Typically, on 'Lie In Our Graves', the band kicks back into the chorus, full bore, after the elongated jam solo. Dave gave the hard hand wave 'were done here' signal to make sure they got the vibe Dave was feeling to end right there. Love how blown away by Carter you are, too. I play piano and guitar, grew up learning Dave songs, but never tried drums. Love Dave’s idiosyncratic tunes and range of material, their whole band’s musicianship with each other and authenticity. But dang: Carter. He can be the mama hen, making all these things happen right on time out of nowhere the way a mother of a big family does, like magic, and then switch into something flamboyant without ever being showy (somehow) and then go full Rambo kicking ass and taking names, with the powerful fluttering grace of Muhammad Ali - all while grinning and chomping gum like he’s having the best day of his life. Seems like a master painter who uses drumsticks instead of paint brushes. This was so fun to watch you enjoy!

When I saw the title of the video, YES! I HAVE TO WATCH IT! Organic, colorful, fluid, jaw dropping, and I could just keep going on, are the first few things, in my sad attempt, that I could try to explain with. I saw the band live a few years ago, and they are just masters at what they can do, and improve at the drop of a dime, and still make it sound uniquely different every single time with other artists or bands, and then create a piece of art. SRV topped jimi technically as a player but I do agree. But of course Derek surpassed him and its what everyone wanted and I am sure Duane would be proud. I've seen him live well over a dozen times. Yeah, thankfully I didn't die before I heard this. (That's what often panics me about awesome performances like this - I just want to live forever and not miss anything that might be coming up.) And it's fortunate that the audio is reasonably good (along with great camera work) despite the crowd roaring their approval through most of it. You knew even before he broke out the Coricidin bottle that this was going to be something very special. He manages to milk every bit of the beauty and emotion out of this break that would be possible. Part of it's in the genes, of course, but then he just sticks to the melodic-line script and doesn't launch off into anything goofy like a lot of unpleasant chromatic licks just for the sake of trying to be different and edgy. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. But you gotta have the chops in addition - I realize this is SO beautiful, but I _don't_ have the finesse to be able to "put words to paper" as it were, like he does. The great ones have a way of making a guitar cry like a violin (see: the Clapton Crossroads breaks, e.g.), and you hear a lot of that here. I LOVE this tune - even without the break - one of my favorite DMB songs. But this DT break just sends it through the stratosphere. If you're not touched by this, then I just don't know what to do to help you.

Ive noticed anytime they have a guest play the solo on this song, they take it to a new level, would be nice if you did a reaction video to this same song with Louis Cato @ Madison Square Garden

Really enjoyed this video. Lie in Our Graves is my all time favorite DMB song and I was there in Jacksonville that night. That was the tour debut for the song. When those first few notes hit, I went nuts and then as it went on, I knew we were experiencing something special. Initially, I was a little sad that they ended the song where they did as that last reprise (excuse my lack of musical knowledge but I think that's what it's called) is so so good. But now, looking back, I think it ended right where it should have. It was surprisingly enjoyable to see you experience it for the first time. So cool to see you appreciate it and take time to stop and just savor and enjoy it rather than try to emulate it. Keep up the good work!

Oh man, your friend put you on an impossible mission to dissect this masterpiece. Derek Trucks, seems to redefine what a guitar was meant to do.

Thanks Dude. You brought tears to my eyes. In all honesty, that's why I am a DMB fan, and I have been from the start. When I listen to music, I know how good it is by whether or not I am holding back tears. I gotta go see Trucks now. I was talking about it with a girl I went to high school with a couple of weeks ago.

Whooo 🥳 dude, I’m in love with everyone of your videos! Your courses helped me out so much! Bridged the gap between what I‘ve always wanted to do vs. what I was able of! Love it! Funny that I can remember not understanding a single thing from the first time I watched a video from you and now, with your courses, getting all the concepts your talking about! Cheers!

@@Guitargate Thank you first and foremost! Your courses are what I have always been looking for! Your passion and understanding is what attracted me. Your absolutely human nature and joy in your art is what bound me. Without you, I would not be able to do what I can today. I'm sorry if this is all too sentimental but I am truly grateful. I know that there are many difficulties, especially in terms of copyright, but never get demotivated, because the value that you create is immeasurable!

Hearing this song acoustic is what made me learn to play guitar somewhat. It was basically the epitome of what you always say about if you hear something weird then figure out why. I’m still not good at guitar but Dave’s weird playing was enough to make me want to know more

Dude, you have to look up Tedeschi Trucks Band, here in Jacksonville, at Daily's Place on 06/24/22. Find any of the songs they dud to kick off the new tour but ESPECIALLY PASAQUAN!!! Please, for your own sake, even if you don't do a video...GO WATCH THIS MASTERPIECE. He played it on his 335. I was there and I actually got a bit choked up. It was like being at a live Allman Bros. show in 1971.

I had the same level of excitement you had when I heard this last week. I am mediately sent it to a bunch of friends. Also some other great collaborations where Dave and the band lets the artist just shine in the moment. Victor Wooten on #41 and Bella fleck on lie in our graves, dreaming tree.

at 13:05 Everyone is still in,.. PLAYING... and then after it drops out you can LITERALLY watch Dave himself back away... and even the horn player, and then the sax player walk into view..... ALL getting a VIEW - to watch what was happening on stage with them. THEY ALL, DID.......EXACTLY WHAT YOU DID!!!!! #respect!

I love spur of the moment musical choices like that, it shows how well a band communicates with each other. No egos, just talented people playing a song together. Like good actors making tasteful unscripted changes or a fluid improv comedy troupe. Great stuff.
