They are like the female Black Keys. I don’t know which sister is more badass, they both are 100% awesome. That slide guitar, I don’t think people realize how good she is with it.

The girls are the real deal, brilliant vocally and instrumentally. The key is the sheer unbridled enjoyment they get from the music and playing together, whether it is with the boys on drums and bass, just by themselves or with the increasing number of artists they have played with (i.e. Elvis Costello, Joe Bonamassa, Keith Urban) and whether it is in front of an audience, in the studio or simply recording in a hotel room. One thing is for sure, the Blues couldn't be in better hands.

@@kellywalker8407 Subtle also, check out their version of "Sound of Silence", just the two of them in a hotel room close up to the camera. The level of harmony only siblings can produce. Also, if you haven't already done so, check out their early career with their sister in The Lovell Sisters to see their evolution from blue grass before they discovered the blues.

Love those girls! I've seen them twice, in small venues, and they tear the house down! You nailed it on the 4 parts, Megan is harmony vocals and her slide is harmony strings for Rebecca's singing/playing. They are serious, reverent, students of music and have great appreciation for the roots! Those living room sessions you mentioned, where they usually do covers, are so much fun! Check out their cover of "Helplessly Hoping" for some vocal harmonies that make the hair on the back of your neck stand up! Here's a fun romp of the classic tune, "Ophelia" by The Band! kzfaq.info/get/bejne/gtWgis9mrN62c6c.html

'Unapologetically Badass' hits the nail on the head, great description. They both have so much spirit and heart in the music, but in very different ways, so it gives a perfect complement. Also one of the few bands where I really really like when they do cover versions - because they utterly make them their own while still holding to the original. Again, unapologetically badass.

Hey Michael....so glad you picked these gals to put up. They are the bomb. The songs do sound simple, but they are so incredibly "in-tune" with each other. Couldn't agree more with how the rhythm section playing less is more......they full complement the girls in every way - unobtrusive, yet so vital in driving the songs.

Nice job, brother! Never heard of this band before. I was about to say exactly that... the guitars and vocals bring the swing but the drums and bass are bringing the filth! Gotta say again that the livestream with Marty last night was great! I’m loving that show and can’t wait to see who’s next. I’m excited for you to dig into to some Bela Fleck and the Flecktones...it’s some genre bending stuff - “blu-bop”, bluegrass, jazz, funk, space jam, tastiness! It will grow on you.

Their latest album, Self Made Man (which is also the title track), also went to number 1 right away on the Blues chart. Their fancy stuff is found in the rhythms and those harmony fills. It’s important to remember that they were introduced to violin at the age of 3 (Rebecca) and 5 (Megan). They literally have been musicians their entire lives.

The older sister, Jessica, left the "Lovell Sisters" band and went off to university, I think, and to live a normal life. The two younger sisters reformed as Larkin Poe. Jerry Douglas released "Southern Filibuster: A Tribute to Tut Taylor" in 2010. It was a collaborative album featuring several dobro and lap steel players. Megan Lovell played the lead on track 13, Reso Fandango. Jerry's album notes stated that she was a young girl. She was completely rehearsed and prepared to record the track. She laid it down in one take. If Jerry Douglas thinks that you're good, that's good enough for me.

I love Larkin Poe. Beautiful women and wonderful music. Now, I find it really great that Rebecca can sing the words, "Beach Blond Bottle Blues" without getting her tongue twisted. Now, this is true. I play guitar as a hobby and used to play with friends. We did Stormy Monday. I would sing. For the line, "The eagle flies on Friday", i would always, not on purpose, sing, "The eagle fries on Fly day." No kidding. So, I give Rebecca kudos for being able to sing, "Beach Blond Bottle Blues' without getting her tongue twisted.
