In this guitar licks video, you'll see how to improve the sound of any guitar lick. The key isn’t learning more licks, it’s how to make the ones you already know sound better. Here’s what you’ll learn in this guitar licks lesson:
First, I’ll show you how to transform an ordinary guitar lick into a series of cool guitar licks. I call this “Lick-Milking”, and it’s something I do almost every time I want to create guitar licks.
Then, for our second guitar licks tip, you’ll see how making small changes to a good lick can make it sound better… a lot better. (Yes, I include all the guitar tab for you.)
I’ll then show you how you can refine your guitar licks so that they continuously get better.
Next up, I’ll show you different ways to apply vibrato to licks that make them sound really cool.
Then, in our next tip in this guitar lesson on licks, I’ll dive into what I call “Double-Bends”. These are not double stop guitar licks, it’s better.
Our 6th lead guitar lick idea is what I call a “Super-Slide”. It’s a simple but uncommon way to add an extreme slide into any guitar lick you create.
Moving right along to tip number 7, we have a cool little hack to get more out of any lick you play. The secret? Double-Picked-Octave Phrase.
Last up, we have the “Arpeggio Rip”. This is one of my favorite ways to improve the sound of your guitar playing and create better guitar licks.
Let’s dive into the guitar licks lesson video and have some fun!

Phrasing is definitely an underrated concept when it comes to guitar playing. The tips in this video will make a MASSIVE difference in my guitar playing (as well as anyone else who actually uses them). Thanks for sharing, Tom Hess! :)

I subscribed to Tom's online teachings a few years ago and I'll be honest, even though I've only spent one year with his masterclass (I stopped playing for a while for undesirable reasons), I've learned way more with him and Luca than I've learned over the course of the 10 years preceding Tom's courses. His advices are gold, like the informations in this video. He definitely is worth listening to! Great video by the way! Always inspiring to see you post great content, Tom. :)

I had no clue of how vibrato could add so much power! I overlooked this, but in my opinion it sounds AWESOME.

Great concepts, thanks for showing them step by step! I use a lot of super slides but got a few new ideas to apply them out of this. The double bent note really sings to me so definitely want to try that. Arpeggio rip and double picked octave ideas is something I have not used much but that I also want to work on more. I can see about a billion possible applications that should be fun to work with!

Awesome! I'm in the middle of writing a song with a section of four cycles of a chord progression where four guitars play harmonised but very boring licks of nothing but whole notes. I'm going to make each guitar take a turn at spicing up a cycle with these tricks. Maybe it'll turn into a kickass solo in the end!

Cool Lesson Tom! I think I liked the double bends the most, which does sound pink floydish, but sounds dramatic! I feel like i'm at risk of breaking a string by doing a 2 full step bend? am I wrong to think that, or is it worth breaking a string by doing one?
@tomhessmusiccorp
@tomhessmusiccorp 4 жыл бұрын
I'm glad you enjoyed the video. If you have good strings, they won't break often and a 2-step bend is definitely not too much for good strings. But yes, sometimes strings break - that's life. :)
