In this video, you learn exactly what to do in order to break through a guitar speed barrier, limitation or plateau. So, if you've felt stuck when trying to increase and improve your guitar speed, this is the guitar speed lesson for you.
First, I’ll show you why many players hit a wall and struggle to break through their own guitar speed limitations.
Then, I’ll show you what causes these problems and how those barriers limit your ability to play guitar really fast.
Next, I’ll show you the 3 levels of tension that you need to know about and use when you practice developing more speed on the guitar.
And finally, I’ll teach you a simple but very powerful (and innovative) guitar practice strategy that will help you play faster and build your speed on the guitar in just a few minutes. You learn all this in 3 simple proven steps...
Learn how to double your guitar speed and cut your practice time in half: tomhess.net/DoubleYourGuitarS...

This is a great lesson. Thank you so much for this. I'm 65 retired and learning guitar. I need lessons on techniques more than I need lessons on playing for now. This helped immensely. Thank you!

This is a fantastic lesson! And I believe that just touching the string actually does improve the accuracy, as I can focus more on which part of the finger tip I use to "fret".

Mr Hess at it again.. I take something from each of your videos. Many, many thanks for your time and free snippets. It is much appreciated. Once I am finished with my masters, I intend to take up lessons with you. Filled out the information sheet but the cost is a bit of a hurdle at the moment. Once graduated, expect another student! All the best, Tom, and thanks again.

Really great insights here Tom Hess! I like how you dig deeper into the root causes of speed limitations for each person, instead of just blindly prescribing the same "method" to everyone.

Thanks a lot again Mr. Hess for this very important lesson.. In order to do speed pick, but relaxed, should I use a thinner (less than 1mm) pick..? or thicker one..? Kindly expecting your reply.. 🙏

I'm wondering how much of a difference a pick would make when trying to pick more accurately and increase your speed? I switched from a regular full sized pick to a Jazz III and felt it helped me pick faster, but not sure if it's just in my mind.

Hello Tom Hess, First of all, great lesson. My question is that would it be correct of me to assume this process also works for sweep picking?
@woolgum
@woolgum 4 жыл бұрын
A tip is to put your finger on the string (third fret on low E string for example)with no pressure and then slowly add pressure while picking until you get a tone. Now you know how little pressure you actually need, try to use the same pressure for all notes now.
@tomhessmusiccorp
@tomhessmusiccorp 4 жыл бұрын
Yes, this is a good idea. The key is to add pressure with the left hand independently of the right hand. Meaning: don't squeeze the string harder with the fretting hand as you begin picking harder (or vice versa).

Suggestion for a future video: during tremolo (especially on the first 3 strings) the pick does not move up and down in two directions, but rather moves in a circle or oval along the string. Is this correct, and if not, how can I fix it? To clarify, this happens when playing with the wrist (I do not use inefficient finger movement).

when I play faster ,my pick always moves, how should I fix my right hand or pick?Thank you very much.
@tomhessmusiccorp
@tomhessmusiccorp 4 жыл бұрын
There is probably an issue with how you hold the pick. Without seeing you play, I don't know exactly what you need to fix. But here are a few things to try: 1. use a larger pick (with a bigger surface to hold on to), 2. use a pick with a special grippy surface (like Tortex picks), 3. hold the pick a bit closer to the tip, to make it more stable in your hand. (Squeezing the pick "harder" is almost never the solution. )

I think that ,it is necessary to hammer on and pull offs even if we are not playing legato. But We should apply lesser force than the the force we apply in pull off and hammer on in a legato. Otherwise we cannot play Clean and fast.
