Babymetal definitely put on a show and work a crowd fantastically well. Yui and Moa will get the crowd energy going and Su acts as a sort of conductor. The girls, and the Kami Band, are the face of a very talent team at Amuse run by Kobametal. When you can employ great songwriters and a choreographer like Mikiko (what was the Japanese Olympic Organizing Committee thinking) and then you get great performers to deliver the music you can produce some awesome shows. You mentioned that there are some people who hate Babymetal. I think a lot of the hate is because they burst the bubble of metal's self-indulgent masculinity and also that they are a product of an agency rather than a few guys jamming in a garage. I think that's irrelevant when you see the quality of the shows and the entertainment. The song has a strong Dragonforce vibe because Li and Totman worked on it and play it on the album, but I like this live Kami Band version more. The concert has a great stage set up and the famous Yui leap over Moa during IDZ as well as this definitive performance. "Road of Resistance" is about fighting and resisting even if you can't see the way ahead; that's a common theme for Babymetal songs. At the end of the crowd "wows" I love the combination of the insanely fast guitar riff and the dance sequence that ends with the girls standing strongly and outlined by the lights, that's where I really get the chills. It shows how well the Babymetal team works to bring together music, singing, dancing and stage and lighting design. You are fairly well into the foxhole now, and as you mentioned Prog Rock, I recommend you listen to "Tales of The Destinies". Strap in tightly. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/mc-im7RpzrLIkqs.html

@@akaalexanderking - If you want to hear progressive listen to 'Tales of the Destinies' That is their homage to Dream Theatre. It's amazingly complex. It was only performed live once. At the Tokyo Dome. If you want to react to it i recommend the audio only version. The live version is totally blocked on youtube. The lead singer Suzuka Nakamoto said she was excited to be able to perform it live because she never thought they would.

I think the fact that they have an entire organization behind them just means they should be held to a higher standard. Which they easily surpass. Also, look at the other big metal acts out there who think Babymetal are fabulous. They know what performing is like and they like what they see -- Korn, for instance, was at their 2016 Download set, got completely soaked in the deluge and said it was totally worth it. Listen to Oli from BMTH talk about working with them, how professional and hard working they are. They have won a huge pile of awards for Best Live Performance for obvious reasons. I think the haters don't like the idea that a metal act can be joyful (and even cute!) and make people smile. And that's just one of the things Babymetal brings to the table. At the end of the Wembley 2016 show, Moametal says "You are all so precious to me, I love you!" That's how I feel about them. Babymetal daisuki. "It is our Destiny, The One will be with you."

⚡ 💀 💕 / 🏴 🏴 🏴 "Stand up and shout, Shout!, Justice Forever!" - (Road of Resistance) - This song has often been used as a closer. Sometimes it's been followed by an encore. It was the opening song for the first night at Tokyo Dome (Red Night). Guitarists for the version you just watched from Saitama Super Arena (SSA) were Takayoshi Ohmura and Leda Cygnus. The bassist was BOH, and the drummer was Hideki Aoyama. Herman Li and Sam Totman from DragonForce contributed guitar tracks for the studio version of this song.

Nice & thanks again from Japan 有難う💛。In a recent interview, Su-Metal said this RoR definitely helps BABYMETAL connect to the crowd in any country and in any situation. That is true. The crowd involvement (mosh pit, call & response, chant etc.) occurs wherever they go on this planet. And in your video, Su shouted some words at 08:28 meaning "Bring them on!". Fans analyzed that the shout was thrown at people who had been ignoring, underrating, mocking, hating and even trying to discredit BABYMETAL. The shout was necessary in 2015 but no longer now.

At least for my situation you are 100% correct for babymetal being a gateway to other music. My whole life I've always been way more interested in tv and movies than music. I heard of babymetal years ago when they were on some KZfaq channels doing interviews in the US, watched gimme chocolate and thought wow that's cool and kind of forgot about it. Then the pandemic happened and this summer I was bored of my playlists on Spotify and randomly thought about babymetal and listened to them. What a wonderful world of music this has opened up especially stuff from Japan. While I have discovered metal bands I like more now they were definitely a great gate way.

(for obanhedobanhedobanhedobanhedobanhedob, who asked about Yuimetal and RoR) Q: “Road of Resistance” has a very strong feel of stately British Metal to it. Did this have anything to do with it being debuted in England? Kobametal: “Since the Live performance at the O2 Academy in London on November 8th last year was the final show in the WORLD TOUR 2014 and was done under the theme of it being both the ???? of Chapter 2 of the Metal Resistance and the introduction of Chapter 3, presenting it at this venue at this time for the first time had significance as being the theme song for the 3rd Chapter. Further, Yuimetal ardently expressed her wish that it performed saying, “It must be so!”. (laughs) ~ Hedoban Vol. 6 Q: Next, we have your 2nd solo live performance in London at the Brixton Academy. This was the debut of the song, ‘Road of Resistance’, right? In our interview with Kobametal in ‘Hedoban Vol. 6’, he said that Yuimetal had made a request to debut ‘Road of Resistance’ at Brixton Academy. Yuimetal: I may have said that (laughs). Q: (laughs) That song has now become a song that represents BABYMETAL. What was your impression of it the first time you listened to it? Yuimetal: First of all, let me say I am so incredibly happy that this song got made. The songs of BABYMETAL before this one had a humorous perspective about them in their lyrics, but this song contains a very hot, passionate message. And what is more, since it fits perfectly with the state that we are in at the moment, there is so much in the lyrics that we can totally relate to, DEATH! Yuimetal tends to put great emphasis on the lyrics of songs when I listen to music. ~ Hedoban Vol. 10 Q: The first time Babymetal performed this song was at London’s Brixton Academy, correct? I myself was also present at that show and what stays with me as a strong impression is that the fans really sang along with the song in spite of it being performed for the first time. From your perspective as Kobametal was this not an ideal happening thinking about just how enthusiastically the fans responded to this unveiling? Kobametal: Yes, it was indeed! It is not exactly a gambling move but until you actually do it you don’t know how things will unfold. But even saying that, I mean, suddenly presenting a song that no one knows, well….(laughs). But I did have the feeling and expectation that the English fans would come through and so decided to unveil it there. I feel that the end result was very good. In fact, we suddenly change the arrangement of the song during the rehearsal session (laughs). The Brixton venue is a kind of old style opera house and so the sound reverberation is quite something. When the instruments come in there is actually too much reverberation. So, during rehearsal we realized that the melody would be drown out. The girls understood that even if they asked the fans to, ‘Sing it!’ that they would not be able to understand that ‘Wow wow’ nor the melody of the song. And so we decided on the spot to cut the instruments in the middle of the song and go with an A cappella approach. Q: Wow, so that is what lies behind the reason for that big chorus part! Kobametal: There were a lot of factors at play. In the end that incredible scene came into being so I am certain that the girls came away very happy and with a strong sense of having pulled off a truly successful song. ~ Hedoban Vol. 10

Good reaction/analysis . It's good to hear a real reaction instead of the fake ones. I think the best ROR is at 2016s Tokyo Dome Red Night (They opened the show with it) ok.ru/video/281583160012 . At this show the Kami band was really going off and playing and interacting the crowd. During the ROR Whoa Ohh chant Mikio was doing the chant with his guitar and it sounded like one of the girls. The tones and harmonics he would make with his guitar are missed. (RIP Mikio Fujioka). The guitar parts were originally done by Dragonforce's Herman Lee and Sam Totman. Herman stated on his twitch stream how he likes how the Kami band take on it and complimented Takayoshi Ohmura's picking speed. During the concerts its good to watch the band members and see how they get into the performance.

You can't put them into one category. They are all about mixing accross all categories and blending them with metal. They have really herald a new injection into metal, something which has brought me back to metal, after decades of being disoluded with the metal scene. Nemophilla do a great cover of megitsune. Worth a look. Part of the Renaissance in Japanese metal owes allot to Babymetal, if not in style but opening new doors to allow more popular acceptance with new audiences. Those who say metal music has to be a fixed format otherwise it's rubbish, can't have listened to Led Zep or Deep Purple just name a few, one of the best things with this new generation of bands in Japan is they don't have a hangup with putting everything into categories. They all bring their own style and not merely copying western music but still adding something to it.

Babybetal and Kamiband are the highest quality metal production in the world. This show is epic. Great vocals, great music. Yes, you are right, it is a commercial product, but in this case it is an advantage.

It is a commercial product, but it's for the Japanese market. Even extreme bubblegum pop acts like akb48 and momoiro clover z have songs that rely on back tracks with shredding. There's a pop act called team shachi and now 2 years in a row they've had tatsuya amano from crossfaith on their drums for a special show. The land of the rising sun is a crazy place. Think about old school video games that have midi shredding, like the mega man 2 theme is practically a metal song

I see the other commenters have made some fine recommendations. I have nothing to add to them as I'm new to Babymetal myself and still discovering songs, learning little nuances of their history, etc. I like them a lot, especially how diverse their sound is from song to song. Plus they're great live, their stages are always interesting, and I love how much crowd interaction there is. My wife wants to plan our first post-Covid trip to Japan around seeing them there. I've watched a lot of "behind the scenes" stuff about Babymetal and the idol school the girls graduated from, Sakura Gakuin, and my affection for Su and Moa has grown from that. As far as recommendations go, I just found a group or, more probably, a side project from Miyako, one of the guitarists from Lovebites, and Aya Kamiki, the vocalist from a band called Uroboros (which makes me want to play a Resident Evil game). It's called Sonic Lover Reckless. Their only video and possibly only song is called "Phoenix," and the video was published in 2017. The vocals are good but kind of forgettable; I'm recommending this one because of Miyako's work on a seven-string guitar whose brand I can't figure out. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/ncimppRpytbYpYk.html Otherwise, I'll recommend Unlucky Morpheus. If you're familiar with the Dutch symphonic metal band Epica, I call Unlucky Morpheus the result of Epica and the music from the Castlevania games getting put into a Japanese blender. They're a six piece. As far as I can tell, a lot of their songs are about video games, too. This one is about Final Fantasy VIII and is called "Unending Sorceress." kzfaq.info/get/bejne/hqmmZtZhuZrGqGQ.html

While Babymetal might certainly work as a gateway band for some people, I do want to object to the notion that you are somehow meant to "progress" from Babymetal to other "proper" metal bands. Babymetal _is_ proper metal, and having listened to all kinds of metal for 40-odd years, I would easily list them among the greats. This week, I've had Babymetal on heavy rotation with Gojira, Meshuggah, White Zombie, System of a Down and Maximum the Hormone, and they completely hold their own. Not in that they sound the same, but precisely because they dare to do their own thing. Their music is insanely varied and well written, with a crazy ratio of great tracks in their catalogue. Su can sing better than almost anyone, but repeatedly gets dismissed as a metal front person simply because she's a young Japanese girl, and not a big and bearded Swede, or whatever. I will admit that it took even me a while to get accustomed to them, but these days I find the pervasive prejudice targeted at this band so easy to spot and very hard to tolerate. I've really grown to hate all the posturing and gatekeeping that is so prevalent in metal today. All I want is great music, and I wouldn't care if it was sung but the damned smurfs. Oops. That ended up being a bit of an angry rant. Don't take it too personally though. It wasn't really aimed at you. I just got triggered by the whole "gateway" thing, I guess :-) Next song: *Tales of the Destinies*

I understand you completely Andreas, and I agree. Gateway bands are by no means inferior as such. Actually, oftentimes they become THE gateway band because they're so damn good :) I have the same thing for Green Day for example. Gateway into many different, harsher bands 'cause it got me accustomed to walls of guitars, but they're still among my all time favorites 🤘🏻

This is metal project of singer Akane Liv, she has polish-japanese-korean roots and she was born in Sweden, interesting mix. :) I want to suggest you two songs, live versions from one concert The End Of The Beggining. First song is "And Forever More", very beautiful, and second is "Fountain Of My Pleasure". Can you react this band? Please.

Usually there are 3 songs that Babymetal uses to close concerts: 1 of them is "Road of Resistance", the other 2 are "Ijime Dame Zettai", and "The One"! Lately they added "Arkadia" in the mix. There is a channel called Babymetal Reactor Resource that provides videos of live performances that usually get blocked, and puts a transparent logo on top of it so it's safe to use against copyright! I recommand "Tales of the destines" live since you like songs where you can't tell what happens next (this one needs to be with the logo, or it will be insta-blocked) :D Another one is "Rondo of Nightmare" live at budokan. Make sure to use the 7 minute long one, that has an epic intro where you can see the actual talent of these phenomenal musicists. They mix J-Pop and metal, so you might find a lot of songs that go more towards the metal side, and a lot of other songs that go towards the pop side. But they try to include any genre they can think and mix it! You can find Metal mixed with dubsteb, ska, rap, latin american vibes, indian vibes, dance, european folk, and so on :D Any new song you listen from them, you don't know what to expect, and I think that's beautiful!!
