a wheel. How bad does the code have to be ? The game's essence IS WELL TIMED KEYPRESSES. Not story. Not adventures. Not racing. Not battle royalle. The controller that you have IS THE GAME. So eventually, after being able to at least throw some punches...I trried to do basic moves, basic special attacks. You see, since my controller was via bluetooth...It introduces minute input delay...And this game's special attacks, like HALF CIRCLE + (normal?) + SIDE + SLASH (or HB) are so fussy, I found it near to impossible to execute. And I'm no slouch at executing chains of button presses. Mind you, when I finally got the super special attacks to work, I didn't get them on controller. I actually moved to keyboard by that time and got lucky with timing. Overall, looks like an interesting game. Art style was what got me to try it. Interesting characters, perhaps. Really beautiful game. But it gives off that "Street Fighter" clone vibe. Did not feel "new", "different" or "refreshing". DIfferent visuals is not enough, when underneath, the gameplay looks to be just like every other fighting game with minute differences. They could've gone Shin Budokai's way (Dragon Ball Z: Shin Budokai Another Road on PSP), where the gameplay is new, refreshing, angled, balanced, control system is different... I don't know...All I can tell you is that whilst searching through those 50 different topics, where people were having agonising problems trying to get their peripherals to work with this game...I've read countless times people ending their forum post with "I HAD TO REFUND", "AFTER 5 HOURS I REFUNDED" etc. etc.

Don't worry, I was still having the same exact issue today, it hasn't been fixed. You just got lucky :) I guess I'll be playing Rivals of Aether in the meantime till GG is playable again.

Just today I was connected for 2 hours and got about 5 games in. They definitely have not fixed it and it really sucks. I'm not done with Strive but it seems like it's done with me

Yes getting a match now adays on ggs is a hit and miss and sometimes u do get it and it's laggy

you need to know you can go to the lower floors even at a higher state or level just by purposly loseing battles so the game thinks you cant handle this floor unlocking the lower floors

Huh, I was playing on the 26th and I didn’t have any problems. Granted, I was only playing against a friend, but it was through the online, not local. I haven’t really noticed any change since it came out on Xbox. Maybe it’s only really effecting higher level floors?

I was able to get like 4 or 5 sets in yesterday. I think that’s the most I’ve managed since Xbox integration launched. I’ve basically given up on playing much until the servers are in a better state. I’m not picky, the way they were before Xbox launched would be fine, but as it stands I get to play 1 or 2 sets before the lobby shits itself and I have to restart my game. I might as well not even bother.

yeah my biggest problem is that after like a year+ of not wanting to play, I have wanted to lately and now I can't! these damn servers! fighting a game so I can fight with a UI so I can fight with a network setting so I can have a match is just grrrrrrrr

I ditched Strive for SFV because I had no sense of progress in celestial after a while. I learned to live with the server issues, it's sad to hear they got even worse.

For anyone seeking matches, sitting in training mode is the worst way to find matches. You wanna always be joining people manually. The issue the game has is with pairing people automatically. The automatic mechanism is screwed up. So when you have two people trying to automatically fight eachother it trips up on itself. It has some flavor of this issue since the first beta back in 2019. What you wanna do is limit the automatic process as much as possible and manually join people. If you wanna warm up in training mode just play offline for a bit. (this will not fix the issue where the game just decides two people are incompatible and refuses to match them, that's a separate issue and you just have to give up if that ever happens, also try not to be on wifi)

The game for me doesn’t even allow me to quick play a match. Or get into a lobby. It never gave me that problem before on my Xbox or pc so the servers are really really bad at the moment

as someone who is extremely new to fighting games half the reason I'm held back from playing the game is cus I have to wait so long and do so much just to get my ass handed to me by people who actually know what they're doing making really hard to learn cus there's only so much combo guides and practice tool can teach me....

I really hope someone over at ArcSys watches this video. Today I waited 20 minutes to finally get in a match just to fight a Millia player who's PC clearly couldn't handle running the game. I turned off Strive and booted up RE4.

Honestly the reason i got Guilty Gear is because i bought SF6 for my friend for his birthday and he felt like it was a bit too expensive so he bought me GGS. I played for an hour and got back to Mortal Kombat 1 but since MK1 has shitty servers that make me throw up when i think of playing the game i just went to play GGS. I would probably like to play SF6 more but i'm having my fun with Elphelt and i think i'm gonna play Guilty Gear for some time

The server gymnastics to get into a game is just dumb right now...and I don't even know if it works or just wishfull thinking. Especially like when the whole tower room gets disconnected
